Very nice tire with excellent road grip

I'm running the 700x23's on Hed Ardennes SL wheels which have a very wide internal rim width. The rim gives the 23's the effective width profile of a 25 when inflated. I came from Michelin Pro Race's and the Conti Grand Prix 4 Season tires. So far I have about 500 miles on these with no issues. It really comes down to the type of riding you do for whether you would choose this tire or the Conti Grand Prix 4 Season. The 4 Season will wear a bit less, but from my experience it also does not quite grip the way this tire does. If you run these on a wide rim like the He'd Belgium+ or the Ardennes at around 85-90 psi these tires are just glued to the road. Most of my riding is in the hills and mountains surrounding Boulder and Golden, CO. Great combo of comfort and grip, this is one of the best rain tires I have ridden as far as grip, and it really gives confidence when you are doing fast downhill alpine type descents.

First ride after installation gave me a flat tube

Bought tire and was installed in the store. Took it for a ride on the streets at Atlanta Streets Alive, after riding 6 miles got a flat. I had a vittoria prior to this and put over 1500 miles and never got a flat. Maybe this is just bad timing, but I felt the tires didn't offer any puncture protection. Definitely very soft and squishy. On the plus side, road grip is excellent. My braking power improved a lot and cornering felt much better. I liked the ride quality but would not put my faith on this tire.

Best in Class--No Better Road Bike Tire Sold Today

You will be King of the Road with these tires. Absolutely incredible performance. These tires are the top of the food chain--all the rest are below these in quality. If you have a few extra dollars-treat yourself to the best in technology. These tires grip like mad--like suction cups. Lean you bike over through the turns with confidence. I ride them at 35-40mph downhill around sharp curves with confidence. Extremely light weight. Extremely durable: 800 miles + so far on Los Angeles Glass and debris filled streets, pothole, wires, etc. and no puncture. Yea, a few light cuts to the rubber--but what do you expect riding in the dirty city. Wear has been very good, but only 800 miles on it thus far. I expect to get at least 2000 to 2500K out of them. I know these are expensive, but very few people get to ride the Continental 4000S tires in their lifetime, try to be one of them and make your friends and family proud when you reach the podium (or the Bagel Shop for lunch.). I run the 25 x 700. Thank you REI for selling such a cutting edge top of the line bicycle tire.

3000 Miles and still going strong!

I put these on last year and have over 3000 miles on them. I can't remember the last time I had a flat on them... I'm sure I have, but definitely not like what I've had in the past. These offer excellent puncture protection and I've been very satisfied with them. Actually, the last flat was a pinch flat on a gravel grinder route.. But that was my fault because my pressure was too low. Ended up damaging the edge of the tire itself, but it's still running strong... These are my favorite tires so far. Might go up to a 28mm when it's time for a new set...

Fantastic durability and low low roll resistance

I have used Continental 4000 S II tires for 5-6 years now and I am extremely pleased with both the durability and low rolling resistance of these tires. Pictured below is the rear tire on my Felt Z3 bike with better than 3200 miles. You can see that I still have usable tread wear indicator dimples left and I have gotten up to 4500 miles a set previously. Cost is a bit high but well worth it.

Excellent Grip, No Flats

I saw the one other review about getting a flat quickly and felt compelled to write a counter-review. I've had mine for 18 months and have put ~600 miles on them without a single flat. They grip well in all conditions and have held up superbly.

Don't believe the hype

These are the tires i run outdoors for 3 years now. I ride 280mile a week. They are great untill they're not! A Brand new tire less than 200 miles blew out on me today. I have had tires with under 500 do the same. If these are NOT on sale for under $45 don't buy em! I suggest any good road tire on sale instead they're all the same. Pump these tires up before every ride, they get flat spots FAST!

Who Doesn't Love Contis?

Many many years ago I loved them as a racer. I just started riding again and they are fantastic. Running 28cs on a road bike makes the ride just that much better.

Speed vs Safety

These are definitely fast tires, I do not recommend them for everyday riding though. I had a sidewall blowout today immediately after crossing this finish line. I was extremely lucky I had come to a stop. After some research online I discovered sidewall blowouts are common with this tire. I have put around 800 miles on mine before this happened. My advice is use these on race day only and have a more durable set for everyday riding.

I am glad that I picked these. I was was looking for new tires that were great all around tires. I only wish that they were a little more puncture resistant. The grip and the ride is excellent.
