Rated 5 out of 5 by from 13 more fl oz. than the 27 fl. oz. I bought the 27 fl. oz Klean Kanteen Stainless-Steel Wide-Mouth Water Bottle years ago from REI and loved it. Bought this 40 fl. oz. and I love it more. It still fits neatly in my backpack but the added capacity really helps on an outdoor trek. Besides the extra capacity, I also like the extra width. The extra width allows it to sit more securely on small stoves, without the possibility of falling over. The stainless-steel construction is rugged and does not leave a weird metal taste in the water.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Safest/most useful eco friendly bottle I bought this because steel is the safest to eat/drink from, and you can boil water in it to kill microbes. The bottle is very high quality, the wide mouth makes it easy to put ice cubes in. The steel will hold up through use and boiling for longer than I will be alive. Fits perfectly in a Vargo TiLite 750 mug for compact minimalist mess kits.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bottle My girlfriend bought me this bottle before i was about to go hiking of the AT for just 3 nights. I have to say i am very pleased with this bottle with its capacity along with it's reliability. I have always been an eco person so this bottle was really the one for me. I was getting so tired of looking for my camelbak or my plastic water bottle and finding warm water. Even if this had not been given to me I think that the money is well worth it for a bottle that you can use for the rest of your life. I would also recommend buying an insulating pouch for it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for my travels I have the 40 and the 64 oz. models. The 64 stays in the fridge with filtered water for home use and the 40, which is easier to carry, goes with me traveling. Love it for convenience in my kayak. I purchased reusable non-plastic containers to replace my Nalgene bottles. Reusable containers are the right thing to do and using food grade stainless steel fits well with my health conscious thinking. Nice product, great construction and well thought out...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid construction I use this product everyday but wanted a container I could take backpacking and boil water in too. This fits the bill!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite water bottle! The stainless Kleen Kanteen bottles are now my husband's and my favorite water bottles. He likes the wide mouth and the large capacity of this bottle. I may actually prefer the slightly smaller bottles with the less-wide mouth, but I like them all. They don't seem heavy to me even though they are steel. I have taken them hiking, cycling, paddling, caving, and to work. I have not yet dropped one so I can't comment on that. For cycling, Kleen Kanteen makes a bike cage for the 27-oz bottles. The ancient bottle cage I had for soft plastic water bottles did not fit the Kleen Kanteen bottles. You probably want the 27-oz size for cycling. There are also insulated models available(in smaller sizes), although I have not yet seen them at REI.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well worth the money Sturdy and lightweight. The wide mouth opening makes it easy to clean with a brush and also fits a silicone guard to regulate the flow of water.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from no more plastic taste or smell What a relief. I was becoming hesitant to leave water in my translucent 32oz Nalgene bottle for fear of having that dreaded plastic smell and taste in my water. No longer. I can leave water in this bottle and not care when I will drink from it again, knowing that my water will taste like water and nothing else.Downside? Why only 3 stars? Because it costs almost [$] for a water bottle. We all know that the product REI sells is expensive from almost any source- try to find this at a significantly lower price elsewhere- but, even as good of a product as it is, it's overpriced. Should've just bought an old army canteen for about the cost of a plastic 32oz Nalgene bottle. Also, because the bottom isn't plastic-covered like my Starbucks coffee cup, this bottle will make a louse, tinny noise when I sit it on any hard surface, e.g. a wooden table.

Does anyone know if Hydro Flask is a better product than this? I am torn between Klean Kanteen and the Hydro Flask brand, and I would like to know if anyone has personal experience on which is better.

Asked by: CamelGirl
The 40 ounce Hydro Flask bottle is insulated and will do a better job of keeping liquids both cold and hot. The 40 ounce Klean Kanteen is not insulated.

I do long term camping and sometimes I have to sterilize my own water. Often times that requires boiling it. How will this container hold up to being placed in hot coals?

Asked by: Essential Camper
Since Klean Kanteen bottles are single walled, they are not intended for use with hot liquids. They are also equipped with a plastic top that would not stand up to the heat from hot coals. We do not recommend using this bottle for boiling water in hot coals.

Is the inside wall of bottle lined? Is the top BPA free? Can you replace lid gasket? I own this bottle......I have drop bottle and creased the metal bottle wall. The bottle now has an odor. Do I need to replace lid? Gasket?

Asked by: cas1849
The inside of the Klean Kanteen has 18/8 food-grade stainless steel and has been Electropolished. It does not have any type of lining. The exterior portion of the lid is BPA-free polypropylene, and inside is stainless steel. We sell replacement lids which are available in the link below:
