Makes my Hyundai Tucson a true adventure vehicle!

I mounted the size Large cargo box on my 2023 Hyundai Hybrid Tucson and it has been such a delight. It looks sleek and blends well with the car’s design. I live in Colorado and the roof top box is a lifestyle choice. Kidding, but not really. The installation was one of the highlights, which I am thankful for because my garage is short and I have to mount and unmount it for each use. I am also able to do it by myself, which is incredible for a rooftop carrier The PowerClick system, and the dual-side opening is super convenient. I have two kids and being able to open it from either side to grab something for them is such a bonus. The large is big enough for me to pack the car and the roof box for a family of four to go camping and not have to worry about strategic packing. I look forward to using this paired with the go pack duffles for longer road trips. I recently took a weekend trip and packed my three year olds "toddler mattress" in the carrier. I am so impressed it fit and so happy that I didn't have to figure out how to puzzle it into the car with all our other items. The only con is It’s a bit bulky to store, but that is every rooftop box, so no knock on the motion specifically. Highly recommend, I'm really impressed with all the small improvements made to the standard cargo box.

Anazing!

I came back from my first camping trip using a Thule Motion 3 Large. It adds so much space capacity, it's amazing. I was able to stuff pretty much everything inside, leaving only my coolers inside. The height capacity is also higher that I thought. One thing to note for first timer is that you have to lock the box to remove the key. It's a safety feature that makes sense but then you have to take your car keys out, even if you have a keyless system. I took 1 star off because the Thule sign is crooked, as well as the packaging left some pretty nasty glue residue that is really hard to take off.

Great, but watch out for flimsy keys!

Beware the keys! I stupidly left a key in the lock while putting this on top of my car by myself, and it got bent and then broke off in the lock. I wish they had made the keys of sturdier metal. It's 100% my fault, but definitely could happen to anyone. It's super easy to attach to your car. I did it by myself, though it would definitely be easier with a second person or if you're less tall and/or more concerned about scratching things up. You just toss it up there, insert the grabber bits through the bottom of it, which slide forward and back to find your crossbars and twist the knobs. Took all of 5 minutes to put on the car, maybe less. Definitely adds some wind noise atop my 2024 Tesla Model Y (sorry about El*n), but otherwise is a really good fit. Doesn't overhang the front much, trunk can open the whole way without obstruction. There are key holes on both sides, which is good since it opens from both sides. It's a little clunky to open but not too bad. It's honestly relatively light when empty, I can pick it up by myself. The main problem is just that it's really large. If you pick it up from the store... the box is HUUUUUUGE. Definitely will not fit inside any trunk except maybe the largest SUV. It stuck out the back of the pickup truck that I used. So... fair warning. Once out of the box, it *did* barely fit inside my model Y with all the seats down and the front passenger seat moved all the way forward, but don't plan on having anyone else in the car with you. It comes with 4 straps for the interior so your stuff doesn't slide around... definitely use those or it'll be a rattling disaster up there.

Titan grey is darker than you think

Bought the motion 3 size L titan grey to match my 2023 Honda hrv dark grey with wingbar edge bars and it couldn't have been a better fit size wise and color wise. Very pleased with the size and overall look on my HRV. The xl probably woulda fit but I have zero hang over the windshield with the Large and my entire quiver of skis fits in the large so why add the extra drag on my gas mileage if I dont have to. 4th box ive had and this one is definitely the nicest. Love the add on floor liner, light and 1 key setup with the bars. Install of bars and box took a little over an hour and did it alone. Very straight forward start to finish. Would only be happier if it was snowing!

Great Product!

The Thule Motion 3L is an excellent rooftop cargo box that delivers on both form and function. Its easy installation makes it a hassle-free addition to any road trip setup, even for first-time users (able to install by myself). The sleek, modern design not only looks great but also complements a wide range of vehicle styles and it fit our Subaru Outback perfectly! Most impressively, it remains quiet while driving, minimizing wind noise and allowing for a more comfortable ride. Overall, the Motion 3L stands out as a premium, user-friendly solution for anyone in need of extra storage space.

Oooooh shiney - Product differs from advertorial.

Vehicle: 2019 Subaru Outback 3.6RRRRRRRRR TLDR: Initial review knocked 1 star for minor personal expectations. Oooooh its shiney.... Which we all know Piano Black will stay + visible scratches galore. This is replacing a near-mint-at-the-time $40 to us Yakima BlackTop Pro 16s cargo pod from ~13 years ago. . (78” x 34” x 16”) - Latch hardware failing, not skeleton. The Motion 3 was easy to install with two people glancing at non-complicated instructions while utilizing a tape measurer to confirm it was 'squared up' and not looking diagonal going down the road. With it slid all the way back there's plenty of room for cargo hatch to go all the way up. The front nose of the pod sits right above the front of the moonroof, which never gets used anyways. Our retired Yakima would overhang between the windshield and moonroof. (Same buffer for cargo hatch. Mounting tracks were more stringent) 82" garage opening. - 2" buffer eyeballed from a teenage Minion. Said Minion didn't yell stop. =P Initial dislikes / bummers / fuzzy end of lollipop: Product's pictured advertorial has white undercoat on lid, this one is black. Nothing found in verbiage on REI or THULE's website specifically specified white / black, but I was sold on the white interior lid and have seen Motion 3's in the wild with white undercoated lids... (Insert sad face here) Advertised and pictured LED light inside lid is apparently an optional feature too for an extra $56 (11.23.2025) No thanks. Instructions say to keep it under 80 MPH. No such warnings with the Yakima we had. Lol Initial likes: Key stays with cargo pod until latched. With the Yakima the key could be removed at any time. - Simple RED indicator the lid is not securely closed. - Easy click click click mechanism with mounting points are tight enough. (Yakima was a few trial and errors to get correct level of effort to mount onto OEM crossbars using their 'Lobster' style claws. - It's quiet during the initial 50-55mph jaunt home with windows down. Due to the Yakima Blacktop being more 'round' in that design, unknown change in miles per smiles on road trips. Waiting on the optional interior carpeted 'floor mat' to determine if that was worth the extra Benjamin + shipping.

My latest and best Thule box!

I have had a succession of Thule roof boxes and have enjoyed the improvements that came with each new model. A failed optical sensor caused a commercial garage door to take out my last one and I was only partially sad. It gave me an excuse to sign up for my new Motion 3L. Love the glossy black look on my Audi. Really like the new lock mechanism!

Easy to install and use

I have two of these, one for my Toyota Sienna van and one for my yacht which I had built with a Thule rack. They are super light and can easily be put on the roof with one person if you can manage the bulkiness. Clamping to the Thule rack is also very simple. And the fact you can access from either side is a bonus and we often do with the van.

Perfect size

Excellent in every way… exceeded my expectations. I bought this primarily for winter sports; skiing, snowshoeing, winter camping, etc. The large box easily fits 2 pairs of skis (up to 180’s), 2 pairs of snowshoes, boots and poles, with some room to spare. I mounted it on my 2013 Audi Q5 and it fits perfectly; rear hatch fully opens. Additionally, the locking mechanism works very well; never freezes.

Great features and looks

This roof cargo container is amazing. It's very light and easy to put on and off thanks to it's clever design. The gray color is amazing and looks great on an outback. It does feel a bit flimsy when opening and closing it but I think that's the price you pay for being so light.
