I'm on my 3rd pair of these and I'd give them a 5 for comfort and functionality but a 2 for durability. I hike and run about 100 miles a month on average and I've yet to get more than 2-3 months out of each pair. I tend to hike/run very rugged trails, but isn't that what these are for? It seems like they might be best for somebody who is primarily using well-maintained, less technical trails where they will last longer. It's too bad because my feet really love the shoes, but I can't afford to buy 4-5 pairs of these a year. I'm going to have to switch to something else when I'm through with this latest pair.
I was hesitant to even try on a North Face product but an REI sales rep encouraged it. These are great shoes. I've had them for 5 months and wear them 5 days a week to work at a nature preserve where I hike 1-2 miles, 2-3 days a week as well as running around the office and visitor center. They are comfortable right out of the box. I am headed out on a 30 mile 3 night backpacking trip and when inspecting my shoes I noticed the sole is starting to come up in two spots. This is the reason I took off a star. I was hoping they would last a year.
Although I used to do a lot of trail running, I haven't used these shoes for that, so I can't comment. I bought them for general hiking around on dirt trails etc. and also just as a more rugged tennis shoe. I love them! They are so comfortable, especially for someone who likes a wide toe box. Something about them makes them feel very supportive and yet they are not heavy. I didn't know North Face made running shoes & was pleasantly surprised!
I wore these shoes on my first trail race. It was wet and 3" water on the trail. These shoes held out for a mille. Then my feet got wet. but the water came out right away. As compared to my rain boots that trapped water in the shoes. I uses KT tape on my arches and ankles. I had no blisters even after having run in the rain and water logged areas. I barely felt any rocks or pebbles. I am interested to see how durable they are.
Since getting these I have gone on many long walks and a mountain hike and I have to say I LOVE THESE SHOES. They are super comfortable and supportive. I wore them on a steep, rocky hike and my feet felt great the whole time. I currently wear them daily while walking the dog ( 4 mile walk) and they are prefect. I recently wore them in the rain and my feet stayed dry. It's also nice to wear them and not have my feet get wet in damp grass or morning dew grass. Well made and sturdy. They fit well with a thick sock.
This is a comfortable shoe with good padding. It is flexible in the forward stride which is something I really was looking for as so many shoes that are made with Gore Tex and very rigid. I found them comfortable right out of the box. Another thing I needed was a toe box that would not squeeze or pinch my arthritic toes. There are perfect for that.
I wanted something that was stable, but also had water protection. These shoes are comfortable right from the start and require very little break in time. They supported my pronation during both a 7 and 9 hour hike. They've also come in handy for walking the dogs when there is just an inch or so of snow - my feet stay dry and warm and I get good traction with them. I recommend these to others!
I've been running in these shoes for almost a month and love them! Very comfortable and hold up through all conditions- dry, muddy, cold, wet. The gore tex sole is impressive. I ran 8 miles in 15°F and 3 inches of snow. Had to cross a couple streams and I was worried about getting my feet wet and freezing. These shoes kept me mostly dry and warm. Very happy with them so far!
Bought these two days before a trekking trip to Peru with not much time to break them in, which I was concerned about, and they were still great! No issues at all! The support on these shoes are great and I felt very supported in these. I even took a minor fall on the hike and the shoes kept me sturdy to avoid any injury. Will def use for future endeavors!
I tried on a number of waterproof shoes for the Pacific Northwest rainy Winter, and these were by far the most comfortable. They are perfect the first day, very supportive, allow my slightly wider feet to have total toe spread.I use them for both trail hiking and general walking. I use orthodics in them. Wish they made more colors.
