I have an old pair 7.5 that has lasted me for 3 yrs, I’ve tried different tread styles but didn’t get the grip I like on my old pair until I searched REI and found the shoes, fits perfectly to my feet, cups the heels, hugs the instep(depends on how snug you tie your laces) toe box has enough wiggle room for downhill decent, the tread grips more rocks better then the newer treads I see out there, light enough to scramble areas, and my legs don’t tire fast as my other mid high Merrells. Thank you REI

ZERO traction.

I have owned a pair of merrell sirens before. 1. Although I didn’t care for this feature. They are not waterproof. My foot was completely soaked after stepping in a puddle. 2. They have no traction. I did an easy local hike.. I had to cross a creek a few times.. normally I cross swiftly no problem, but with these I fell a couple of times due to traction and slipped one too many times. Completely unsafe. The soles almost felt slick witch was puzzling. With my old sirens I didn’t have any problems. I put them to the test on all terrains including ice. With my old sirens I felt secure and trusted the traction of the shoe. These shoes felt like fútbol cleats rather than hiking shoes. One thing I must say.. the structure of the shoe itself was great. I have wide feet and they fit like a glove. I didn’t have issues with having to break them in and I could say these are appealing to the eye but that’s about it.

Lack Durability

Sadly, I am disappointed in these shoes. They remain very comfortable, however, after one single wear, the “coating” at the toe area is clearly not much more than a label and it is scratched and worn. For the price and the intended use, I expect more durability.

AWESOME Everyday Wear Shoe!!

I got these shoes two years ago. I’ve worn them off and on to run errands, teach pre-k, do lots of walking while on vacation to Virginia and California, and to do yard work. I have very high arches and plantar fasciitis in my right foot. I choose to wear an additional insert to provide more comfort during longer wear. These are by far the best darn shoes I’ve had that conform to my feet and are light enough to wear all day. I’m serious when I say they fit my foot. It took about two weeks of 2-3 hour wear to achieve this. Well worth the money too. But, I have to agree with another reviewer below, the 4 out of 5 stars is because the toe area is wearing thin. It’s beginning to show the mesh pattern that’s underneath. I think the toe area should be reinforced with what appears to be on the sides/instep of the shoes.

Easy comfort

I bought these before Christmas not sure how I would use them but loved the color and flex. I now use them from walking the dog to simple hikes to more rugged terrain. Very versatile

bit of an issue otherwise a fantastic shoe

I absolutely love this shoe. Purchased to replace the old Siren 2s that I have worn out. But, a problem and reason for 4 stars only: the gray toe cap on this shoe got dinged up during my first wear, in the car on my way to bowling (did not wear them bowling!). I have no idea HOW and I'm not sure the black showing through is under the gray or just a scuff I can't get out. While it's not that noticeable if you're not looking, I can see the dings, on a brand new shoe. :(

Good overall but mesh sides wore out quickly

I've had these shoes for just over a year, and they've been good overall. Tread on the bottom is not terribly worn, but the mesh sides are coming apart, and in fact started coming apart within only a few months of purchasing the shoes. Breathable simple design and pretty lightweight.

Best shoe ever for my bad feet!

One of the best brand of shoes I have ever bought. Have had several over the years. I have really bad feet and have had about 8 surgeries on the right foot. These shoes have helped me be able to keep walking all these years even though the styles have changed they still work for me. I bought 2 pair recently.

Only lasted 6 months

I bought this hiking shoe a year ago and the sole started to come off within 6 months. By 1 year I had to glue it on both shoes on both sides. I am a moderate hiker and was expecting better quality from Merrel. I am going to try another style one more time in hopes it lives up to the Merrel name.

Coming back for more

I bought a pair of Merrill Siren shoes for a trip we were taking to Amsterdam to Budapest about 3 years ago. I have bought so many pairs of hiking shoes over the last 40 years. My husband had a pair and read liked them so I decided to give them a try. There was no break in time. They were comfortable immediately. I wore them every day for 4 weeks. Loved them!! They are now my favorite dog walking shoes. After a lot of wear, they still love like new. I was considering buying a pair of SAS (my usual choice) and came back for another pair of Merrill...afterall..I can get 2 pairs for the price of one pair of SAS. I still love SAS, but decided on 2 new pairs of Merrill. I have found comfort....why mess with it?
