For boots: Add one half size to your street shoe size. You should be able to slip one finger behind your heel when you are standing up with the boot unlaced and your toes touching the front. If the boot is too short, your toes will get smashed walking downhill. Too long and your heel will slide up and down and give you blisters.

Absolutely incredible shoes! I’ve put over 300 miles on crazy rocky, muddy, trails and climbed tons of boulder fields in them. Also, countless miles on concrete when I worked at the prison and filled in on night shift. I’m finally retiring my current pair and ordering a new one this spring. Seriously, these shoes are exceptional. I’ve never had sore feet at all and they just don’t quit. I hope LA Sportiva never stops making these.
My family and I all wore these shoes for a 45 mile hike through the Buckskin Gulch Slot Canyon in and out of water for the entire trip. They were the best! They offered great support and they also dried rather quickly too. The sole of the shoe is strong enough to protect while hiking on the rocks yet light enough too feel like your not dragging extra weight when wet. Loved them so much I’m getting another pair.
I really enjoyed these shoes. I’m rather picky about the shoes I wear on the trail, so that is a pretty big compliment. I have a relatively high arch, and they provided a lot of support. I didn’t realize it, but my husband has been wearing these shoes (different color) for several years, and he loves them. His feet are really flat, so the shoes can accommodate a pretty wide variety of foot shapes. The shoes didn’t require much adjustment with the laces to get them snug and feeling just right. They required no break in period. I put them on, went out, and 5 miles later my feet felt great. They didn’t come untied one time. The upper has a nice amount of light support to reinforce it and hopefully provide some durability. The toe cap was sturdy. One thing that I really liked was that they stayed positioned on my feet over a variety of different terrains such as off camber trails and very rocky trails. There is nothing worse than a shoe twisting on my foot when I’m on uneven terrain. The shoes provided enough cushion to protect my feet from rocks, but not too much to feel squishy and unstable. The sole has nice lugs to provide traction in the mud, but they aren’t too aggressive to be noticeable on dirt trails. They have a good amount of ‘stick’ on wet rocks, which allowed me to step with a fair amount of confidence. If I had one complaint, it was that they made my feet a little hot. Otherwise, great shoe for trail running, hiking, and outdoor adventures.
I needed shoes for my first backpacking trip. I was afraid my feet would ache because I did not get a chance to break them in. Needless to say they were so comfortable. Hiked 11 miles, 6 of which were uphill. I had no issues with blisters or cramping of my feet. I’m definitely happy with the support and cushion of these shoes.
I love these hiking shoes! I bought them for hiking in Oregon along the coast, mountains, and the Gorge. They had great grip on rocks and wood, walking along the Gorge around a ton of waterfalls. The other part I loved about these shoes was fit. My feet are more narrow and they were snug in these shoes which helped with grip on the different terrains I hiked. They fit true to size, I am normally 8.5 in tennis shoes and I wore these shoes in 8.5 with regular and light weight hiking socks. My high arches also felt supported. Colors are fun too, definitely recommend these shoes for trail hiking, walking or running.
While I've had these for the past year, I've loved these for trail running! But recently I've noticed that I kick myself and it makes me sad that the fabric isn't protected by the shoe laces. I took off a star because now I'm just barely out of warranty to return to REI and now I need to go through La Sportiva for the peeling on the back of my heel. I love the way these fit my small feet. I wear a 6.5 in womens and these have run in the high elevation in Flagstaff,AZ and now a little bit in Utah. They have by far the most superior tread and superior reinforced toe of any trail running shoe I've ever had. I have tried out multiple brands but this is my favorite
I wanted a lightweight shoe for hiking and trail running. I wore these on a 6 mile trail that included some smooth rocks, gravel, soft forest and loose dirt downhill sections. These were incredibly comfortable and grippy, and I felt agile. My husband had on another brand of trail running shoe and he slipped on the loose rock and dirt. I agree with other reviewers that this shoe runs about 1/2 size small. I wear a 6 1/2 street shoe, 7 running shoe, and I bought a 7 1/2 in this shoe. I have a somewhat narrow, low volume foot and I overpronate a bit. I love that this shoe is form fitting and supportive without being constricting, and there is no excess bulk.
I’m writing this review after one year of wearing these. They are comfortable, I’ll give them that much, but the negatives are significant and the reason for only two stars. The main issue is that the forefoot is a nice breathable mesh material, which sounds great except that every particle of trail dust gets sifted through the mesh and at the end of a hike I have toes crusted in dirt and a “puddle” of dirt under my socks. I have never, in years and years of weekly hiking, had this problem with any other shoe or boot. And now, after just one year of weekly wear, there is a crack developing in the sole of the shoe.
Very happy with these trail running shoes! They are quite light, but offer solid traction and a wide, supportive base to run on. I had no problem making my way through small puddles, over roots and rocks, to pavement and gravel, then back to dirt. I have felt secure in my footing on all my runs in these shoes. They do run a tad small--I ordered my true size (9.5) and they fit just fine, but as my feet swelled while running, they got a little snug. I would recommend ordering a half size up if possible. However, I'm still pleased with these shoes and they still perform well even though they are a little more "form fitting" than I typically wear my running shoes. A great buy!
I hiked the AT sobo late last year. I wore these from pine grove furnace in Southern PA to Springer in GA. While they're rough around the edges rn, they're still not falling apart and still have tread left. Also, unlike other shoes, these did not cause consistent rubs on the backs of my heels (id still get them occasionally despite my injinjis and darn toughs but cest la vie) HOWEVER the soles are not very cushy. Within a few days I started getting stabby pains. I tried putting new super feet soles in (the pain relief kind). This got me to southern VA. Then I hiked in crocs for a few days before i replaced the soles again. My feet felt bruised and I would get short stabbing pains. Still got me to the end though and I had very little post recovery to do. And as far as I know, no long term damage. Oh also they run at least a half size small.
