Edit! Very nice arm chair with one issue.
Okay we are idiots, we were trying to use the pull loops to secure the arm rests, there are pockets you slide it into. Just fyi in case anyone else has made this mistake also. See initial review lol. This chair is expensive, even at half off but I figured we would buy once and hopefully it'll last a long time. The chairs sit really well but the arm rests just have a loop to go on the metal pole part which will just slide down and make the arm rest useless. We solved the issue with a couple rubber bands to keep it from sliding down. They could fix this by making the part you slide on the pole to a pouch not a loop so it won't slide.
Nice and lite and compact, but not as great as I was hoping
Bought these chairs for multi day river trips. I like how they are full sized chairs, with arm rests, and cup holders (large enough to fit my yeti tumbler!), yet they pack down and are wonderfully compact to put on my raft. A couple of things I wish were different about these chairs: 1. Larger/ deeper seat area as another reviewer mentioned. 2. Shoulder strap for carrying. 3. Quicker drying material. 4. Wish it worked better for putting in the river/ on the river bank the chair does not feel stable and torques and twists on any surface that's not level and firm. Maybe I'm asking too much of my chairs but at this price point, I do expect more.
Seriously Awesome!
Love this chair! I wanted something high quality that wasn't the typical "camp chair" you see everyone using. This chair is comfy and bigger than you think it would be. My favorite backpacking chair is the Helinox Chair Zero, and the Big Six armchair is much taller and bigger seating area than that chair. The cup holders actually work and the construction of the chair is super high quality. I appreciate the smaller pack size that makes it easier to load into my car or on my roof basket. It's kind of a lot to manage with the take down of the frame, but not the worst thing in the world. Definitely recommend when you can find one in stock!
Excellent camp chair
This is a really comfortable chair that packs up surprisingly small. It's perfect for car camping and it gets almost weekly use at our kid's sporting events. One note - the folks who are complaining about the arms moving are not setting up the arms correctly (I did this the first time too and is easy to do). There is a pull tab that helps you create leverage to fit the arm frame into a designated slot in the fabric (easy to miss). The people who are mentioning that the arms are sliding around are actually putting the arm frame through the pull tab, and not into the slot in the fabric. If assembled correctly, the arms are rock solid and not an issue.
Awesome chair with a couple nitpicks
It's a supremely comfortable chair and easier to set up that one would first believe when unpacking it. It's great having two cup holders but wish one was slightly larger to accommodate different items. I really only have two real complaints: - Maybe it's because I'm a larger fellow but this chair springs up and tries to tip forward whenever I stand up. It's a lively one, which combined with the weight means it can easily go flying if you aren't careful on a breezy day. - The cost. This really does feel like a premium chair when you consider the weight and packability, but the price will bring tears to the eyes of many an outdoor/car-camping enthusiast
Great for older hips
I have a few other BA chairs and they are all solid, well made pieces of gear. However, on my last river trip I realized that the Helinox was too low to the ground and would compress my hips when sitting. I would stand up after relaxing and be more sore than before I sat down. Luckily a friend had an extra Big Six armchair he let me use. I was able to get out of it easier with my bad hips and it didn't fold my hips in while sitting. It's super easy to set up and packs up relatively small. It's definitely a chair for car camping or rafting where weight and size aren't big issues. When I got home I ordered on of my own.
If its in the budget, go for it!
I have been a "Gear Guy" for as long as I can remember. I have sat in and owned most of the competition, and the Big Agnes chairs are amazingly built! The other brands use thin tubing and plastic based "hubs" for the legs to attach. I have seen these hubs break and the legs bend, but never a fail with the Big Agnes designs. When the Big Six Armchair went on sale, I couldn't say no! The ONLY complaint I have is the small foot on the legs. I think this will sink in sand at camp while rafting (I'm not a small person)? I know you can purchase add-on feet, but I'll get in some more seat time before spending the money.
Vantastic
PLEASE USE THIS REVIEW NOT MY INITAL ONE I was looking for a comfortable chair that didn't dictate how we packed the rest of our VW Westfalia. I finally found it. I'll admit I did hesitate at first because of the price. But think cost VS value. I've wasted money on so many cheaper chairs that I won't use because they are either too bulky or just uncomfortable. The Big Agnes checks all the boxes. I'm 6'2" and 250+ lbs and this chair is very comfortable. .
Awesome chair
One photo they put the arms on wrong. The tab loop on the fabric arm piece is to put your finger in or hold while you slide the metal arm piece into the fabric sleeve. They put the tab loop on the metal arm piece - oops! We have the Helinox Sunset chairs but narrower and not comfy after a while because your arms rest on you or they hang down. Not so relaxing! Love the chair arms! Yes a bit bigger packing it but car use it is great!
Great chair
We travel in a VW Westfalia. I'm 6'2" 250lbs +. I was looking for a chair that was comfortable yet didn't dictate how I packed the rest of the van. Not field tested yet but a o far I'm pleased. One issue (other than price) is that I wish the arm rests would have a receiving pocket for the support that would prevent the rests from constantly sliding down. This doesn't seem to be well thought out.
