Honestly my favorite pair of pants. I have honestly worn these for almost 100 days this year since I bought them in March (doing conservation work/camping). I have been through dense chaparral, yucca territory, rivers, canyons, and these have held up. They are comfortable and stretch very well, making them great for stretching in the morning or lounging. I stand by their durability and availability in a 28 inch inseam. Lastly, the dry quickly! Cons : Could use more ventilation, maybe more ventilation holes? not a huge issue I do not find myself using the left thigh pocket, would make it more casual.
These pants are magical. I bought two pairs for a trip to Iceland and tested them out in the Rocky Mountain National Park. Hiked all day in the fog and snow in 30 F. temps. I was warm. I was dry. The pants were dry. I was comfortable. Pants certainly appear to be water resistant. As snow flakes melted on me, the water beaded up and was brushed aside. And though there were times I was sweating, I remained dry. I purchased the 36/30 and it fit me well. Highly recommended.
These pants proved their worth to me on a week long backpacking trip through the Cloud Peak Wilderness in Wyoming. We spent significant time off-trail, bushwhacking around high alpine lakes and waterfalls. These pants were abused, and they don't even show a hint of it after a trip through the washer. The quick drying, stretch material made them ideal for the kind of technical hiking and climbing we engaged in, and I could not be happier with their performance. Money well spent. As an aside - I believe they run a little small. I'm 6'3" and 190 LBs. The 34x34's were a good fit, but a tad on the slim side. If you're looking for a more relaxed fit, I'd go up a size in the waist.
These are simply great! I've worn them a lot since I purchased them. They started life with me logging many miles on hikes in the Cascade Mountains.Since I've returned home they've canoeing with me on multiple trips. (The cuffs roll up and snap in place, keeping them dry during shallow water launches.) I love the stretchy fabric. It makes them very comfortable to move about while wearing. Only one minor negative...I wore them in the workshop today and oh boy did they ever attract and hold the sawdust. Trying to rub off the sawdust just built up more static charge binding the dust even tighter.
I really like these pants. Wore them almost every for a week in Colorado and they kept my legs comfortable from below freezing with 20MPH+ wind gusts to mid-70s in the sun. Only two little things keep them from being perfect. The thigh pocket is really useful, but it sits to close to my knee. Great for holding my wallet while in the rental car, but sucks when hiking as stuff just bangs against my knee. The other thing is wrinkling up after washing. I line dry all my synthetic clothing, and this dried looking like it had been folded up in a ball for a week. They came out with wear, but your friends will think you're a slob until they do.
Very comfortable pants, but I really wish quality control was better for such a pricey pair of pants. The stitching on one side is not as nice as the other side.
I purchased the Zion stretch version in 2015 and that pair has withstood five years of fourteeners, hikes in intense heat, in pouring rain, snow storms, slides across rocks, and falls into prickly shrubs. I love the stretchy aspect of the material. The hiking pants are excellent. The reasons why I give the pants only four stars are thus. First, the Zion is baggy, which I dislike. Second, the Zion comes with a waist strap that I have to tug about every twenty minutes because it loosens (since last year I wear a belt). Third, I never use the cargo pocket. Fourth, it's slightly heavier than the Brion. I prefer the Brion to the Zion.
I wore these every day for four months while trekking the 1300 mile Via Francigena from Rome to Canterbury, and they still look like new. I liked them so much, I bought two more pairs in different colors, and as well as the first pair held up, I may never need another pair of pants. They are lightweight, windproof, and quick drying. I usually found a washer every week or so and/or handwashed them at the end of the day if they got muddy, and they always dried by morning. The cinch type waist was really nice as I lost a couple of inches from my waistline, and they still fit at the end of the hike. I bought 33/34, and the fit seems pretty true to size.
I really loved the fit and look of these. I had my 1st pair for about 4 months and noticed the stitching starting to come apart in various areas. It quickly got worse so I decided to return for another pair hoping this was just a fluke. After about the same amount of time the stitching on the 2nd pair started doing the same thing. I mainly just wore these a couple times a week and just at work standing in front a computer. No reason why the stitching should be coming apart so quickly. Thankfully I bought these at REI and no problem with returning. For the price, I certainly expect much better quality. Would have been my fav pair of pants by far if the quality was better.
Spent six days walking 70 miles of backcountry in these. They were genuinely the most functional, highest quality equipment I had; Super soft (not just "for a synthetic"), stretchy, light, breathable (enough), dry super fast, durable on granite, and flexible for different tasks/temps. Three things I liked: 1) Leg pocket opens horizontally and vertically, for quick map access on-trail or securing small things you need sitting/kneeling in camp (lighter, knife, light, etc). 2) Rolls into 3/4 shorts at the perfect height to keep cool and still protect from bush/sun -- way better/more comfy than zip-off shorts. 3) Integrated mini-belt cinch works for losing weight on the trail, gaining it while traveling, etc. FYI: Waist fit is a tiny bit more honest than usual (as in 32 is a 32, not "32 wink-cough-33").
