A solid tent footprint for the Base Camp 4
It's a pretty standard tent footprint. Lines up perfectly with the the ground area of the REI Base Camp 4 tent. One side of the footprint looks to have a coating which will help to prevent any moisture ingress. Comes with a handly little stuff sack type bag, which is plenty big enough to get the tarp back in. Only two (2) of the four (4) corners of the footprint have grommets to land the tent poles to keep everything aligned -- but that's an issue with the design of the tent. This leaves the other two corners relying on stakes to stay put -- which is a bit wonky as the strap/loop lengths don't match the corner straps on those two (2) tent corners, which did lead to a bit of frustration. But again, I think that's a gap with the tent design and half the corners relying on little pockets for the ends of the poles.
Great Footprint
I've always liked REIs footprints, most of the tents I've ownerd in the past I've just used a tarp, it wasnt until I had been camping on my own for a while before I started using footprints specific to the tent. I've been a fan and now make it a priority to have the specific footprint for the tent. This footprint is lightweight, easy to pack up and durable. Its a no brainer to help protect your tent.
Did the job but it’s an ok fit for the Base Camp 4
I like footprints in the sense that it keeps the bottom of the tent from getting dirty and dusty. But it’s always too thin to fully prevent needles and sticklers from puncturing through, which then punctures the tent and hence things inside. The same goes with Base Camp 4 footprint just from feeling the material. And that is why I still lay down a tarp underneath the footprint to fully protect against punctures. This may be excessive but I have had a punctured sleeping pad for this very reason. I’m also knocking down one star because it wasn’t clear that you can’t turn the footprint in any direction and it’ll automatically fit with the tent — that would be easier to use. Instead, you’ll want to pay attention to the 2 ends of the footprint that have the metal circular holes to align with side of the tent that will have poles that will need to go thru the holes. On the other side of the tent, the pole ends sit fully inside sleeves and hence don’t stick out. That’s where you’ll just want to make sure you’re aligning with the side of the footprint that don’t have metal circles. See pictures.
Well-made, but does not extend into vestibule
This footprint fits perfectly under the Base Camp 4 Tent. It has held up well over multiple uses, and protects the tent well, with no shifting underneath or bunching. I would prefer that the footprint extend into the vestibule. It ends right where the edge of the bottom of the tent ends. If that doesn't bother you, and it might not, its a great footprint.
Base Camp 4 Footprint, Size:OS
The base camp 4 footprint comes in a small handy bag that doesn’t take much room which is very convenient when packing camping gear. I found that the size was smaller than the Basecamp 4 tent and would have preferred to have it slightly larger footprint. It has a moisture barrier that helps keep the heat inside the tent. Otherwise, overall the product did the job. One star off for size.
Fine but not waterproof enough
It fits the tent well and is light and convenient. It does protect the bottom of the tent well from dirt/pebbles. That being said, we had to pitch our tent on wet ground (midwest) as it had rained earlier. Ground water eventually made its way through the footprint, and got the floor of the tent wet (so the tent not waterproof enough either) and smelly (mildew smell). So now when I am expecting rain or wet ground, I still just use a tarp
Perfect fit!
Perfect fit. Does not pool water like a tarp does. Highly recommend if you buy a nice tent you will want this to go with it.
Just buy it.
Definitely a worthwhile purchase. Heavier than most footprints I've used, and fits the tent perfectly.
