this is a great chair for my long legs. i got the helinox inflatable pillow and the cup holder…it’s a pricey combo but definitely worth it for all the use i’m getting out of it. i have a short torso and long legs and find that most camp chairs put my hips into a degree of hip flexion that’s uncomfortable for more than 10-15 minutes if my legs are already tired out from a day of walking (especially with a lot of elevation change). this chair gives me the option to place the pillow perfectly for my head and neck so i can lean back comfortably and relax as needed. for me it’s well worth the weight!
This is a perfect chair for my weight, height and hip width (approx 150 and 5'8". Easy to get in and out of, the Helinox, is extremely easy to set up and take down. The sturdy mesh panels in seat are great, although I have gotten several bum mosquito bites because it. Packs up easily into the Helinox bag. Stuff a towel or extra jacket into the Helinox bag and you have a wonderful pillow to look at the stars. there is a wide strap with velcro to hold the pilllow in place. Working on a laptop I don't miss having armrests or cup holder. If you are wider in the hips (lucky you) this may not be the chair for you.
The seat is taller than the seat of the REI camp dreamer (so easier to get up out of) and the back is taller than the back of the camp dreamer (so easier to lean head against back). The seat provides more back support as well. The adjustable flap over the headrest is very useful, I find if i stick something soft like the REI Trailmade mummy bag pillow inside the flap, it perfectly cushions the neck and head. This also seems slightly easier to assemble than the camp dreamer. Only question is why they didn't make a lighter version, it seems that they could have used much lighter fabric and smaller diameter poles. This is not quite as comfortable or roomy as the REI camp boss chair, but it does offer head support, which the camp boss doesn't.
Picked up this chair and took all of a minute to realize this would not be comfortable for me. Pressure points on the legs at the seats edge and it squeezed my hips together. The headrest is hard even stuffing the bag in the loop. I guess you could put a pillow or towel in there as it appears to be designed for it. But I'm not looking for that kinda of chair and that only remedies the least issue I had with it. I also felt it was reclined a bit too much which made the lower seat section awkward as you need to slouch a bit to lay back. I will say build and material is impressive, stitching is solid, chair is solid, easy to get out out of, just not a comfy fit for me. I accept it's personal and not on Helinox. My search continues. My advice, sit before you commit.
Really well built, high seat makes it easy to get out of for us old farts. love it.
Recently, I lost the Sunset chair that I had purchased years ago. I really liked that chair, so I decided to buy a new one. To my surprise, unlike the previous chair, the new one doesn’t include a shoulder strap. Over the years, I had used the strap constantly. While I can arrange my own strap, considering the high price of this chair, a shoulder strap should be included.
These are great chairs. Once you have put them together a couple of times, it becomes easy. I originally purchased two Savannah style chairs that have higher backs. I later purchased two Sunset style because the Savannah’s back was a little too high. The Sunsets are perfect. The only thing lacking is a cup holder which is included on the Savannah.
Compact to carry, simple to set up, extremely comfortable. We purchased 2 of these chairs to carry in our Travato camper van where storage space is at a premium. We couldn’t be happier and plan on picking up a Helinox table to complete our “patio furniture.”
Completely satisfied with this chair. Extremely well designed and comfortable. Not cheap, but worth the extra expense. Packs down small too. Assembly is slightly fiddly for those with an aversion to such things.
We have finally upgraded all our camping chairs for the Helinox Sunset chair. Our fifth child is finally old enough to sit in one(7yo). We love these chairs because their super quick to assemble(the kids can do it although we parents have to pull the last corner on to the pole), comfortable, stable and compact and light enough to take anywhere. Just be careful around fires that the floating embers do accidentally burn a hole into the canvas. Its happened to us but just a small hole.
