Just got back from. My first trip with this tent. Love it. It weighs almost nothing, 1lb 11oz according to my scale with everything, including the stuff sacks. Material is super thing, but seems strong. The design is very easy to setup. The side clips pull out the tent walls and makes it feel quite roomy inside. I find the inside to have plenty of room (5’11” 140) It also compacts down to almost nothing. Slightly bigger than a grapefruit with the pole separate. Fantastic design, so happy with it. Used as part of a sub 7lb base weight pack.
I switched to this tent about 2 weeks into my thru hike on the Appalachian Trail and I couldn’t be happier! It is super lightweight, excellent in storms and I can get me and my pack inside (I am 5’7” and my pack will go at my feet). The ventilation is excellent and I haven’t had any condensation issues at all. I realize the rain fly is super thin and I will have to wait to see how durable it is. I still have about 1800 AT miles to go!
NEMO has found the perfect combination between ultralight and durability, and you can find it all in the Hornet Elite tent. My 1P tent has enough mesh to keep it all ventilated, enough room for me to be fully comfortable inside and my gear well protected on the outside. When you take the poles out, it becomes smaller and lighter than your down sleeping bag. It even handled a huge thunderstorm in a remote Swiss area! One amazing feature would be the side clip that pulls the tent out which makes the inside really roomy for a 1P. Truly a wonderful piece of gear to take with you on any solo overnight adventures!
One of the first things I noticed was the elegant storage option of a pull string to separate the top of the bag from the bottom. This works great when the fly is wet after a rain. The really good news is that the fly doesn't soak up water like a sponge. I bought this tent in preparation for my third Appalachian Trail thru hike next year and recently gave it a good shakedown including heavy weather, heat and quick take downs. Flawless performance by these space age materials. Do note that the tent is small and I felt that when inside after always using 2P tents, but if you want light weight, as I do, it's a reasonable sacrifice. Set up is very easy with the six stake system, make sure to do the vestibule next to last and opposite the vestibule last. This sets up for GREAT rain coverage and frankly I was surprised. The zippers are very fine so treat them with a delicate touch to keep from trapping the fly material. The tent came with guy lines already assembled at proper lengths and seams sealed. If you are serious about light weight and high performance, I would recommend this tent.
I prioritize lightweight when choosing my tent and this fits the bill. I haven't used it in rain or wind yet, but have concerns given the minimal coverage provided by the fly. It stops well short of the ground on the three non-vestibule sides, especially on the long side opposite the vestibule. No way the base stays dry on that side.
I've been camping all my life but this is my first tent. Set up was pretty easy. I was concerned with how short the rain fly was on some sides but after a 20min torrential downpour and some wind, not 1 drop made it's way in. The material is super thin and light but it stood up to about 5 zipper catches. Didn't even leave a mark. The only con would be that I had to buy a footprint for it.
Packs down super small. Soooo light weight. love the side door. Very fast to set up.
Have used this tent for 30+ nights on several trips. Holds up great in wind and rain. Easy to set up and really light.
Durable, VERY light, easy to assemble/disassemble. Perfect for backpacking beginners/veterans
