Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really comfortable shirt, great for hot weather I am a geologist and I am outside all day. I needed a shirt to protect me from the sun but also light and breathable so I don't get too hot. I looked at just about every shirt in the store and this shirt had the thinnest, most breathable material. The material is really soft, with an almost silk like feel. It dries very quickly and fits nicely. It's a bit pricey but it's worth it for the comfort and breathability. I may even buy a second one in another color

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice shirt. Dries fast. Bought this on a whim during the annual sale. Tested this out on a 8 mile hike in 60 to 70 degree weather in Washington state. It doesn't give much warmth. It's cool to touch initially. It's quite breathable. Simple design and I can see this being an all day shirt where you can wear in city streets. I sweat a lot. This got thoroughly soaked but I never got hot in this. Dries really fast. Only thing I would have liked is a way to keep the sleeves up when you roll it. Would not wear this in the winter. Perfect warmer weather shirt with travel in mind. Be careful when washing, seems prone to piling.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy comfort that wears well and protect from the I bought this shirt in advance of a hiking and kayaking trip in Vancouver, BC. My wife recommended it and she was spot on. What a great shirt for a reasonable price. Sadly, someone from Amtrak in Canada stole it from my luggage on the train. But for the 2 times that I wore it, I was completely satisfied.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing Purchased this shirt to use on a recent trip. I needed something long sleeves, lightweight, quick drying. I have several Royal Robbins shirts that work fine and I had hopes this REI shirt would also be ideal. Unfortunately, despite some underarm vents, the shirt did not wick moisture and as a result was very sweaty and uncomfortable. I will be returning it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super-light protection against the sun Bought specifically for Grand Canyon backpacker in early June. Wanted something super-light that would provide protection against the sun for when shade was a premium. I have zero complaints. Shirt weighs next to nothing and feels great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Now if it just had insect shield already on it.... As a hiking shirt and potential base over which to wear other things, this is is a tough to beat choice. It's cool enough in warm weather to be usable into the 80s without a problem, and yet provides mechanical sun protection. The mesh panels on the back and underarms do a great job. It doesn't stink even after a couple of days on the trail (much) and does a fantastic job of wicking sweat. In the couple of days after purchase I put more than 30 miles of hiking on it in the backcountry and flat-out love it. I treated it with permethrin for insect repellent purposes, and like it even better. The only reason I docked one star is that it's not an "insect shield" shirt and is expensive. For the money, if it was pre-treated, it would be a slam-dunk excellent choice. As it stands if you hike where there are bugs (pretty much anywhere) you still need to deal with the bug side of things, although it "takes" permethrin spray well, dries reasonably quickly and once treated has the desired anti-tick, fly and mosquito attribute as well. As with all clothing best tried on in-store; I found it ran true to size and would have been ok ordering it on the Internet, but YMMV on that. Since I happened to be near an REI recently and was looking for a good base and hiking shirt layer for the top half and found it on the rack it got tried on and went home with me. Recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice blend of practical yet classy Size was as advertised and perfect for my approx 16" neck, 42" chest, and 34-35" sleeve. The hem is perfect to keep untucked. Material is light, but durable, and the slight stretch makes movement extremely easy. So good, I bought three!

Is this a type of material mosquitoes can easily bite through?

Asked by: Eli112
By itself, the Screeline Shirt is not rated to protect against mosquitoes. The shirt can be treated with Permethrin, an insect repellant: https://www.rei.com/search.html?q=Sawyer+Permethrin&ir=q%3ASawyer+Permetherin&page=1
