Sizing notes

TALL: Some shirts, pants and jackets are available in tall sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 3 inches longer and a rise that is 1 inch longer, a shirt or jacket body that is 2 inches longer and sleeves that are 2 inches longer than regular sizes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Runner's Dream Sometimes technology makes a leap in the right direction and this jacket so far has a lot going for it. It is incredibly light and is much lighter than it looks. The fit is trim. I ordered a medium and am 6 feet tall and 180 lbs. Normally wear a size 44R jacket if that helps. The sleeves are a great length and the body of the jacket is not floppy at all. While I haven't had a chance to run in a rain yet, the jacket just sheds any water off when running water over top. The breathability is also excellent along with being windproof. Not only will this be my go to running jacket but it will find a lot of use on my frequent travel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Rain Jacket Ever! I bought this rain jacket, about month ago, & I'm extremely happy with it. I wondered if it was worth the price?, but was willing to give it a shot because I could always return it. With all the rain we've been getting lately, I simply leave this jacket in my car & wait for the next rain fall. It's super light & no rain can penetrate it...amazing! However, to me, it's not that breathable so unzipping abit, may be necessary & if you're working hard or running, you will start to sweat. I'm very careful not to rub up against anything rough or sharp because I fear it will rip like paper, that's how thin & light it is. I'm pretty sure this will be the last rain jacket I purchase, unless it gets damaged.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Lightest, Dryest, All-Day Long Jacket Hands down the best waterproof jacket I've ever owned. It's so amazingly light and the adjustable cuffs are velvet smooth and barely noticeable. It's seams are all tape-sealed perfectly throughout. The right pocket has an internal media port and there's also a mesh internal pocket on the left side, the attention to detail is all here. It's highly versatile and will replace all my other waterproof shells. I wore this yesterday as a golf jacket and it was completely non-restrictive even with my John Dalyesque swing. Took it mountain biking up on the Pupukea Rainforest Trail and it repelled everything. If you're between sizes, go one up for comfort and versatility as a waterproof winter topshell even.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light, packable, fits well, perfect. I've also been testing the Columbia OutDry and I much prefer The North Face's attempt at the external/permanent waterproof membrane whatever. Compared to the OutDry the GTX is lighter, it's not as noisy, the hood fits and works better, there's an inside pocket (it's small, and mesh, with no closure, but it's better than nothing) and it has a small opening on the right side of the jacket that goes through the right pocket, for headphones. You can zip that pocket almost all the way up, so it's still closed even with headphone wires sticking out. Overall it just feels and fits better, and the texture doesn't look like an old rubber fisherman's jacket. It's like second-skin, in a good way. Appearance / color-wise, it's smart enough I'd use it for business travel, but would also take it on the trail. I may need to get a second one. I should mention it does not have pit zips, which is something the OutDry had. And being light, it has very little insulation so you'll need to layer in colder environments.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of a kind. Product is so light and thin that it slips between my laptop compartment in my backpack incognito as an emergency to rainy days. My primary reason for choosing the Hyperair over its other waterproof lineup is to be able to repel rain on extremely hot days. The overall design of the product is very satisfying. The only complaint is that the Velcro hook on the arm is plastic, which makes it difficult to engage the loop and will need some pressure and massaging for it to stick. It would be a treat to have it available in different colors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great packable rain jacket Took my new jacket to the BWCA and got 2 straight days of rain, some very heavy. My "rain" pants were soaked but the jacket kept me dry. Great for paddling in the rain. Has no insulating value though so you have to wear something under.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Excellent Travel Jacket I took the North Face Hyper Air jacket with me on the airplane and waking on the Camino de Santiago (over 100 miles) in Spain in June. This was the PERFECT jacket. On the airplane it kept me as warm as my fleece jacket without feeling hot or sweaty. Of course, not as soft as fleece but the hood was great to create that barrier between the seat back and my head. On the Camino I walked through 5+ hours of rain and temperatures in the low 50s F and this is all I needed over a moisture wicking t-shirt to stay dry and comfortable. Zippers are a nice touch to further create a waterproof barrier. Velcro sleeves ensured the right fit and option to cover hands when they got wet and cold. An added bonus is this jacket folds-up into the size of slightly bigger than my fist which makes it terrific for traveling light. The Hyper Air is now my go-to jacket. Highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from essential gear I consider this absolutely essential gear. It goes from airplane travel to alpine trekking without missing a beat. You can see the quality of the construction from the precision of the seam alignments. This latest Gore-tex fabric is very soft and light and breathable, yet you can still confidently count on its impermeability against wet weather. What's more, you can practically collapse the jacket to a size of your back pocket if you have to.

Sizing: I'm sometimes a medium; other times a large. 5'11" 178 pounds. Thanks!

Asked by: Naglelaw
If you are not going to wear heavier layers underneath, the medium should fit fine.

How well does this jacket perform for backpacking?

Asked by: Lmill503
The North Face does not recommend this jacket for back packing. Abrasions from the pack would shorten the life of the jacket. Also, the pockets are low on the jacket so the pack belt would go over them and not allow you full use of the pockets. The insides of the pockets are mesh, which may be a concern if something hard is placed in them, since they may wear a hole in the mesh.

What pants match up?

Asked by: Dr Alan
The North Face does not make pants using Gore-Tex Active fabric. Any pair of waterproof breathable pants would work. Here is the link to the selection: https://www.rei.com/c/mens-rain-pants

How durable?

Asked by: dapinitial
The HyperAir GTX Rain Jacket is more fragile than most other waterproof/breathable jackets. If care is taken not to brush against trees, shrubs, rocks, etc. the jacket should hold up quite well.

I am 6'2" and 155 lbs. Will a medium work even if I am wearing a collared shirt? I would like it still loose.

Asked by: Ulukai
Please review the sizing chart to determine which size will fit you best. Size medium is likely the best size.
