Over 40 nights spent in this tent. Zero issues to date. Extremely easy to set up and take down with one person. Quality is highest possible rating. High level of durability. Always used with a medium grade tarp to protect the underside. Brand new condition. Desert, swamp, forest rain or shine. MtnGlow feature is game changer, never worry about nighttime lights again. If you are looking for 1 tent to purchase in your life this will be the one. Still hype on product after extended use.
I bought this tent after much research, about a month ago. I set it up indoors to see how it all worked. It is very easy and fast to put up or down. It did buy the footprint which seems like it should be included and is over priced but needed. Next I took it on this years Bon Ton Rulet bicycle tour around the Finger Lakes of New York. I slept in it three nights. The first night was fair weather. The second night the wind was blowing with gusts to 30 mph or more and it poured rain with Thunderstorms. Not a drop of rain came inside even with the rain fly vent open. The next night a fellow beside me had the two place version. It looked small and for hardly any more weight and size he said after looking at mine he would buy my model to replace his. This next night it rained hard again but not much wind. Again not a drop of water inside. When I first tried the LED lights I was not impressed but the early morning of the second night when I had to pack up inside in the dark because I would have to take the tent down in the rain I saw that the lights really were worth the money and convenience. I am glad I bought this tent. Larry Zetterlind
Part of the rationale behind buying this tent was to help incentivize my wife to go on a two night camping trip in the Adirondacks with me. The tent certainly felt light as I threw it into the cavernous duffel bag filled with all the other 80 pounds of car-camping gear one needs to camp comfortably with their wife for two days. Once at camp, it was a breeze to set up quickly, including the footprint. We were soon off exploring. When we got back to camp, the weather took a turn for the worse and rain came pouring down on us. We must not have guyed the tent out well enough as the part of the tent directly over my head must have been touching the mesh layer. Drip drip drip...on my head about 2AM. Although I should have exited in the dark rain and re-guyed it, it was much easier to stay in my sleeping bag and pretend it wasn’t happening. So, I was able to test the interior waterproof qualities as a pretty big puddle formed under my head and remained until morning. Upon waking, we did re-guy the tent, squeegeed the floor and went upon our daily adventures. The vestibules are nice, but as others mentioned, it takes some getting used to the opposing “meet at the corner” door zippers. The tent had lots of storage spots and was plenty big for the two of us to fit comfortably along with a 40” flatscreen. The mountain glow feature was nice to fade away into sleepy-land, but I wish it had a specific auto-off or sleep timer function so you wouldn’t have to do a sit-up right before you fall asleep. After that trip, I never did see my wife again, so I’ve had plenty of time to test out the tent on the trail and on a short canoe camping trip. I wouldn’t recommend trying to pitch this tent on a canoe. Ease of setup and light weight make this 3P my new 1P for backpacking. Although, when I want to save an extra pound and pretend I’m a hotdog, I can get my real 1P solo tent out, or if I want to get nostalgic about the “good ol’ days,” I can break out my smaller, heavier 2P tent to get my kicks on the trail in a very retro way that will make other campers ask me what things were like “back in my day.”
I bought this tent for our section hike on the AT this summer. I wanted a super light-weight tent that still had space for my daughter, myself and our packs. The Big Agnes copper Spur HV UL 3 GLO did not disappoint on every level! It seriously took me about five minutes to setup by myself. The built-in LED lights make for a cozy experience. The inside feels incredibly roomy and airy. The tent fit perfectly in my Gregory 65L pack. I know the price tag seems hefty, but when you see this tent you will thank me.
I truly love this tent. It’s the perfect size for a couple people during backpacking trips, and solo for car camping. For backpacking, this made more sense to me than the UL2. I’d rather split it in half and share the weight between two people. The mtnGLO light is a nice luxury and the added weight is negligible. For non-backpacking trips, I have some nice car camping tents, but I prefer to take this instead. It’s just so easy and simple that it helps make camping that much more enjoyable. I haven’t used this tent in any extreme weather. Just a little bit of light rain and wind. I’ll probably stick to using this in late spring, summer and early fall. I can’t wait to see the exposition grade Copper Spur they’re releasing next year!
Just finished the John Muir trail with this tent. Wind, hard rain, no problems. Love the led lite strip.
We spent our first night in this tent on the beach at Assateague Island National Seashore, when a crazy summer thunderstorm rolled through. The Copper Spur HV UL 3 withstood 40 mph winds and driving rain, and the only reason we noticed was the lightning and thunder overhead. We stayed dry and snug through two nights of storms. This tent is an ideal size for two people and a dog, with lots of interior room and plenty of storage. The built-in lights are incredibly convenient, and setup was a breeze.
We are huge Big Agnes fans, and have never had any issues with any of their products. However, on our first trip out with this tent, my son leaned (very) slightly against the sidewall, and the gear pocket ripped in half. Other than that issue, the tent seems fine. Lots of space, lightweight. We have contacted customer service and are returning. As long as we get a refund and replacement we will try the tent again, hoping someone was just having a bad day at the factory and we got a faulty product. Will re-review if that’s the case.
I purchased this tent from REI when they were running their tent promotions. Being a REI COOP Member is awesome, I was able to purchase this tent before it was even accessible on the BigAgnes website . Tent setup is easy and mtnGLO lights are great for a card game or keeping your tent lit up while gathering wood late at night . 5 STARS
Used this tent for 6 nights in the GC. Sets up quick and easy with color coded clips and stays. For its size it is easy to carry. It kept us completely dry with 12 plus hours of consistent rain. It does puddle rain in the triangle on the fly but it never dripped. The interior lighting system is great! It is well ventilated even with most of the fly vent options closed to block off wind and cold. There was no inside condensation. The two doors are very convenient. It has lots of pockets and loops to hang stuff to dry or just keep stuff off the floor. While a 3 person tent it would be very tight. We split the parts between us 2 carrying about 2 lbs each so no problem having all the space for 2. The custom fitted footprint is a little pricey but worth it as it is color coordinated as well for easy set up. Even the stakes are well designed and tough being pounded in by rocks in rocky soil.
