Rated 1 out of 5 by from 2 defective boxes I have purchased 2 of these within about a week. The first was new in box in stock at the store. Once it was attached, I did a walk around to ensure all attachments were tight and noticed a large 5-6 inch crack on the right rear side of the box. I immediately returned it with no problems. I order another one. This time it had no cracks after being installed on the roof. However that evening at supper time while showing it to family my son noticed a crack on the right front this time just about the front lock/hinge. The staff at REI is great. I had no problem returning.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Durability Questionable I used this cargo box for one trip. I loved the design though my only travel complaint was wind noise, I think caused by an abrupt lower portion of the leading edge.... irritating, but it was not a deal breaker. By the way, I traveled several hours in pouring rain and the gear was completely dry. My issue was that when I opened it after returning home it cracked at a forward hinge joint. When opening the box, there is a lot of flex and that flex is transmitted to the hinge mounts, a definite weak point. Thule needs to redesign these hinges or shore them up for strength. This is the second post on this site referencing cracks and it surprises me that Thule didn't do a better job testing or they would have fixed this obvious flaw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stylish and Functional I purchased this at an REI store to save on the shipping right at closing. A sales associate helped me install it even after they were technically closed which was really cool. Installation was straight forward and it helped that the mounts has a torque indicator that "clicks" when it's grabbed on to your cross bars completely. The black glossy look is really nice. I was concerned that the gloss would eventually get all scratched up compared to a matte finish but if it ever does get to that point, I'll just buy a can of Plastidip and spray the glossy top to Matte and it will look brand new. It's very roomy inside and the locking mechanism of this new model compared to the older Force is much better. I can easily tell if all the locks are engaged before turning the key. I'm using this with the Thule Aeroblade Edge and works perfect for it. I'll be getting the Thule lock to key all the locks together. This is on top of a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk and it is the perfect size for it. It obviously adds noise but it's not a massive difference but I don't plan to keep it on all the time as it will diminish my gas mileage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sexiest roof box ever This box matches my black Mazda 3 hatchback like a dream! I'm now prepared for road trips with my dog where all our stuff can stay in the box and we can sleep in the back. It's insanely easy to use, super roomy (I know I can fit one crash pad in there, maybe two, in addition to plenty of other stuff), and so sleek. The wind noise and fuel economy changes aren't bad, considering how useful this bad boy is going to be. Get one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well Designed but Fragile Bought this prior to a trip to NC in oreder to transport more than my SUV would comfortably hold. Beautiful design easy to mount and use. Decreased mileage by about 2 mpg (8%). However after 2000 miles and three weeks, when I removed the box for storage, I found it had a crack or split through the top material along one of the seams. REI great about exchanging, will hope this one is a little more durable

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked Great! Bought this to add storage to mid-sized SUV while accommodating new (large) dog inside. We packed our travel needs for a week into two N Face duffels (lge) and two day-hiker back packs that went into the roof top box. We had heat and rain over nearly 2,000 mi and speed to 85mph. It worked great and locked securely.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to install and good looking This box is great. Super easy to install, looks good, is pretty light weight, and has lots of interior space. We've already used it once since we got it a week ago. Took a few tries to change the locks out to the universal ones (you need to first turn the lock 45 degrees, then insert the universal change key.) We put the box on top of Thule square bars - it's a great set up.

Is it waterproof?

Asked by: Lasre
Thule's cargo boxes are highly water-resistant but are not waterproof. As said in the post above, if you expect heavy rain and/or are carrying moisture-sensitive items in the cargo box, best to use additional protection to ensure your cargo stays dry.

Will this fit on a 2016 Honda CR-V with factory crossbars, without interfering with the rear hatch? I have tried the Yakima Skybox 16 and Thule Force L at REI, and both are about an inch too long and prevent the tailgate from opening completely.

Asked by: edog22
This box has the same rear hatch clearance (47.5 inches) as the Force L box. This box will more than likely impact your rear hatch. If possible we recommend moving your factory crossbars to a more forward position on your roof.

I have a 2010 Toyota 4Runner. The fit guide says it will fit my truck as long as I install thule Aero Blade Edge 7503. Can you confirm that's true. I'd also like to use the roof box for our 2017 Volvo XC90 in the future. Thanks A

Asked by: Atripp
This box can be used with a variety of crossbars and your vehicle is compatible with any type of crossbar from Thule, so you are welcome to purchase whatever bar you would like, including the Aeroblade Edge. The box itself does not have any compatibility requirements, so it is compatible with your vehicle.

This box is compatible with your vehicle's crossbars, however, you will need to measure your vehicle's roof to determine hatch clearance. You can find instructions for measuring your car and determining hatch clearance on Thule's website.
