As another reviewer stated, the mudguard folds causing a tear and a hole to form after just a few long runs. Poor design and I will be returning for a different brand. It's happening at the same rate on both left and right show, clearly a design flaw since they fit perfectly. For a $160 shoe this is really unacceptable.
I really love wearing these shoes. I've used them as trail runners and as hiking shoes and they feel great on my feet. They fit great, are super comfortable, and honestly pretty stylish. Unfortunately they suffer from two fatal flaws: First (as many have already mentioned in these reviews) that little spot on the inside of each foot gets pinched, and torn open, rendering the waterproofing useless. On one of mine, that open tear got caught on a root, further ripping into the shoe and basically ending their life after only 120 miles or so. Second: I do a fair amount of alpine/rock scrambling. These soles look beefy, but several chunks of rubber were missing after only one hike through a boulder field.
As the shoe wears in the rubber mud guard creases in such a way that it causes tears in the canvas above it. These holes are not the result of punctures but of faulty materials or fabrication. I returned one pair as faulty after maybe 5 runs, and the same thing started happening on the second pair after about two weeks.
All in all I really wanted to like these shoes, and love the look of them. But the creasing from running in them has caused the 3D printed rubber on the fabric to split on both sides on both shoes.
After only three or four moderate hikes, my shoes started having the same issue that many other reviewers described, i.e. tears at the bottom of both of the sides of each shoe. The prevalence of this issue indicates a serious design/quality flaw. Given the price of these shoes this is absolutely unacceptable. It makes you wonder about the quality of the brand itself.
I wore out 2 pair of Cascadia 12’s, and was very satisfied with them - great fit, durability, traction, and overall performance, and am a confirmed fan of Brooks. Over the years, I have used several other pairs in confidence, and were my favorite ‘go to’ shoes. That said, the new model didn’t measure up. Comfortable to start, on the second time I wore the shoes, the innersole in the right shoe kept slipping/ shifting to the left, irritating the bottom of my foot. I reset the innersole several times, but it wouldn’t stay. After this happening the next three times I wore them, I gave up and returned them. Too bad - they were waterproof, warm, and fit well. Maybe I just got a bad pair, but i’ve Never had a pair of shoes do that.....disappointed.
I had high hopes for these shoes, and like them at first. But after light usage, I have the same problem others have mentioned with the mud guards creasing and causing tears in both shoes. Because of the tears, water now gets into the shoes from the front
Used these shoes for obstacle races such as spartan races and tough mudders and trust me these are not the shoes you want. 1st they never really broken in for me and I was always trying to wear them in. 2nd a weird bubble formed in the tip of the shoe because of the Gortex causing a blister. Overall I was disappointed and would not recommend these shoes to anyone
3d rubber printed materials creases in such a way that the mesh starts to tear at the forefoot. I've returned 2 pairs to REI for the same reason, each shoe lasted about 3 weeks.First set tore on the right foot, second set tore on the left. I've been wearing Brooks for years and this shoe is a disappointment. although they have great fit and traction.
Purchased in April 2019, never subjected to particularly strenuous use. I liked them for their fit and comfort and the goretex. BUT by ~September they were showing a lot of wear and deteriorating fabric on the right outside uppers on the right foot--that's where there is a little dip in the rubber-like top coating. By January 2020 it had become a tear and is now (early Feb) simply a hole. I've never had any set of shoes for any purpose simply fall apart like this so quickly in relatively light use. Really disappointing.
