Rated 3 out of 5 by from Grommet/ Straps too long It's a footprint- so 3 stars for being what it should be. But, once each grommet is in the tip of each pole, it is loose underneath the tent. The footprint is very loose and certainly not taught, or even well-fitting, as it should be. I will be sewing the straps to be shorter or adding 9/32" grommets to make the poles hit further into the strap and make it more taught. This is the only tent I've ever had this issue with... and this isn't the only review that has reflected this issue. I'd think REI would fix this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great with a staked out tent Definitely recommend a footprint with any tent; keeps the floor cleaner, helps reduce punctures and acts as a water barrier. Other reviews mention the footprint does not work because the webbing's are too long. What I've noticed is that the footprint works great when the tent is properly staked out. I've even used the fly, poles and footprint as a very lightweight shelter in the summer - bug can still get to ya tho....

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Straps too long, as has been said. Nothing wrong with the footprint, except that the straps are too long for the tent it's meant for. Sorry REI, but how is one supposed to get it to lay properly without sewing the straps shorter?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good footprint, but straps are oddly long The footprint itself is nice enough and I appreciate the "this side up" label, but as others have said, the straps are too long/the grommets are positioned too far out. This results in either the footprint being loose under the tent. In the Q&A section for this item, REI themselves acknowledge that the footprint will not be taut if you use the grommets. That makes this seem intentional, which just seems like a poor design choice. That said, you could always just stake the footprint separately from the tent, but that does mean using an additional 4 stakes (bringing the total required stakes up to 14 (4 for the footprint, 4 for the tent, 4 for the fly vestibules, and 2 for the guylines at the head and foot of the fly. The Quarter Dome 2 only comes with 9 stakes.) The footprint also has clips at the end of each strap that you can attach the fly to in order to use just the fly, footprint, and poles as a lightweight, minimalist shelter.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Keep a clean tent! Poor design. It should be sold with the individual tents and should match the identical footprint like other manufactures. Only recommend it because you need footprint and the Quarter Dome doesn't come with one. No one told me about the need for a footprint either time I purchased a tent (I started with a one man then went to the 2 man).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't fit the tent The footprint doesn't line up exactly under the tent (too small), and to make things worse, the straps and grommets are too long so the edges are not pulled taught when you connect them into the pole system. Bad value for your money, especially since you have to pay for this separately.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great quality, straps are slightly off The footprint itself is great and comes with a small bag to store it in, however the straps that the poles connect to are slightly long and thus leads to a slightly loose fit. It's still usable though and simple modifications could help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from REI co-op quarter dome 2 Haven't used yet. Will use soon. It got great reviews and for the price you can't beat it!

Questions & Answers

Heybso I just bought this for the new QD2 and it seems like it doesn't quite fit as it should? The footprint straps go out way to I missing something? It is all correctly laid out

Asked by: Help
We have found that if you completely stake out the tent the footprint will fit nicely under the tent without being exposed on the edges. The footprint grommets are designed to interface with the tent pole tips, however, the footprint will not be taut when completely installed.

Can the footprint be used in conjunction with the rain fly and pole to create an ultralight shelter like can be done with the older model?

Asked by: 670sam
The tent does have the fly/footprint minimalist pitch option.

Do I really need this for my tent? If yes then for which situations?

Asked by: Maxim
While the footprint for the Quarter Dome tent is not required, it is always recommended. A footprint will protect and significantly extend the life of the bottom of your tent.

REIservice, I bought my Quarter Dome 2 about June of 2016. Is that an obsolete model now, and will this foot print not fit?

Asked by: Toddro
We unfortunately no longer make the version of the tent that you purchased. This footprint will not be compatible with that tent.

Will this new footprint fit the old quarter dome 2? I never bought the old foot print because all the previous reviews said the straps were too long.

Asked by: Joeyl012
The older tent and this newer footprint are a different size and are not compatible.
