Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Box (So Far) The box mounted well on my factory cross bars but I was concerned if it would interfere with the antenna mounted near the rear hatch (2017 Ford Escape). There was a good 6 inches of clearance, so no problem with that. The box has been very stable at high speeds and I've noticed very little extra wind noise at highway speeds. Once you get the hang of how the hinges need to fold when closing, it closes well. The latch and locking mechanism seems to be working just fine. I've driven through a light rain and the inside of the box stayed dry. I don't have experience yet of driving through prolonged heavy rain. I often drive on very dusty forest service roads for many miles and have noticed that a small amount of dust does enter the box. It would be nice if it sealed out dust a little better but it's not too bad. Overall, I'm satisfied with my purchase of this box.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Flimsy lid that leaked - TWICE I decided to go with the showcase 15 because it had a low clearance length and would allow my hatch to open completely. I also assume that since it's significantly more expensive than other boxes, that it would be that be that much better. Take ONE - I ordered my first Showcase 15 and had it shipped directly to the store. Once installed I noticed the lid had several inches of play and I could almost see into the box with a little bit of force. On my drive home I drove through a sprinkler going 45mph and when I looked in the box there was water...I took it back to the store and they said the hinge was broken and ordered me a new one no questions asked (REI is the best). Take TWO - I picked up my new Showcase 15 at the store, directly out of the box, and the associate helped me install it. Initially it seemed to have less play in the hinges so I was cautiously optimistic. I was on the highway heading home when I drove through a brief rain shower and I thought "perfect, a chance to test it out!". I'm glad it rained because when I got home it was soaked inside, several pools of water from 5 minutes of rain going 60mph...not good. I took this back and swapped it out for a Thule Force L. I'm not sure if Yakima is having quality control issues but I saw another reviewer had the same issues that I did. I would not recommend this box to anyone, definitely not worth the money. To with the Yakima Skybox or the Thule Force instead; you won't be sorry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hauling more gear Great product . I needed more storage when camping in our tent trailer . It moves from car to trailer when carrying kayaks . The sales lady 133547 was a lot of help deciding what we need . The installation person was a great help in installing the lock cores that match my bicycle , roof and car racks . Always a pleasure to shop at REI

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Recommendation: Grab an earlier display model I purchased this in May to get 20% off during memorial sale, wanted anthracite black, but store just had quicksilver, so they shipped one to store. Everything good except whenever I drove any distance the passenger side front corners (closest to side logo) of lid pulled up to expose bottom lip, and rain would enter in. After a month I decided this was unacceptable so I went to store to check out display model, and I could not get those corners of bottom lip to show, so figured mine was a defect. Display was silver and I still wanted black, so had store order another black one. Due to a mix-up in style numbers, a black box and silver box arrived for me at the store, and both boxes had the same issue as my first box. I now own the store's silver display model with which I'm quite pleased. Form follows function here. I have to think somewhere along the way Yakima revised a manufacturing step which changed how the lid interacts with the tray and have to think my box is from an earlier batch. No issues with the latch mechanisms in any of my experiences.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Flimsy hinges, difficult to open In the market for a roof top box that will fit my 2016 Outback. Wanted this one due to color (lighter is cooler for interior), and new "better built" system by Yakima for 2016. Was very disappointed once I was able to play with the unit inside the store. Major flaws apparent right in the store: 1. When closed and locked, the top comes up enough to expose the lip of the bottom tray. (a good 3/4" on both side) Upon inspection it's clear that the hinges have a lot of "give" in them on the door. Almost seemed like it was assembled wrong. But store employee confirmed that is how it is. 2. It is VERY difficult to open. The new push bottom latch requires 2 hands. For me it actually required that I grab the latch with both hands and push to open it. Once it unlocks, you need to use one hand to hold down the latch and one to pry open the lid. 3. Just an opinion, but the shiny silver color looked way cheaper than the dimpled black of the other model. -- for a few hundred dollars more than the Skybox, I expected something that was really a "Showcase." This was a dub. Ultimately went with the Skybox (that, being able to compare everything side by side - sold us immediately!)
