Not what I expected.
I have several assisted opening knives. My favorite is a Kershaw Ken Onion Leek. While I don’t mind the shape of this knife, the blade is really hard to get to the break open point. It’s so stiff that it is nearly impossible to do one handed. Based on the ad from REI I thought I was getting a great sale price until I later decided to look it up on Amazon and found it for the same price. Overall, I’m pretty disappointed. I’d probably return it but due to the blister packaging I had to destroy it to get it open.
I make my living depending on well made knives
What happens when the blade is on task and you slip? Blade point design determines everything -- Including whether you sever one or both flexor tendons or merely draw blood from a superficial wound. If you ask a blade to function under adverse conditions, will it hold up, or will its design specs be limited to opening letters and daintily cleaning pipe bowls? This one has a spine thickness that will hold up with an unprecedented DOUBLE lock blade mechanism(might be overkill?) in which both work and both are easily unlocked simultaneously with the... Same. Motion. No digit yoga. Lastly, when your thumb learns to engage the pin on the spring loaded blade, this folding clip knife is instantly "on." This is a big deal when it matters. And it really only has to matter once for you to appreciate how big a deal this can actually be. Besides, once your digits learn, the click into lock position is immediately gratifying. $60 is fair here. 20 bucks is ridiculous. This is the third progressive REI markdown and I am buying my third copy for personal reserve/ and/ or gifts to discerning compatriots -- because again, this price is utterly ridiculous, and because my original has been put to the real world test and excelled. I'm talking a working knife, with titanium alloy that can be dressed to hair shaving capacity if you know how.
Easy to open
I bought this because my right wrist is not the same as it used to be. Easy to open up.
Don’t give up on the assisted opening
When I first opened it I was frustrated because it was super hard to open. It just needed to be opened and closed several times to loosen it up. Now I can open it with one hand easily. The blade is very sharp, thick and sturdy. It cut through a corrugated box with easy. Four stars because the secondary safety lock doesn’t work. It’s superfluous anyway, but it doesn’t work.
Takes two hands to open
I bought this assisted open knife hoping that I could open it with one hand. It tak s two.
Worse than finding out about Santa. Disappointing
No stars are fair. Perhaps my thumbs are weak (No). Perhaps I was using it incorrectly (assisted opening knife, safety off, in palm of hand, thumb on stud, push; Nope, doing it right). Wouldn't open. If I pull on stud, the spring worked and the tip would slice into your other palm. A dangerous knife.
Gerber Vaule
Good knife. Like the size and weight. Used it on a week long camping adventure.
