Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great sun protection! I have an earlier version of this shirt (maybe 4 years old) and there are features in it that I miss. This one has the full zippered vent on each side of the front but it is missing the full zippered vent in the back that my other one has. I got good air flow through the side but not so much with this new one. I like that this one has longer sleeves and the fabric is lighter weight. The chest pockets are shallow...not sure what they are good for. Maybe lip balm, except it is right where my pack straps are. I like the 'hidden' zippered pocket on the front. Overall, it is still a good shirt and I would buy it again. I just wish it had the original flow-through side vent. Then it would be great!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointed in this shirt I bought this shirt for an extended trip to Portugal, thinking it would be good for trekking, as well as serving as my 'dress-up' shirt. My complaints: the polyester fabric was never really comfortable: stiff and rather scratchy when it was cold, didn't seem to "breathe" when I was hot. The other complaint: WHEN, OH WHEN, WILL REI OFFER MORE OPTIONS IN PETITE SIZING?!! It's one thing to have to roll up the sleeves because they are always too long. It's another thing when the tapered waist hits a short woman at the upper hip, pulling laterally and preventing the shirt from laying properly. The short wearer always looks poorly. Why this ongoing disregard for your shorter members?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved the little top pockets I just got back from 10 days hiking in Utah with this shirt. The two 'small' top pockets work well for me. One of them fits my Sony camera perfectly. The other one is great for lipgloss, key, whatever. I also love the little tab that works great for carrying sunglasses. I often have to take my sunglasses off to peer through binos, so this tab came in soooo handy. I purchased the white so of course I had to handwash it quite a few times in my hotel room. But it washed well and was almost always dry the next day. If a little moisture remained, I just used my hairdryer on it a bit. It also has side pocket, which I rarely used, but one can never complain about too many pockets and it doubles as a vent. Very happy with this product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice fit and better breathability than expected Bought two of these shirts hoping they would be versatile enough for extremely warm and also cool trips, and wondered if it would breathe well, since it felt a bit heavier on than the same type shirt made by Columbia. Its a great shirt that breathed better than I expected. The navy and purple are a bit hot in 90+ degrees and high humidity, but I like the fit and weight enough, I'm ordering it in white as well. Its very very hard for me to find shirts with sleeves that are long enough, but these are. Its also cut down in the back to cover the behind slightly (thank you REI!!!) I'm looking forward to testing it a bit more in cooler weather this winter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Shirt This shirt really keeps the sun off of you. I burn in the shade with 100 SPF lotion on within one half to one hour. This shirt is not only cool, but has kept me from burning!!! I really like the hand covers!! The neck cover, though, tends to stick up, but that's OK. Though I normally wear a small to medium in shirts and I purchased a large in this shirt so that I'd have a little more room to allow in cooling air.Overall, I highly recommend this item to keep the sun off your skin!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from new shirt not quite the same as older. I have had this shirt for 10 years, still looks great, hand washed, no dryer, no nubs. Been through the grand canyon, multiple hikes, rafting trips. Weather from 20 degrees to 112. Just get it wet for the hot days. Great sun protection still. But went to get a new one, and pocket is smaller, and the collar is not doubled, to get extra protect the back of the neck from sun. Look to the newer reviews for purchasing, not the older ones. Wish the old style was back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thorough Sun Coverage Plus Sun Cuffs! In sun-intensive Colorado, I wear a long-sleeved, button-down shirt when hiking, climbing and sometimes bike touring and running errands. And this is one of my favorites - it's the only one I've found with back-of-the-hand coverage w/ its sun cuffs. Overall, it's highly effective in keeping the sun off my skin (so less sunblock and I stay cooler). And I Iove its vibrant color (orchid or fuchsia).

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too Tight Sleeves Tried this on in the store yesterday. I admire many of the design features, and prefer the fabric to several of the others I tried. But when I rolled up the sleeve to test the feature of fastening it up with a tab, the sleeve was so tight I could not get it over my elbow! I was trying on a size large, which fit nicely in all other ways, and I do not have abnormally large arms or elbows. Actual measurement around my elbow at the largest point, arm held straight, is 9 5/8". Went away disappointed without buying a hiking shirt.

I used to love this shirt, taking one on hundreds of trail miles. But you're not making my size anymore. I wear an REI 2XL (about a size 18). Do you guys know that there are a lot of size 16+ women on the trail? Why are we suddenly persona non grata?

Asked by: LizF
I wear a 1X and am running into the same issues. These were my favorite shirts and when I went to purchase more of them they no longer have those sizes. So frustrating. There is SO little available for women size 16+, and this was one of the few and definitely my favorite. Extremely frustrating that even REI is starting to eliminate us from their clientele!
