I love how this stove packs down. The pot is perfect size, you can boil enough water for your freeze dried breakfast and a cup of coffee at the same time. The lid will second as a coffee cup or a bowl. The non-stick makes clean up so easy. The pot is big enough to hold a 1/2 canister of fuel to maximize the amount of space in your bag. I didn't time it, but I don't think it was longer than 5 minutes to get a full pot boiling.
This is one of the best cook systems I've ever owned. It's also one of the only cook systems that has basically every component you need. Most cook systems these days come with either just a boiling pot and the stove and maybe some other random components, but this literally includes a shield for reducing energy loss and even a piezo lighter for lighting it up! The quality of everything seems really solid as well. I for see this lasting at least 10 years or more!
I LOVE THIS PRODUCT! I have used it on multiple over night trips and even on job sites for lunch. packs easy I've had no problem lighting it at temps in the low 20s F the windshield has worked in high wind situations . cleans up easy boils water fast !
Boiled water very quickly, everything and fuel packed down nicely, and the handles are all sturdy so far!
Bought this as a second stove (already have a Jetboil Flash that is a great stove) specifically for desert camping in Utah since it was recommended in some sources I read to perform better in windy and sandy environments. It performed great in 20mph+ winds with gusts over 30mph and blowing sand. The wind shield definitely seemed to help as compared to the Jetboil with no windshield on previous trips in the mountains. We had also bought an additional larger wind shield, but did not need it. The Optimus did not bring water to boil quite as fast as the Jetboil Flash but that was expected since the heat exchanger on the base of the pot is smaller than that on the Jetboil Flash who's claim to fame is rapid boil times specifically. In any event the boil was still rapid. The only complaint was the included handheld striker with flint to ignite the flame sometimes took several attempt to ignite the flame, even in calmer conditions, compared to the igniter on the base of the Jetboil flash that almost always ignites first try, but it eventually always worked and I assume a lighter could be used on either if needed...
Perfect size for solo camping or a +1. Windguard surprisingly effective and packs easily. Used for both car camping and overnight backpacking trips.
