Mammut Barryvox has excellent range, so many features

I got this beacon at the start of the winter, and as soon as I pulled it out of the box to start testing it with other beacons it became apparent that this thing has a much longer range than my older beacon, and it seems longer than any of the other ones I've tried. Given that a longer range means fewer minutes locking onto a beacon signal in the event of an avalanche, that alone seems like reason enough to go with the beacon with the best possible range. I am switching from having used both an older Mammut beacon and the PIEPS, and I did find that getting used to the screen signals that direct you through the search took a little practice.

Barryvox won't fail

I used the Pulse for years. When the Barryvox S came out I picked two up and was definitely impressed. The screen and controls are intuitive and easy to use just like the pulse. The beacon performs well and takes the pressure off of me as a searcher. I've yet to experience a problem during a search, even with signal interference it picks up the buried beacon quickly and efficiently. The harness sits comfortably and holds up to the most jarring crashes. I've had my pack and jacket stripped off during a tomahawk but the harness and beacon held on. Highly recommend, especially after the Pieps broken switch fiasco. I trust the Barryvox S with my life.

Great Product

I couldn’t be more impressed with the Mammut Barryvox S! This avalanche beacon is a game-changer for backcountry adventures. The range is incredible, and the search functions are fast and intuitive, even in high-pressure situations. The large screen and clear instructions make it easy to use, and the durable design gives me confidence it will hold up in harsh conditions. I also appreciate the advanced features like multiple burial detection and Smart Search, which make it feel like a professional-grade tool. If you’re serious about backcountry skiing or snowboarding, the Barryvox S is an essential investment. Highly recommend!

Even Better Than the Pulse

For the past three years, I used Barryvox Pulse. This year I upgraded to the Barryvox S. Here's what I've found so far: Simple to use out of the box or if you want to take advantage of the advanced menu functions, adjusting options is now a breeze. The button and menu set-up is only a little bit different but much more intuitive and easy to move through. During multiple burial scenarios, the S locks more quickly on the second/third burials signals after marking the previous one. The larger screen on the new S allows for helpful information icons and prompts to guide users through the search process. While the Barryvox Pulse is still a top-of-the-line beacon, if you're in the market for a new beacon, the “S” is a strong choice.

The standard.

The Barryvox S is the standard in avy beacons. I've used them for years as gear provided by backcountry ops I've skied with, and finally pulled the trigger on my own unit. The just work. In every training session I've participated in, they outperform the beacons other guests are using. They're super intuitive for beginners, who usually need only a brief introduction to operate them very effectively. They're light and quite comfortable to wear once you figure out your gear arrangement and where you need to have it in relation to your radios and other backcountry electronics. You really can't go wrong with these.

The best!

I've been reading reviews and this version keeps getting billed as 'for professionals' which almost kept me from buying it. However, don't believe everything you read on the internet! I bought 2. One that lives in my locker at work (I'm an instructor at a ski resort) and another that lives in my mammut airbag so I always have device when i venture into backcountry. I'm coming from an older DSP Pieps (circa 2009...) and there was a slight learning curve but after some practice it is better than what I was using by a long shot! The big display is great and the neat animation that tells you how you should be searching is a neat little addition. Do yourself a favor and get one!

User friendly, compact, and big search bandwidth

Super easy to use, didn't even need to look at the user manual it's that intuitive to use right out of the box. This beacon literally walks you through group check mode and a course as well as fine search with visual cues and beacon pitch changes. Top that off with one of (if not) the largest searching bandwidth in the market (~70m). Plenty of additional features on this beacon for the more advanced recreationalists (i.e. mutiburial flagging ) that I'm looking forward to running practice scenarios with. I will be recommending my colleagues and family upgrade to this beacon, very happy with this purchase.

When every second counts, this is the one to have.

I’ve been very impressed by this company’s products — and this avalanche beacon is perhaps the finest made. It doesn’t matter which end of the unit you’re on (rescuer or rescuee), this is the one you want to have. Speaking as an avalanche rescue leader with decades of experience, if we could only convince people to have this gear — no matter why they’re in the mountains — we could save more lives. In practical rescue simulations, we could usually find our volunteer “buried skier” in an average 6-8 minutes, well within the 15-minute survivability time. I recommend this unit highly. If you feel you don’t need it, ask yourself how lucky you feel: hope is not much of a strategy…

This is the second Barryvox I have purchased as I replaced my wife's beacon last year. After borrowing her beacon late last year, I found the Barryvox intuitive to use, comfortable to wear, and easy to get out while going through rescue practice. I appreciate the battery indicator being easy to read and battery life is great. The advanced features like prompting for group check when you turn on the Barryvox S, as well as automatically switching to send in case of burial during search, gives added peace of mind as we recreate in the snow. I would recommend to anyone spending any time in avy terrain.

Dependable & High Quality

This beacon is the top of the line, robust, and packs loads of features to help make recoveries easier - especially in a multiple burrial situation. The Mammut Barryvox S sips on the battery lending me peace of mind that it has plenty of juice and is ready to work in a moments' notice. I've had a few of these I've shared with friends new to b/c skiing and it's fairly intuitive for new users and includes instructions for optimal search patterns while in search mode depending on your distance to the burried beacon. I do highly recommend this product to everyone engaged in backcountry winter activities.
