This was the first pair of trail shoes I have ever purchased. I tried on other brands of trail shoes and they felt heavy and awkward. These felt good - as good as my everyday running shoes - but more substantial. Nice fit and support around the heel and ankle, tongue and ties lay nicely and did not irritate the top of my foot and the footbed offered comfort and stability. Wore these shoes for 6 days while hiking/sightseeing and my feet were happy the whole time. They are also waterproof, which makes them even more perfect! Thanks for making a comfortable hiking shoe for us ladies over 55 with sensitive feet.
I bought these to replace my last pair of Cascadias, which I loved and ran in for two years. The 13s are almost as worn out after two months as my old pair was in two years. Maybe Brooks has fixed their durability problem in the 14, but don’t buy the 13 unless you want to buy new shoes again soon! In the photos, left side is new and right side is old shoe.
Love these trail runners. Had 3 pairs of the Cascadia 12s, now on my first pair of the 13s and I have to say they keep getting better and better. I run trail marathons and ultra marathons, and had these shoes on a backpacking trip on Na Pali coast in Kauai and day hiked the enchantments with these to save weight. For gnarly and technical day hikes and backpacking trips, you'll still need ankle support from hiking boots. But these trail runners are perfect for any range of running - from city pavement on nights after work to rugged alpine trails on the weekends.
I bought these shoes for travel and found them to be extremely comfortable and can be worn in casual situations as well as hiking. Plus they are completely water proof if it rains. Packing light is important and I was able to wear them walking around the streets of Tokyo and then I was able to wear them hiking. This is a great all around shoe that goes beyond trail running.
I bought these because I needed waterproof shoes for a trip. I wore them a few times to workout and they seemed fine. The waterproof feature actually does work - my feet stayed dry in the rain. However - they had very poor traction on wet cobblestones and bricks! I had to walk quite a bit more slowly to make certain to not fall. This was very disappointing. My travel partner had no problems with traction in different shoes, They also were not very comfortable. For short outings they weren’t too bad, but for longer treks, my feet became very painful. I would not recommend these shoes.
So i liked them at first, hiked up to 10 miles at a time. i have had them for a year. love the waterproofing, traction and light weight. however, i have develped a hot spot, not sure what is the deal and had to cut my hiking short last week in sedona. i have good socks. I have not had them long enough for them to break down. Also, they could be a tad cushier. i enjoy running trails but not with these, too flat with no give.
First day wearing I regretted the purchase. This shoe seems to require a break in period that other Brook’s don’t. By the third wear they were more comfortable. Do not like the tread pattern, it attracts rocks that embed. My foot might have changed or this seems to run narrower than other models. Would not buy this model again. Loved the Cascadia GTX 12. Wore through all three pairs.
I am not a trail runner but an avid hiker. I do a large range of hikes but still day hikes and even the hard hikes are only 6 hours at a max and usually on well-groomed trails so I used to just use running shoes but with a trip to Banff in the plans I wanted to get real hiking shoes but the sales associate convinced me to get these trail runners. They are waterproof which is great and they did fine in Banff. I still wish I would have just gotten hiking shoes like I wanted because now I want to do the Camp Muir hike which I can't do with these but they have served me fine. They definitely have good grip and I have hiked in snow and rain in them and they have been great for that. I did one hike that ended up putting me in a thunderstorm and pouring buckets of rain and hail and I did get water inside my shoes for that but that was inevitable in those conditions. I guess I just don't know why you wouldn't go with actual hiking shoes instead. Unless you are actually trail running.
I have had these shoes 4 months and have been using them as a hiking shoe and running shoe while traveling around the world for 4 months. They tore up within the first 6 weeks and have quickly gotten more wear as the weeks wore on. I liked the Gor-Tex feature, as they were great with hiking in streams and whatnot, but they didn’t seem to hold up to what I had expected.
I was not able to adjust the right shoe to prevent it from slipping on my heel so after a few wearings in complete frustration, I returned them. This was disappointing because I have other Brooks shoes which fit perfectly.
