The wides are nice and roomy! My toes are feeling back to normal after getting crunched for too long in the Rincons. I've been streaking mostly easy runs with hills, washes, and tempo thrown in all feeling great. I weighed an average of 190 lbs. for the first 100 miles and the picture shows how little wear there is due to the very well placed rubber. The shoes feel so incredibly light despite being so wide and protective - it feels I'm wearing weightless moon boots. The only thing I can suggest for improvement is in breath-ability, perhaps some type of mesh similar to the Rincons or just make the Rincons wider and with better better rubber placement.
Got these for long and recovery runs and the midsole is marshmallowy goodness that definitely fits the bill. Feels similarly plush to the Speedgoat 3s and definitely more compliant than the Kinvaras I usually run in. The upper is fine, but breathability is lacking, so they might not be coming on long runs until the weather cools down. The fit is my big gripe. I wear an 11 in several other brands, and also in Speedgoats, but had to size down to 10.5 for these. The midfoot/forefoot fit it still pretty sloppy for me even after sizing down, and I get a lot of lateral slide in the forefoot. 5 stars for the midsole, 3 for the upper, 2 for the last.
This review is for the WIDE version after more than 500 of road and trail miles. Skip to second paragraph if you don’t want to read this following rant. I was completely sold when I first put on the original Clifton 1. Those shoes were so awesome I wish I bought more and kept a new pair just for race day. The Clifton 2 was neither great or bad. I’ll just put it that way. The Clifton 3 came around and it felt fun to run again. I logged in more than 800 miles in those shoes before I used them as my walk around shoes. And then came the Clifton 4. Hoka made the Clifton 4 narrower. They were the first Hoka that gave me both black big and pinky toes. I got so disappointed with the Clifton 4 and when I read that the Clifton 5 had the same narrow feel I stopped using the Clifton as my primary go to daily trainer. Finally, Hoka listened to their loyal customers and released the wide version for the Clifton 6. The wide version is basically how the Clifton used to be. It feels great to do long runs in the Clifton again. They’re so comfortable that I use them on non-technical trails and even used them in a couple of ultra races. The build quality has also improved with the current version. There’s no tear at all on the upper after more than 500 miles. The treads are mostly gone at this point, but it’s expected for the terrains I put them through. I’ll be using them for the Ridgecrest 50k next weekend and I don’t see myself retiring them for another few hundred more miles.
Been waiting for this shoe for thirty years! No shin splints, no tired calves, no tired feet. Finally put a smile back on my face while running. Thank you!
I've had issues with my lower back hurting after a 3+ mile run for years. I've worn New Balance and Nike's for the last few years and while they were comfortable they just didn't seem to have enough cushion. These are my first pair of Hoka's and after 5 runs I have to say they are incredible. Unbelievable cushion.....my back no longer hurts after running!
I have been wearing Assics Gel Cumulus shoes for a long time, but found the soles of my feet feeling hot and tired if I ran more than 5 miles. I switched to the Hoka Clifton and my feet feel great. They are more cushiony, but that doesn't make them feel unstable.
I am 6'2, and a "solid athletic 265lbs" - kinda - with slight osteoarthritis in the knees and a horrible past with Bilateral plantar fascitis. I use super feet and always order 15 (2e) for shoes. I've been walking 4 miles a day (9 small hills up and down) everyday since May 4th. THESE SHOES ARE AWESOME!!! You will feel like you are walking on a trampoline the first day...and first day only. My calves were nice and sore the next morning but not since. Tells me that you are gettin' a little extra workout : ) Since my first pair I've bought 3 pairs (2 to alternate my walking everyday, and 2 for work - I teach standing up all day - even remote learning lol) because they are on sale for $90...SO WORTH IT!!!
This is my second pair and I think they are very comfortable. Eliminated my foot and shin pain. However, in about 1.5 months of running MAYBE 10 miles a week the sole of my new pair is almost completely worn down. Did they start making the soles out of butter? I would expect that for this price this show would last 3-5 months of moderate running.
I got the wide and I'm glad because they are a little snug. Usually wides are a little to big on me. Very light shoes, if the strings wasn't so snug across the top of my foot it would be perfect. Lots of cushion almost feels like ground is giving when you step. I can feel the cushion more in the heel vs toe area. Nice shoe for the sale price. Don't know that I would pay full price for this shoe.
REI shipped used shoes. Rocks and dirt on the soles
