Rated 5 out of 5 by from delicious better version of the freeze dried prepared meals. Relatively low in sodium. Low on ingredients, you can pronounce everything on it. I bought the supplemental pack to add to soups for added flavor and nutrition. They cook quick unlike regular dried beans so little to no presoaking is neeed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best I have found These are great tasting meals. I find I can beef them up by adding 1/4 cup of rice in the begining and stretch it for up to two more people. doing this requires adding additional seosonings. I cook them right in my original jetboil boil for 5 and let stand for 5 depending on altitude.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rejoice! I really loved these soups on my last backpacking trip. I would add a little water to the bags in the early afternoon, reseal the package, give it a good shake to let all the spices mix up, and come dinner time it often required only bringing the soup to a boil to be ready for consumption. So easy and tasty. I recommend also bringing some salt as I found a couple of the soups needed a little extra. My only complaint: the servings sizes are wholly underestimated. Each package claims to have 4 servings each. Each of those servings are too small and too low in calories (some had only 20-60 calories/serving) for anyone doing much physical activity. So I ate a whole package to myself for dinner (and after one especially active day on the trail even had two!). You could also add some rice, noodles, or another starch to the recipes to add some bulk but then you'd probably want to add more spices. Overall I am so happy with this purchase and I'm definitely going to continue to buy this brand for all my future backpacking trip. It's nice to have healthy, nourishing, tasty recipes when you've spent a long day on the trail and I'm happy I found something to fit that criteria. I hope REI will start to carry more of their products!

Can you please list the varietues of soup in this package. Is each package 4 servings at 2/3 cup each? Are there more then one bag of each variety?

Asked by: taking
Yes, each package makes approximately 4 servings at 2/3 cups each. The Trail Ready Gourmet Soup and Chili Pack INCLUDES: (2) Garden Veggie Chickenish Soup (2) Unbelievable Black Bean Chili (2) Southwest Style Mixed Bean Chili (2) Mama Mia Italian Vegetable Soup (2) Creamy Good Corn Chowder (2) Verylicious Veggie Chili (1) Hearty Texas Beefish Stew (1) Super Savory Split Pea Soup (1) Greek Lentil Soup with Quinoa (1) Captain John's Navy Bean Soup (1) Great Northern Bean Stew, and (1) Beefish Quinoa with Mushrooms DIRECTIONS: (Camp Stove) Add mix and 2 cups of water to the pot. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes. Cover, and let stand an additional 5 minutes. Serve and enjoy! BACKPACKING NOTE: Mix can be pre-soaked prior to cooking to reduce the need for fuel. Just open the pouch and pour in a half-cup of water and reseal. When you arrive at your campsite, empty the contents into the pot with the additional water and heat to desired temperature. For extreme experiences with no fuel, you can just soak and eat the contents without cooking.
