Great fit, excellent material

Both my boyfriend and I were looking to get new rain jackets for our upcoming trip to Norway. We were looking to spend no more than $200 and therefore tried on most of the rain jackets REI had for $200 or less. Out of all the jackets we both tried on, the Mammut Wenaha had the best fit and overall look/feel of the material. I also compared this to the Arc'Teryx Beta SL, as this was on sale for $208. This Mammut definitely has a good, sturdy material and feels very expensive. I am 5'6, 135 lbs, athletic build (broad shoulders), and the Medium fits me perfectly, with room for a layer or two underneath. Great length as well, come down on my hip bone.

Did not keep me dry!

This is my second jacket. The first was returned due to a defect with the seam seal on the pocket. The pocket filled with water after about 10 minutes in the rain while it was zippered closed. I am now drying out after an attempt to wear jacket number two in heavy rain. I was on a 15-20 minute walk with all the proper layers to stay warm and dry. About 5 minutes into the walk I feel water dripping into my inner layers. The pockets had filled with water again! Zippered up the whole time I was walking and water is still leaking into the inside hand pockets. When I got back to dry land and took the jacket off I could see that water was seeping in from the lower part of the pit zips as well. Additionally water was starting to seep through the shoulders and back. Thankfully my nano puff kept me warm and dry. I am extremely disappointed in this. I would assume this is a one off defect if this wasn't my second Wenaha jacket. I loved the cut of the jacket, the material is supple, and it is very lightweight which made it great for tons of activities. But twice it has failed in a heavy downpour. Thank you REI for your fantastic return policy. I am sad to write such a bad review and return/exchange another jacket. Please see the attached photos for details.

Not waterproof - not even waterresistant

I was so, so thrilled when I found this jacket. It ticked all my boxes from great hood to decent length and inside pockets. Fantastic style and so nice to touch. Dreamy. Some of the reviews describing the poor performance of the jacket made me nervous, however. The day after I bought the jacket was a grey and rainy day. I did not have time to take the jacket out myself, but found a way to simply hang it outside while the rain showers were moving through. Two hours later I checked, and I was more than disappointed. The rain had gone through on the shoulders and in the arm area. Brand new jacket and I was not even in it! I could not have been more disappointed. Obviously, the jacket went straight back to REI. I had paid full price.

Lovely fit and great features!

Great rain jacket, especially for those who appreciate a jacket that is long enough in the back to fully cover the bum (pretty essential in a good rain jacket!). The overall fit is lovely. I'm 5'7", slim build at 135 lbs, and the small fits nicely over a fleece and my insulated primaloft jacket, but doesn't look too boxy or baggy when worn alone. Women with a larger bust would probably want to size up for layering. The hood is nice and deep enough to help keep my glasses dry, which is the main selling point for me. The internal pocket is also a really nice feature and, while it's a bit silly, I appreciate that the fabric is less noisy than my old rain jacket.

Not waterproof in anything heavier than a drizzle

I bought this jacket on sale a few months ago in preparation for a job in which I was working outside for days at a time, in all weather. Luckily, it only ever drizzled while I was working and the jacket worked great. Then, I traveled to the Pacific Northwest and wore it on some hikes that ended up being very rainy. The water soaked through the material and through the zipper and got my next layer wet when I needed to stay dry the most. I was very disappointed and plan on returning this jacket. I hope that maybe I just had a faulty one, but I am lucky that I never had to use this jacket while camping or backpacking in the rain; I would have been soaked the entire time.

Pros and cons depends on climate

I think this Jackets value really depends on what you are doing. I used the Jacket for hiking and it did great against random afternoon mountain showers and the fabric breathes well, it fits like a dream and I absolutely loved it, but then I moved to a rain forest, suffice to say it just couldnt hold out against a 3 hour downpour, the water came through on the shoulders and sleeves, not enough that my clothes were soaked, but it left them damp and cold. The jacket however does dry out fairly quick if you are able to let it dry out for about 20 minutes, I unfortunately needed something to keep the rain out for 8 hour work days in heavy rain.

nice jacket but

This jacket was selected when I was trying to replace my gore-tex parka used in both wet and cold climates. I carefully read the reviews and realized to have the rain jacket fit comfortably over other layered garments that I should order a size larger. I carefully consulted the size chart and my measurements of 40-36-40 confirmed that I should order a size L (despite having worn size M for 50 years). But when it arrived it was tight, just over a single layer.

NOT WATERPROOF

I LOVED the features and colors of this jacket. Interior zip pocket, two exterior pockets, pit zips, and a hood. The biggest bummer is that I was sold a jacket that was listed as waterproof, this jacket is NOT WATERPROOF. On a typical rainy day with off/on constant rain...the jacket quickly absorbs water, and you will feel damp inside if not soaked. Jacket returned...sadly.

keeps you dry

Bought this for my daughter in the gray color, size small. She is 5'2" and weights about 120. It is roomy enough to wear a fleece underneath. She lives in the NW where it rains all the time. She loves how dry it keeps her and said it keeps the wind out too.
