VERY POOR QUALITY CONTROL. I had to send 3 of these back because the pit zip ripped out on all 3..the original, plus two replacements...in EXACTLY the same place. I need a good soft shell for the Chugach up here in Alaska, with all the weather that comes down the pike. I really enjoyed the jacket and it got the job done, but at the end of each season, the seam at the pit zip got large enough for my thumb to come through. Their chat algorithm is horrible to deal with. Back in the day, the North Face was a quality company, with great products and great service. I have one NF jacket that must be 20 years old, and it still wears like iron. I need to bring that out of the closet because of gybe poor quality nowadays.
I'm 6'2", 200lbs, lean but athletic, and I have long arms. I got a medium and it's a perfect slightly slim but very unrestricted fit. Jackets get very boxy on me very quickly, it's difficult for me to find things that fit really well and this is one piece that I will never get rid of. The material and zippers feel very high quality, it's fully waterproof and wind proof and unbelievably ergonomic. I can swing my arms in full rotation without the bottom of the jacket lifting up. I use it as a rain jacket in the PNW most of the year but throw a layer under it in the winter and it's been phenomenal for both.
Ive used this jacket while hiking and climbing. Great versatility. Perfect to use as a shell to keep the wind and rain/snow off of you while also being super lightweight. The zippers under the armpit are a great feature for airflow
It's a nice jacket and will definitely keep you warm when it's cold. The biggest downside is the lack of pockets. If you don't truly care about that then it's a great jacket.
