Super comfortable, but didn't last. They made it 4 trail runs and less than 2 months. Would not recommend.
This is the second pair of Speedgoat Hoka's I've purchased. They both started wearing out behind the heel within about 4 months and by about 6 months they were giving me blisters. I though the first pair was a fluke so I bought another pair, because they are so comfy, but for the price, they don't last and I will not buy Hokas again. I'm sorry, but I am not even running in these and no shoe should wear through in the first few months with light-moderate use. Total bummer :(
I have never written a product review before but I feel that this needs them, particularly for users of previous Speedgoat models. I've been wearing this shoe since the first iteration and have loved all of them (with some minor complaints about changes to the tongue) but I actually had to return these for something else. This fits and feels completely different - way less springy cushiony, super narrow (and I have narrow feet!), and uncomfortable after just a handful of miles. I've never experienced any of these things with previous models and am so disappointed in this version. Here's to hoping they go back in the direction of earlier models for the 7!
I had Speedgoat 3 for a while and loved it. It had good cushioning and soft flexible top material. The bottom sole was worn out with time so I decided to get same shoes, but now speedboat 6 was available. The shoe has such a plasticky feel to the top material and zero cushion. The inside soul feels like you're walking on clogs. I tried memory foam insert and thick socks, but I feel pain in the bottom of my foot while walking in them for a few minutes. This has very good waterproofing and very lightweight, but if your feet needs some cushion underneath it, there is none. They cut corners while upgrading from previous versions.
Bought these as I've had a good experience with the SG4. This version doesn't resemble anything I had been expecting. It's noticeably stiffer - almost like a hiking shoe. Do I have to break these in? Seems like a silly requirement if that's the case. Traction seems good but the fit and cushion is like running on two slabs of brick. What happened? I've always worn a wide and I bought these in a wide. Shocked that my left pinky toe felt numb after a few minutes. However, it didn't seem to be a width problem as much as a combination of the construction and cushioning. The SG4 was fairly mushy and introduced the minimalist tongue. Agree the tongue was never it's selling point.
Horrible design. People have been complaining about the tongue for the last 2 iterations of this shoe and Hoka clearly doesn’t listen to customer feedback. Now they still haven’t fixed it but there’s somehow less cushion. The tongue stitching hurts my foot so much it’s hard to get through a trail route without wanting to throw these shoes off a cliff and hike back in my socks. Not to mention it’s too short, so lacing up high leaves the laces directly cutting into your foot. The tongue is also so thin it hurts to tie them too tight anyway. What a trash design. Do better, hoka.
I just started with the speedgaot 5 last summer. I fell in love with this model. Beyond excited to get the 6 when it came out last fall. Extremely disappointed. Cut off circulation in feet when tied the way I normally tie running shoes. Tongue is too short. I've ran 2 half marathons with little training and they are falling apart. My speedgoat 5s are still holding strong with over a years worth of solid training a 30k Ultra and a half marathon. Quality was lost between models 5 and 6. BIG TIME!
These shoes showed wear and tear on the soles after only 4 months of wearing for walking and no longer provided good support for my feet. I tried to return them under REI’s satisfaction guaranteed policy, but they would not accept the return. Instead, I was told that this product is known for wearing out quickly. Too bad I wasn’t told this at the time of purchase. Very disappointed that REI would sell such a poor product.
I have worn the Speedgoat for 7 years now. I am not happy with the 6. It has less stability and less comfort. The tongue is a constant frustration, it’s too short and too flimsy. The laces don’t extend down as far and this may be contributing to the heel slipping?, or maybe it’s less padding around the top ? The change in the heel to toe drop is another minus. I really miss my speedgoat 5!!!
Have been wearing speedgoats since the 3. Despite extremely fast wear and tear it was worth it to me to buy a new pair every three months for the comfort and springy feel. I wore the 6's on a two mile walk/jog yesterday and had to take them off three times. They hurt so badly. Nothing helped-- not loosening the laces or adding inserts. They were cutting off circulation to my feet. They are narrow (even the wide), and stiff, and such a bummer. Can't possibly wear these in.
