Patagonia  Baggies 5" Shorts - Women's

I am 5’4”, 120 lbs. and the size small in the Patagonia shorts is the perfect size. I love the smolder blue color, the 5” length and the double stitching. There is nothing not to like!

These must have been designed by a man or someone with minimal hips and butt. The waistband lacks any sort of stretch you need to pull these babies up. I am a true medium- could not get these above by butt to save my life. Tried going to a size large and I looked like Patrick Star. If you’re petite and not curvy, I’m sure these shorts are lovely, but if you are not a 180 degree angle, these shorts are also probably not for you.

I bought these without trying them on in store, so really this one is on me. I am a size 14 with large hips, so I bought the recommended large, but the elastic in the waist does not stretch enough to get over my hips. They are so cute, but I will be returning and getting a different style.

Super cute and love the idea - but they do run small.

I am about a size 6 and got a medium. They hit at my belly button and I can wear all kinds of tops. They are good material for both in water and hiking.

These are absolutely horrifyingly huge and ugly. There is a lot of misshapen extra fabric just below the waist. I needed them for vacation and wore them so I can't send them back. But the sizing is way off here. Medium fits like a large, large. Such an odd choice by Patagonia whose stuff runs notoriously small. I'll probably end up gifting them to someone. Also, FWIW, these are made of swimsuit material.

When you order online vs. buying in store, you don’t get to FEEL what you are buying. With these Baggies, you might be buying the crinkly stiff ones you already know or buying softer ones that have a little more ease (hips) in the same size. It seems like a random thing, but you could end up with either. This review is for the 5” style, in black, size small. I ended up with a crinkly/stiff pair… no real surprises. IYKYK. But! Since I had just purchased a pair dark blue ones online (RIGHT HERE) the week before, I was a bit disappointed when these black ones were notably stiffer and narrower in the hips. I thought there must be a color by color difference in fabric composition that I just overlooked when ordering. Apparently not. As a long time buyer of Baggies, I think the fit and feel of the new “softer” ones is great- a subtle evolution you might appreciate if you’ve ever wished your shorts could be a little less stiff to put on/sit down in without sizing up to almost clownishly too baggy shorts in the next size. I returned this pair in person. I took a quick spin around the store and ran into what appeared to be the exact black shorts I had just returned… Same size, same product number, same color. But, they were the softer ones! I bought them. The person up front processed both my return and my new purchase 15 minutes later. He was confused, and surely thought I was nuts. We did a little forensic analysis and indeed, both versions of these shorts are randomly sprinkled together on the rack. If you are still reading this very long review, the moral of my story is that you might consider checking these shorts out in person before buying.

These are not my first pair of baggies -- baggies are comfortable, durable, easy to wear, and, in this case, a lovely lavender. Baggies are perfect for summer lounging, hiking, and even sleeping. I have to hold myself back from buying more!
