Not the best fit
Immediately upon trying these on, I knew they were not going to work for me. I ordered a Medium, which was the right size for my waist, but for me these are long above and below the crotch/inseam, so they are further up to my waist than I prefer (and i like my shorts a bit higher on my hips to avoid hot spots from packs, belts, etc. Having to wear them up a bit higher would be okay, except i have glutes, so the shorts end up tighter around my butt. Also, the material is a bit stiffer than I’d like. I do think overall this is how Columbia bottoms fit on me, so if this brand does work for you, then they’d be a good pair to have in rotation, especially if your on the water. 5’6” 145 lb for reference.
Shorts that say put
I was worried when I first tried these on, because the seam up the front seemed pretty awkward. However, I just wore these on a sweaty hike and they stay put the whole time - no tugging or twisting required! The pockets were also deep enough to keep my cell phone in the whole time.
Runs large
These are a fun pair of shorts I’m looking forward to hike in. I bought them as a cheaper version to the Patagonia barely baggies because I’ve never managed to make those work for my body. I wouldn’t say these fit too much better but the price is right. Only feedback is that I’m normally a medium in all other athletic type shorts and these run big on me. The drawstring is helpful to chinch them so they’re tight enough
Stuck in the 90s
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The material on these feels like my grandfathers swimshorts from the 90s-stiff and scratchy. These shorts aren't made for people who are curvy, as when I put them on they were tight across my butt, but there was extra fabric right above that that just bunched up. Walking made it tighter. I'm usually a 6-8 and I sized up to a Medium in these to be safe, but even that wasn't enough. I've had this problem with almost every pair of bottoms from Columbia that I've tried in the last 10 years with 1 exception and that exception keeps giving me hope, which I now know is false hope. I think I'm done buying pants from here until they stop advertising nylon as stretchy and start only purchasing pants with a poly-spandex blend.
Super fit!
Awesome shorts! So comfortable and stylish. I bought a second pair a week after the first one.
In love with these shorts!!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have several pairs of these shorts for hiking, swimming and every day use. I am a soccer coach and typically spend a lot of time on the field. Most coaching shorts for women don't have pockets so I love these shorts because they do. They are also great for working out with my players and professional enough for games days or office work days. I would highly recommend these shorts even if you just wanted something for grocery shopping or lounging around the house!
LOVE these shorts!
Quick dry fabric, two good-sized front mesh pockets and a smaller zippered rear pocket, a wide elasticized drawstring waistband, a comfortable fit, and a colorful print. What more could I ask? The shorts are comfortable, practical and really pretty. I do think the sizing runs just a bit big; I am 5’2” 117 lbs and would not normally wear an XS/size 2 but the shorts were on sale and that was the only size left so I took a chance. I am so glad I did!
What shape woman tested this pattern?
Saw these shorts and fell in love with the fun tropical print! 5’4, 115lb., 49 y.o. very active outdoor enthusiast. Stick-figure build, but saggy skin around mid-section from past pregnancy I choose my clothing sizes so they fit me very loosely and allow for plenty of motion. That being said, I bought a Medium. Pros: Color, length (5”), pockets, rugged quick-dry fabric Cons: 1. The waist is the bunched-up material elastic waist design. Although waist fits appropriately, it is very rough and leaves marks all around my waist from the fabric! Very uncomfortable. 2. The rear end seems to be tailored after a 12 year-old pre-pubescent girl! I do not have much of a butt, however, when I bend in these shorts, they don’t have any space allowance and give me a plumber’s crack! Take a lesson from Kuhl- They make shorts for the female body.
Super versatile
I bought these on a whim as a cheaper alternative to Patagonia Baggies shorts and they did not disappoint. I immediately took them on a camping trip where I used them for hiking, canoeing, swimming, and more. While they aren't necessarily super flattering, I found them very comfortable, they dried quickly, and still looked brand new after several days of tough wear. I am 5'8 and 160lbs with muscular legs and a butt and the medium fit me perfectly.
5’1” 155 pounds
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got these shorts in Medium 5 in length and I like them very much. I’m 5’1” and about 155 pounds with wider hips. When I first put them on they were a little tight around the hips, but after sitting in them for about 15-20 minutes they stretched out and fit perfectly. The fabric is comfortable and breathable. They don’t ride up while walking and the color is bright (got the Waterfall Deepwater). I ordered a second pair since I liked them so much.
