It’s my first sun shirt and I’m pleasantly surprised. I’ll definitely be picking up a couple more. I like the regular fit, too. I know some have said it fits big, but I would have needed a medium in the other, semi fitted Sahara shirt and the sleeves were too long. The regular fit let me size down so the sleeves are perfect. I will say, the hang tag broke the first time I tried to hang it up, I’ll be exchanging it asap.
I saw more and more nature lovers wearing shade hoodies. I hike and kayak a lot in the Arizona sun, so I began to preview this piece of clothing. REI offered their brand and I shop frequently there. I stopped in and tried on the Sahara Shade Hoodie. I liked the feel of the lightweight fabric and the UPF 50+ sun protection. The hood fits easily over my ball cap giving my ears extra sun protection. The sleeves have thumbholes offering extra protection for the back of my hands. When the hood is down, the fabric covers and protects the back of my neck. The quality and price makes this sun-protection hoodie beneficial to anyone who likes the great outdoors.
Like the feel and weight- cut is very big
Good value for long sleeve sun shirt. Wish the body was a bit longer in back. I ordered a size Medium Tall and it just covers my lower back when bending over or stretching. Cinching cord for the hood is a bit wonky and could be a better design to hold the cord from slipping and losing the tension. A button might solve it, like the Patagonia version. On the plus side, it is a third less expensive than patagucchi and blocks the sun just as well. Fabric weight is acceptable for warm temperatures, but could be lighter, again like the Patagonia version. The main thing is it works to save your hide! I am done with chemical sunscreens that irritate my skin and zinc sunscreens that end up on every surface you brush up against.
I absolutely love the original version of this hoodie. Literally my daily driver all year round for hiking, camping, and snowboarding. The large tall fits me so well (6'2 190 lbs) I can't express my love enough. Please go back to the original thumbhole design.
I love the complete Sahara line
Really liked the shirt, have in several colors , easier to wear than continuously applying sunscreen and bug spray, lightweight moisture wicking, appreciate the hood for additional sun coverage on back of neck after sweating on hikes dried easily, great that it came in tall sizes
I received this hoodie free from REI asking I try it out and then review it. It offers enough warmth if the temperatures are in the high 60 degree range, but in the 50’s I was cold even with a short sleeve merino wool tee shirt worn underneath. I am not sure why one would need a hoody to keep one’s ears warm in cold temperatures, when your torso would be shivering in those same temperatures. The fabric is clingy, without really having a shape when I put it on.
