Not horrible. Not great.

I bought these because I hike along the Washington coast a lot, and was trying to keep my feet dry in my hiking shoes. Though they mostly work, the constant stepping motion (over 5 min submerged) gradually allows for some dampness to penetrate, which is where the problem begins. Your foot gets damp, (not wet, but definitely moist) either from water or sweat, and it is nearly impossible for them to dry like a wool sock could. You will need to remove yor shoes and socks to allow your feet to dry. It will also take a ridiculous amount of time to dry these socks. I would not recommend drying them by a fire, because from what I can tell, the waterproof material won't hold up well next to heat, though I have not tried it. I used these once. Though they mostly worked they are as thick as a lightweight neoprene booty, and made my shoes tight. I could see wearing them to ford a river if you're worried about blisters, but for general hiking I would pass. Hiking the coast with these was ok, but the drying time required once they eventually dampen inside, is a very long time. If your doing a one day hike around the shore in the middle of winter and not worried about weight, then these may fit the bill, but for general use, you're better off with wool socks. When I bought these there were no reviews for them. Had I known, I would have passed.

Not even close to waterproof

Bought these to use for kayaking. First use out of the box my feet were wet. To answer your next question, no I did not submerge my legs above the top of the sock. Ankle deep water and my feet were wet and cold. I would not recommend purchasing these socks.

Waterproof but tight

Put ‘em on and stood in a bucket of water. Feet were dry, totally. wore them for a long day on the bike. No sweat. But, big but, the collar is tight, alomost, rsteicts, circulation. Takes a bit of work and patience to pull them on and several threads popped when I was taking them off. I don’t understand why the mfr couldn’t make the top end just a wee bit looser.

Waterproof and comfortable!

The Shower Pass waterproof socks are truly great. Not only are the waterproof they are comfortable. First, I ran them under a water hose in the back yard, no seepage at all. Next was a five-mile hike with friends. They fit like normal socks, didn’t slide down into my boots or create any problems what so ever. after a day of hiking in them my feet remained comfortable. As a kayaker, I'd say these fit better than neoprene socks are more comfortable and have a wide range of uses.

Will keep feet dry

Just returned from AHS volunteer vacation in Dolly Sods, or Dolly Soggy. You will encounter wet muddy bogs on most area trails, 6-8 hour days my boots were wet, I wore a liner sock, and the Showers Pass sock, the extra thickness felt like a heavy winter boot sock. Maybe warm at 80 deg. but not much. I will say when washing them, you must do the outside, then the inside, and they take a bit of time to dry.

Love these for wet days on the bike

I ride my bike year round and in all weather. On my commuter, I just wear waterproof boots with flat pedals, but if I want to be clipped in, I was never able to find a good way to keep my feet dry until these socks. They're fantastic for riding since they breathe quite well, but are really truly waterproof. I've ridden with waterproof shoe covers, but shoe covers have to have an opening in the bottom for cleats, so my feet never really stayed dry. With these, I don't have to worry. I've raced cyclocross in these and they've worked flawlessly. I can spend 3+ hours walking, riding, running, falling etc. around a wet, muddy course/park (in vented bike shoes), and when I'm finally done racing, I can peel these socks off to find dry, clean feet! The cuffs are high and snug, so I haven't had any issues with water splashing up or running down into them either. They're not as stretchy as "regular" socks, and take a little maneuvering to get on (like compression socks) but if you fold the top over, slip your foot in, and then roll the top up, they're really quite easy to get on/off. For the comfort they provide, I have to say it's well worth working around the quirks of the materials. I'd highly recommend these socks to anyone.

Hurt my feet

After researching water proof socks and shopping at REI, I purchased these socks. My first test of these socks went .... untested as the forecast did NOT hold true for a rainy Sunday at the INDY 500. The following week I decided to test these socks during a 6 mile out and back hike on a rainy evening. While my feet did stay dry, it didn’t take but mile 2 for the balls of my feet begin to rebel. By the time I reached the 3 mile turn around I was beginning to rethink this hike and these socks. By mile 5 my pace slowed considerably and I began to limp. It says these socks are for hiking/ cycling... etc. however, they just killed my feet. They may be ok for cycling or a kayak but to hike.... a definite no go.

warm and dry feet

I bought these for the NYC 5 Boro bike ride because of rain. It rained for all 40 Miles. But with these socks my feet stayed warm and dry for the entire 3 hours. The are thicker than normal cycling socks.

Hike in Rivers!

These socks are amazing! I took them to Zion and hiked the Narrows in them. Water temps were extremely cold but these helped not let my feet freeze. I was still able to feel the cold but it helped so much. Wearing hiking socks under added an extra warmth layer. I highly recommend.
