Warm all day in 5F

A buddy "forgot" to return my favorite old wool cap before a big trip to Montana for some ice climbing this season. Picked this up and was very pleased. While it is a bit thick when wearing a helmet, it fits pretty well and is one of the most comfortable winter hats I have ever owned. We had some cold mornings (5F) that warmed to mid-20's and the hat kept me cozy through all of it. Forehead sweat was wicked right away and I did not get that annoying itchy head syndrome that sometimes gets you in the winter. I usually take 5 star ratings with a grain of salt but after 15 years of skiing, snowboarding, and climbing throughout the winter, I really believe this is the best hat I have owned.

Warmed a Canadian winter

Wind block and very warm. Performed well at below zero temps during dog sledding and snow mobile. Never felt cold during 4 hours outdoors, at night in Canadian NWT shooting aurora borealis.

It Rules

Had one for years, loved it. Left it on a train in Canada (see how generous I am?) Bought another immediately. Just used it hiking all over Norway. Stop thinking; just buy it now and thank me later.

Mountain Hard Wear never dissappoints

Mountain Hard Wear is becoming one of my preferred brands. This is my first MHW hat that I only use in extremely cold weather when I'm going to be outside for hours on end without breaking a sweat. I use it with a neckwarmer and neoprene facemask with Velcro around the back. The hat pulls down over the Velcro perfectly giving me a really snug fit and keeps the Velcro in place. I'm not too crazy about the pointy dome but whatever, this thing keeps me warm and wind doesn't effect it at all so my ears appreciate it too.

Head heat

This hat from Mountain Hardwear should be temperature rated. The one thing I have learned is that it will warm your head in a heartbeat. But if it's too warm you will sweat into it and we all know what a wet head can do in cold conditions. I suggest bringing a lighter knit hat so you can change to this one if it gets cold cold.

looks funny but works

Not sure why its so pointy at the top but I love this hat! Works well when its very cold out of you are not moving but otherwise its overkill. I use it for sleeping when its less than 55F any higher and I will sweat. The hat can be worn with the lower part flipped up exposing the ears which I do during conversation because the hat can block quite a bit of sound. The lower part can be pulled over the eyes which combined with the ear covers makes it possible to get some sleep even during the day with some noise.

Big Headed People Rejoice! Your winter hat is here

I have a big head and thick hair so finding hats can be a challenge. I purchased this hat in XL and it fits perfectly. Some hats are so tight they give you a headache if worn too long. This one has the right amount of snugness to keep out the cold and roominess to be comfortable. I love the design of this hat as well. It is curved so that it is longer in the back and shaped to cover the ears so you do not need earmuffs or extra covering for your ears. The hat is soft and warm and the material feels great. I use it regularly for trail hikes now the weather has turned cold.

Outstanding warmth to weight ratio

Had one for years recently stolen from work. This item is a no brainer and is my first choice for head coverage in any cool / cold weather situation. Due to windproof fleece, has incredible warmth to weight ratio and is particularly suited for back packing where weight is at a premium. As I said is a no brainer and will be replacing it shortly.
