Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fit, excellent material Both my boyfriend and I were looking to get new rain jackets for our upcoming trip to Norway. We were looking to spend no more than $200 and therefore tried on most of the rain jackets REI had for $200 or less. Out of all the jackets we both tried on, the Mammut Wenaha had the best fit and overall look/feel of the material. I also compared this to the Arc'Teryx Beta SL, as this was on sale for $208. This Mammut definitely has a good, sturdy material and feels very expensive. I am 5'6, 135 lbs, athletic build (broad shoulders), and the Medium fits me perfectly, with room for a layer or two underneath. Great length as well, come down on my hip bone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely fit and great features! Great rain jacket, especially for those who appreciate a jacket that is long enough in the back to fully cover the bum (pretty essential in a good rain jacket!). The overall fit is lovely. I'm 5'7", slim build at 135 lbs, and the small fits nicely over a fleece and my insulated primaloft jacket, but doesn't look too boxy or baggy when worn alone. Women with a larger bust would probably want to size up for layering. The hood is nice and deep enough to help keep my glasses dry, which is the main selling point for me. The internal pocket is also a really nice feature and, while it's a bit silly, I appreciate that the fabric is less noisy than my old rain jacket.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from nice jacket but This jacket was selected when I was trying to replace my gore-tex parka used in both wet and cold climates. I carefully read the reviews and realized to have the rain jacket fit comfortably over other layered garments that I should order a size larger. I carefully consulted the size chart and my measurements of 40-36-40 confirmed that I should order a size L (despite having worn size M for 50 years). But when it arrived it was tight, just over a single layer.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Did not keep me dry! This is my second jacket. The first was returned due to a defect with the seam seal on the pocket. The pocket filled with water after about 10 minutes in the rain while it was zippered closed. I am now drying out after an attempt to wear jacket number two in heavy rain. I was on a 15-20 minute walk with all the proper layers to stay warm and dry. About 5 minutes into the walk I feel water dripping into my inner layers. The pockets had filled with water again! Zippered up the whole time I was walking and water is still leaking into the inside hand pockets. When I got back to dry land and took the jacket off I could see that water was seeping in from the lower part of the pit zips as well. Additionally water was starting to seep through the shoulders and back. Thankfully my nano puff kept me warm and dry. I am extremely disappointed in this. I would assume this is a one off defect if this wasn't my second Wenaha jacket. I loved the cut of the jacket, the material is supple, and it is very lightweight which made it great for tons of activities. But twice it has failed in a heavy downpour. Thank you REI for your fantastic return policy. I am sad to write such a bad review and return/exchange another jacket. Please see the attached photos for details.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this! Waterproof and a great look. I purchased this jacket for Boy Scouts all-season camping trips, and it has become my go-to coat. In Oregon, we need waterproof, and this jacket is perfect. The hood stays in place and keeps the rain out of your face. The fit is great, and the zippers are fantastic. It is a simple but very well built jacket that will surely last for a long time. I have used it daily for several months now, and it still looks new.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cute, Good Fit, and GORE-TEX! I purchased the jacket in blue with "teal" accent. I use it solely as a shell. Very cute, and I like the way it fits as a petite woman. I'm 5'2", 120 lbs, and have a large chest (size C/D). With a thin layer underneath and without a layer, the jacket fits well. When I wear my Patagonia down sweater underneath, I look a little bit like a Michelin Man, and when I wear my REI down jacket (pretty puffy), I definitely do (and it turns into a snug fit)! But that would happen with any shell, and the small was just too baggy and not flattering on me. My only complaint is that it's difficult to zip/unzip the outer pockets, which I use constantly for keys/phone. It's heavier than previous shells I've used and doesn't pack down as small, but that's what you get when you upgrade to Gore-tex. I got this jacket on sale, so it was a great deal.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from runs small I loved all the features of this jacket when I saw it but was disappointed that even their largest size (XL) is way too tight. I'm 5'4" and 175lbs and can usually wear a L but even after trying the XL in this it was still too tight. I find it really hard to believe other reviewers thought there was plenty of room to layer under it? Not true. Truly disappointing b/c it had everything I really wanted in a rain jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from keeps you dry Bought this for my daughter in the gray color, size small. She is 5'2" and weights about 120. It is roomy enough to wear a fleece underneath. She lives in the NW where it rains all the time. She loves how dry it keeps her and said it keeps the wind out too.

I am looking for a truly waterproof rain jacket that will last a long time. I bought a mid cost Arcteryx from you folks 3 years ago thinking this was the end all jacket, but in a true NW downpour my shoulders and cuffs get wet. Does this qualify?

Asked by: Grandma Ann
This jacket has a waterproof breathable membrane that is laminated to the jacket and works fine for NW rainy conditions. With good care, this should last you a while. For more information about jacket care please visit the following link:

Why didn't you include a two way front sipper? At REI I found jackets with the other bells and whistles but not one I liked had a two way zipper? Very useful when driving, on a chairlift, etc. Is it no longer a thing?

Asked by: jeleavitt
Two-way zippers are found on some technical jackets, such as those designed for climbing applications where a harness is being worn under the jacket. Here is a Mammut jacket that features a two-way zipper:
