Happy with my wahoo kikr core
I happy that I bought this wahoo kikr core. I used this with zwift apps. I used this with my 10 speed road bike. Easy to set up, read the manual before starting it.
super happy with a product!
My unit came 3 days after the order and finally I got to try this trainer. Works so well and every installation went smooth. Tried 30min with Zwift and this trainer is awesome! much work than the actual ride to outside. Love this unit and glad I picked one from REI. Even though I paid $35 for the shipping but it was worth it. This unit is quite heavy so you might as want to have it shipped to your house. Not much noise and again, I am so glad that I picked the right trainer!
another faulty unit
I bought this trainer a month or two ago and finally got a chance to set it up. Assembly isn't too hard, and it paired with my iPad with no problem. However, it will not output speed or power. I tried with both the Wahoo app and the Zwift app. Both apps say they are connected, but I don't get any speed or power readings. I tried all the troubleshooting -- turned off devices, repaired, unplugged Kickr -- but nothing works. I did some searching on the internet, and it seems that this is a very common problem. No excuse for this after spending $900. Now I have to either hassle with removing the cassette, disassembling it, and shipping it back, or returning it to REI. NOT HAPPY.
Faulty as well!
Bought the Kickr Core, installed everything, put the bike on it and ... no report of speed/power, ESD issue, I had to return the product. After looking on the web for the issue I had, I'm actually not surprised anymore, I'm a bit disappointed with Wahoo especially after a very good experience with their Bike Computer (Wahoo Elemnt Bolt). I did some research before buying it but completely missed the ESD issue and thought they fixed the other issues as explained in the video from the CEO of Wahoo. For an indoor bike trainer, they should expect people using the trainer in environment dry/with carpets so subject to ESD ... REI support: 5 stars by the way.
Tons of manufacturing issues
I bought the Core two months ago and it’s an amazing training tool. Trainerroad and Zwift are a blast to use with its erg mode. Unfortunately I’ve had terrible luck with the units and am now on my 3rd Core. Wahoo has been great in replacing the defective units, just a quick video of the issue and they sent me a new unit ASAP. But this 3rd unit is still not working properly and I am now wishing I would have forked out the extra money and bought a Tacx Neo I’d suggested waiting until Wahoo sorts out their manufacturing issues before purchasing a Kickr
excellent product from an excellent company
I bought a Core 18 months ago from REI. The trainer is awesome! Worth every penny and I use the heck out of it. Even more impressive is Wahoo as a company. Recently, I started noticing some some abnormalities in the power output. I chalked it up to an old unit that I use the heck out of in a hot AZ garage. In my mind I had depreciated it down. I emailed wahoo just to see if it was something I could fix. After a few days of troubleshooting, wahoo agreed to replace it despite it being slightly out of warranty. Id buy this, and recommend it in a heartbeat. Great product. Even better company.
Buyer Beware!
Returning, again. 2nd Kickr Core in 2 1/2 months also just broke! Grrr! First one last almost two months. Second one last two weeks. What broke? Like other reviewers here and a Zwift forum, the hardware stops communicating power and speed data. When in Zwift, you're connected but just sit on the side of the road. Very sad! In addition . . . Wahoo instructs you to do a "spindown" to calibrate every 2 weeks which is bothersome but not a dealbreaker. Also, I found the Bluetooth connection to be super finicky - only one device nearby or it won't connect at all. I love the trainer -- when it works. But it's simply unreliable. Perhaps their 2018 model has had a bad batch. Fool me twice, but not a 3rd time. I'm done and looking for a product NOT made by Wahoo. Thank you for making returns easy, REI!
No power, no speed data
Only lasted one ride in Zwift before it stopped communicating power and speed data, therefore no resistance. It also does not communicate speed or power with the Wahoo utilities app, therefore this appears to be a hardware issue. This is a common problem with this unit as I have found online and unfortunately, I will have to send this back to Wahoo. Even when I receive my new unit, I have very little faith that the Kickr Core will last longer than one season.
Two units had probs. I'm done!
My first Core started to make a sweeking sound after 18 miles, at first under load then by 30 miles even while coasting in a spin down. It also had a burning smell. Wahoo wasn't any help, saying the burning smell was probably the stickers. Really? Putting stickers on a device you know will burn them is not believable. REI was awesome and exchanged the first Core for one I hoped would work. That hope was dashed. Out of the box the second Core had a low pitched clicking sound, the rythem of which matched the clicking heard on many online videos. This is a known problem since last fall, and defective units are apparently still being shipped. I really wanted this product to work, but I'm done, especially at $900 bucks.
Excellent Trainer at Price Point
I've been looking at indoor trainers for a while initially considering the Kickr SNAP given the price. After thinking about it and hearing other people's opinions about wheel-on trainers and the need to keep so many variables consistent (eg tire pressure), I decided it would be easiest to go with a direct drive. I've ridden ~20 Zwift rides on it and love it. ERG mode is super smooth and it has great road feel. I did a lot of reading on DCRainmaker's website and think this is the best budget-friendly option (helps that it was on sale for 20% off - but I was stalking the website for months for it).
