When I first tried the shoe on in the store I knew it would be the one for me. I am an RN and everyone knows we are on our feet pretty much all shift. I used to wear Crocs and I would still feel tired at end of shift. Not with these shoes. Except for feeling a little tired on the first day of wearing to break them in, I am not feeling that anymore and love these shoes. I have a wide foot and the fit is spot on. No cramping. I have a bunion on my right great toe and there is no irritation of that. Great shoes, I am confident they are well worth the price.
I love that this shoe fits to size! I usually need to wear men's shoes because the toe box narrows too quickly. This neutral shoes is comfortable! My knees thanked me for the extra cushion. My feet didn't hurt after my 10k training run. Best of all, my toes didn't feel smashed and splayed very well. The lugs on the soles offer great support on trails and pavement. The shoe laces never came untied throughout my run. Fyi, I double-knot my laces. Not having worn Hoka One One Challenger ATR I cannot compare the second version from the first. I've understood some reviewers mention the volume decreased since the first design. Upon wearing the shoes I didn't have a problem with the volume. Overall, these shoes are two-thumbs up and five stars. I will gladly update this review as miles are added if needed.
I feel the shoe size runs large. I am a true 7.5. Depending on shoe or boot styles I often wear sz 8. I settled on a sz 7 in this shoe and there is plenty of room. My foot is average with a somewhat narrow heel. This shoe is not snug on my heel. There is plenty of toe room. I bought them because I walk/hike 2 to 6 miles at least 5 times a week with my dog. (I prefer mid style boots or shoes for backpacking). The cushioning is great for my distances. I have had no blisters or corns from these shoes. They can sometimes feel a little sloppy on sideways motion but I don't like to cinch them too tight. Overall a great shoe. Any shoe with this much cushioning will not look as sleek as some trail runners. I do like the dark blue. I think I would have preferred even a screaming yellow sole to the one on these shoes but they grow on you.
I have all kinds of foot problems including painful arthritis in the large joint behind the big toe so I can't have a shoe that bends easily as I do over 7 miles a day, mainly on sidewalks. This shoe is nice and stiff but also very well cushioned. So although it is a "Trail Running" shoe it works great as a high mileage city walking shoe for me.
I have had both of my feet reconstructed following a severe motor vehicle accident which left my feet crushed. I have many orthopedic issues with both feet that cause me pain with activity. As I am working my way through years of physical therapy, I am finally back to jogging- these Hokas are like clouds to my achy feet! I have been through New Balance, Brooks, ASICS, Nike, and more..... these are the first running shoes that I have felt a significant difference in the amount of time I can be on my feet without a limiting pain. The Hoka One One brand is definitely on my buy-again list. As for the shoe itself, it's a trail shoe- so it's got a lot of tread, which is neither here nor there for my purposes. It is a great neutral shoe for cavas feet. There is plenty of room inside for added orthorics or other inserts. They aren't the best looking shoe on the market- their thick sole reminds me a lot of the clunky velcro orthotic shoes I first wore after my surgeries- however, that thick cushion feels like a dream and offers great support. I wish REI carried more variety... I want to try them all!
Feels like your walking on pillows. Shoe absorbs all impact from road/trail/etc. and is literally one of the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. I noticed right away that I actually walk faster and no longer feel pain in my knee (from a previous injury) while walking or afterwards. I typically go on 2+ mile walks daily and I have shaved my time down quite a bit and no more pain, feet or otherwise. The only reason is this shoe doesn't get the full five stars is because for the price of the shoe it does not last very long. The mesh material on the side starts to tear within the first couple months of wear, and this is not from strenuous activity either. So it is disappointing to see a shoe this expensive not hold up better. Overall though it is so comfortable that I will (obviously) pay the price.
I have bad feet/ankles and needed extra cushion with midfoot ridgity. These did the trick because they provide the support and not as much cushion as the Cliftons so you still feel like your on a cloud, just not a cumulus! Great combination of both sole stability and cushion. My feet don't hurt as bad after stabding and walking. Highly recommend for all types of activity.
These shoes feel seamless. They are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. They don't pinch, pull, aren't too tight, don't rub. They are so comfortable I'm afraid they aren't supportive enough. You can't feel any grip. However, I can go for miles. I'm a hiker, not necessarily a runner, and these things are a dream for me. Boots always rub my the wrong way, so I was looking for a shoe. This shoe and the Montrail Bajada II are great choices, this being number 1.
I personally had to return these shoes due to over pronation while wearing them. I found a surprising lack of arch support. However, I did not try additional inserts, went back to my trusty Altras.
I love this shoe. I hike in it, fish in it, simply walk around the neighborhood. I need a new pair, because mine are trashed because I wear them everywhere outside. They are light weight, flexible, and dry fast. The mesh is very breathable. Great summer hiking, but might not be super sturdy for long backpacks. For a day hike, the best shoe I ever had! I'm not a runner.
