I’m retiring my topo shoes today after close to 400 miles. I’m 61 years old and suffered while hiking from my Morton’s neuroma at around 4 miles in any other shoe I’d tried. This was the first shoe to give me relief allowing me to enjoy multiple hikes in the 15 mile range. I hike the Cascade Mountains in the Three Sisters Wilderness and get into extremely rugged country. I climbed south sister twice through scree and scrambled through the rocky moraines to chambers lakes. I average 9.95 mile hikes with my longest in these shoes at 17 miles. I average 1497’ of gain. I would have given them a 5 star review but for me the shoe didn’t have quite enough cushion for my aging feet.
170 Miles into these shoes in two months and I love them. The best all around shoe I have ever worn. My toe problems, that were being made worse with all my other shoes, are a non issue with these wide toe box gems. They have an ample toe box and yet my feet are held securely in place for the steep downhills without having to overtighten the laces. Great traction on muddy and loose trails while comfortable for the mile or two I have to travel on the road to get to the foothills. The tread is holding up well as are the uppers. Treads are just sticky enough on the rocks, too. Now I want a pair of Hydroventures for the winter and spring.
Bought it the day before running AC100. Great traction, true to size, good toe box, decent cushioning, and rockplate for the technical trails as well as asphalt. Not the softest ride, but sufficient comfortable if trained with minimally shoes. Worked well. No hot spot, or blister - same pair for 100 miles, drained and dried well after running thru water. Fit well around ankles, no rocks or sand in my shoes even without gaiters.
Bought these back in April for some backpacking treks, they outperformed my expectations. No blisters on a 30 miler, and and was able to scale rocky terrain expertly and confidently. Only issue was with the insole coming unglued and shifting around in the shoe during the 30 miler(both feet). Issue was fixed with some tent seam sealer adhesive on the trail, but most likely a temporary fix until the adhesive wears off (more permanent adhesive necessary). Other than that, perform well and would recommend this product to anyone with wide feet like me who is looking for lightweight, rugged trail runners.
Great fit, great feel, great traction, great weight. This thru-hiker and backpacker has tried them all. Terraventure is the one I reach for every time now. Comfortable like a bedroom slipper. The outer sole is one of the best I've tried - grippy and reliable. How did they make a sole like that which is grippy and protective yet flexible. This company really knows what we want. Great job!
I don't often write reviews but these shoes are worthy. I'm primarily using them for travel rather than trail running, and they have been superb. I have wider feet and the toe box is very comfy. The rock plate in the forefoot also seems to really help when walking on those euro-style cobblestone streets. Just an FYI, I have found that adding the SF Carbon insoles improved the support of the shoe over the stock insoles and don't compromise the overall volume. Awesome shoe. I think I will buy the waterproof ones for Winter/Spring. Well done Topo.
I have had these shoes for about 5 weeks and wear them daily. Although I cannot comment on their durability (only time will tell), I will say they are very comfortable, light, grippy and spacious. They are similar in grip like an approach shoe and stick like glue on rocks. A have a flat foot and need the width and wanted something that would not limit my foot. This has answered.
Uppers fell completely apart in less than 200 miles of hiking, both with this Topo model and a Topo road running model I bought at the same time. My local REI store refused to take the shoes back and treated me like I was trying to scam them which I most certainly am not. So much for their return policy. Anyone who hikes in trail running shoes should know that unlike running use, 200 miles is not a lot of miles for hiking. I have got 10 times as many miles out of the uppers of every other running she I have hiked in for 35 years. Not that it is a good idea to put this many miles on the mid sole either way, even with hiking, but just to illustrate how bad the upper construction is, and how clueless REI is for rejecting the return due to the millage.
I have wide forefeet and am always on a search for shoes that allow my feet to flex naturally - these are perfect. Fit is right on, extremely comfortable from day 1, perfect amount of flex/cushioning for trail running, hiking, general use. Look good also and I like the relatively low heel to toe drop, promotes a more natural gait. Might want a little more cushioning for extended running on paved surfaces, but they aren't intended for that. Definitely my go-to shoe for off-road and general kicking around.
I like this shoe. It fits me well since i need a full toe box. I fit it a half size larger than my normal shoes. Gave me extra sock room. I wear light wool sock with silk under-sock. I recommend this shoe for all over comfort on relatively flat trail with some hills. Not for steep rock tails. As usual the staff at the shoe section were a big help. I took their recommendation and I really like this shoe. I didn't give it a five because I don't like the laces. had to double knot them to hold.
