For boots: Add one half size to your street shoe size. You should be able to slip one finger behind your heel when you are standing up with the boot unlaced and your toes touching the front. If the boot is too short, your toes will get smashed walking downhill. Too long and your heel will slide up and down and give you blisters.

These are the best trail shoes I have ever owned. I have been using them in very rough and steep terrain, in the Hill Country in Texas and in Mexico and the grip of the soles is amazing; the cushioning is very comfortable; the support on the foot is strong and the weight, considering the toughness of these shoes is very light. The only problem is that the conversion table from European number to American size shoe, is rather inaccurate. I use size 10, which in the equivalent table is 43.5, but I actually had to get size 44.5. But as far as performance I would buy another pair in a heartbeat, the only "problem" is that they are also very durable.
This is a sturdy, sharp well built shoe that is most definitely made for elves. I thought upsizing would do the trick as some reviews suggested, however my ' normal ' feet didn't seem to agree. These are very, very narrow. The left shoe even seemed tighter than the right as I even measured my feet at REI to double check why the left was so much more crowded than the right. There isn't room in the toe box for any wiggle room so I returned them.
Loved this shoe. Very comfortable, no break in period, water proof. But after two months I had larch chunks of the sole pealing off. Started off as jus the sharp edges of the aggressive lugs, but quickly became entire lugs. At least REI let me exchange them for another shoe! Would have been five stars head the sole held up.
This is a terrific design for a trail running shoe however I've tried two sizes but found the general fit way too narrow. This must be build on a European last which is more narrow than north American last. Have to send this back but so wanted this to be my travel and work out shoe as it would have been perfect for mixed street/trail runs.
I love La Sportiva products, but unfortunately, I had to return these shoes. They were way too tight. Not because I bought too small a size but because they hugged my feet around their circumference very tightly. And I have really narrow feet.
These are some of the most comfortable shoes of any kind that I have ever worn. They are euro sizes and do "hug" your feet a bit, yet are very light. A 1/2 size bigger as suggested and they are perfect!
Needed good hiking shoes for strenuous day hikes, but something that could be utilized on multi-day hikes with full pack, if needed. I already have a pair of La Sportiva hikers and noted REI's Labor Day Sale, where they were profiled. I bought them, have used them on 2-3 hikes since then, and am considering taking them on a multi-day backpacking trip in Zion in October. I love them!
Nevermind the fact that I found these at a local REI garage sale for over half off, these are by far my favorite heavier duty hikers. I wear other shoes for mountain running in dry conditions but these have been perfect for just about everything else. They excel in those all-day hikes and backpacking, especially when you need something waterproof. The rubber used for the sole is nice and tacky, which I love, and those that expect them to be bulletproof are a bit misguided. So yes, even though there are quite a few chucks eaten up from scree sliding, the sole still remains as tacky as ever, and that is just the sole. The upper doesn't show the same signs of wear as the sole and the waterproofing is still intact after a full season of abuse. I do have a wider foot, so it took a little bit longer than I liked to get this shoe broken in, but now that they are broken in, they feel great. La Sportiva sizing also runs small, so be sure to try them on before you buy them. These will definitely one of the front runners for my next pair...not looking forward to having to retire these!
Shoe is adequate.. Lacks cushioning in front pad area.. Bottom wearing even so far.. Overall quality good.
This is my first pair of Sportivas. Originally I always wore Asolo, only the soles peeled off from both shoes and Asolo refused to make good or offer me refund for their defective merchandise. A knowlwgible sale's staff recommended I try this shoe. I hesitated at first due to its high selling price being charged, plus size I wanted not in stock, meant I had to order them, wait longer until I could try on my actual pair, only to learn Sportivas run extremely small, size 11 ordered did not fit, meant I had to return them at store, reorder again for second time and purchase next 2 additional up sizes to insure correct fit. I finally chose size 12.5. And had to return the other smaller unwanted pair. First day I wore them while out walking on level terrain I dangerously found myself slipping and sliding over several hard moist surfaces, wood decks, slate, small boulders etc, caused me safety concerns for these shoes.. A week later slowly being broken in I'm still wearing them, slippage not as frequent or noticeable, foot support is very good, way way more comfortable than Asolo or my Merrills. I wear theses wih inner soles added for extra comfort. They are water proof & stylish but become hot to wear all day long as I wear them for work and work outside. Overall, I am glad I purchased them this being my first Spotiva experience. On technical note they appear to be well made, provide good foot support and I would recommend. GTX version.
