Face fabric is ridiculously sensitive

I have had this coat for about a year and a half, only wearing it around the city during winter. The bottom of the coat started developing little holes through which the down was leaking. This happened from a few months of use, solely from the jacket rubbing against my pants as I walked around. Sent it in for warranty, but apparently that was not covered, as it is considered "normal wear and tear". In my opinion, there's nothing normal about a supposedly premium jacket not lasting more than 2 seasons of such non-challenging use.

Very warm and comfortable.

I see a lot of bad reviews for this jacket and it's not fair. I had this jacket for 4 years, wore it every winter.. even at work at the gas station. It was my first Marmot product and wore it in NYC blizzards and I was really surprised how warm and comfortable it was. If you are a sloppy person, you're gonna destroy it because this wasn't made to resist sloppiness.

DO NOT BUY THIS!

My husband bought this about 2 months ago, and while it is very warm and comfortable - within in a couple wears small holes started to appear in the outer fabric and feathers started to leak out. Now there are several large gashes and feathers are pouring out. We thought “no big deal” if it’s just a few small holes that could be repaired but this is absolutely ridiculous. It’s understood that it’s a more fragile style of jacket in general but it seems like now you can barely take it off it’s hook and put it on without ripping. Hoping marmots warranty will cover this and that we can pick a new style of jacket all together.

Thin/Delicate Fabric

I'd like to start this review off by saying that this is a very warm coat. However, the overall quality is less than to be desired. I have owned this coat for only two seasons and worn it around 75-100 times at the most. It is already starting to show "wear and tear" from just wearing it on my walk to school a few months out of the year, including open holes that down is now falling out of (see attached photographs). I'm pretty bummed because I did a lot of research before buying this coat and everything led me to believe it would be a quality item I could enjoy for years. The outside fabric is extremely thin, and unfortunately very delicate. I have not the slightest inclination of when these holes would have been created, but they keep appearing. If you are thinking about purchasing this coat, I would be very cautious with it, as it has trouble holding up to everyday use.

Best winter coat I’ve ever owned!

This jacket is the perfect warmth, fill, fit and function. For the past four years, whether it’s the Catskills Mountains of upstate NY or Manhattan, this has kept me warm through all the winters, even on the coldest day two years ago, -23 with the wind chill walking to a Broadway show, only a few blocks but literally couldn’t feel my face, but my body was still nice and toasty! This past winter, I noticed some thinning of the material especially on the arms, as well as some feathers starting to come out. Did some sewing and small repairs, but it’s time for a new one— and the green has had its day in the sun. Going for a black one now. Can’t recommend this coat enough. It’s not long on the body like a parka would be, but that’s what I like about it, you can move around easily and aren’t encumbered by bulk. Trust me, you’ll love this coat, buy it! P.S I’m 6’1” 155/160 lbs with a 31/32 waist and a Medium fits perfectly.

Excellent coat - could use improvement on wrists

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My older coat of the same model was worn out and had construction paint / other materials blemishing its surface so I went for a new one to wear around town. Overall warm as described, and weighs the exact same as the same model coat I purchased 4 years ago. I love the fit, length, and bulk of this coat. My one star deduction comes from the sleeve openings around the wrist. For some reason, my new coat has sharp edges around the area where the velcro meets. It pushes up past the remaining coat material and I'm constantly feeling it dig into my wrists. I'm hoping it disappears with wear and washing, but it is not comfortable for now.

All around great garment

There are lots of down hoodies out there. And they are at various price points. This one is near the middle of the ones I checked out. I have a few Marmot products which have all been well made and highly serviceable. Even though I was mildly spooked by some reviewers’ opinions that The Guide wasn’t warm enough for them, I made the plunge. A month later I have no regrets. It’s plenty warm for me (a week in Big Sky, MT was a good test). Okay, this is probably not your all out expedition parka. But short of that it does the job. Lots of nice features: cozy pocket liners, 2 way zipper, generous hood, and excellent sewing. And if it were any warmer, when would I wear it?

it packs into its own pocket

When i read the Q&A before buying this jacket i was disappointed to read that it did not pack into its own pocket. After buying it though i was surprised to find out that it does pack into the inside right pocket. It even has a hang loop. It packs up to some thing the size and shape of a football. The rest of the jacket is top notch. very warm and it has all the features you would want. The only feature i thought was weird is they put the cinch for the bottom of the coat in the front pockets. It took awhile to realize it was even there.

Favorite winter coat!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I stumbled across this down coat and it was exactly what I was looking for, so I looked up the women's version of the jacket and prepared to buy it, only to find that the women's version of this jacket does not have down defender (and isn't even any cheaper than the "men's" jacket). Do better Marmot, this honestly made me pretty sad. It is a perfect winter coat though, just remember that features like water resistance aren't gender specific.

Comfortable Warmth

Have had a large for about 6 weeks in SE Michigan weather including light precip. I'm 6-1, 170 and size is perfect. Very comfortable and hem adjusts to allow easy layering. Feel I can say with a fleece and base layer zero F or lower will be no problem. Now as for comfort this is a 10. And the hood as a person who has camped a good deal is by FAR the warmest I've ever used. Looks good, feels good, and very warm. Have not had 1 second of buyers remorse. As for the ever present question of down leakage. I've had none. I've put a Weneha Rain Gore Tex shell over it and it gets a full click warmer and then seems like winter armor that could handle anything. Did a lot of research before I spent my $, if considering it's awesome!
