Exceeds expectations!
I was given a Hydro Flask a year ago and my immediate family slowly acquired a Hydro Flask for themselves. We all loved them so much that we got each family member for our reunion in Acadia National Park. Only regret is not enough colors in the larger jugs. I like "Matchy Matchy"
Best Water Bottle I have used
Over the years I have used aluminum water bottles from Sigg and Laken. This Hydro Flask stainless steel water bottle is by far the best that I have used. The mouth design is very comfortable to drink from. I use the bottle only for cold water and the stainless steel never affects the taste. The insulated design works well and I am frequently surprised that the water is still cold hours later when I expected it to have reached room temperature. The outer coating on the bottle provides a little friction making it less likely to drop. I also love the 5 percent back charity donation that goes with each bottle! I have already bought a second bottle so that I can have one at work and one at home.
Keeps cool for the entire day
I usually use Nalgene bottles for hydration because of it's larger capacity however once the water turns warm it's just not as refreshing. Although the Hydro Flask has a smaller capacity it's ability to retain temperature is amazing. I recently went on a day trip and the water stayed refreshingly cold for approximately 7.5 hours. Every sip was a joy to drink. It really does surprise you how cold the water will keep. The other great thing about the Hydro Flask is the fact that it doesn't "sweat" at all. I almost love this feature as much as the temperature control. Nothing irritates me more than a wet bottle that now attracts sand/dirt. Plus the coated version of the Hydro Flask has a really nice matte texture on the outside that increases grip. Great product.
Excellent
have had the bottles less than a week but it is one of those items that meets all expectations. I read the reviews, with skepticism, before purchasing. Since purchasing, wow! I have not negatives to say - I purchased for an all-day water container while in my office. My only regret is that I underestimated it! I put ice in it first thing in the morning and, have had to make more trips to the water fountain than planned because the ice doesn't melt!! No kidding, the I put about five large cubes in it to start; about 30-hours later, all the ice had melted. I highly recommend this product. My only request would be that they make a wide-mouth in the 20~or so ounce capacity!
Bad weld
I received my brand new Hydro Flask the other day and I noticed the weld on the inside bottom was defective (potential for rust). Wrote the company to let them know and I was told it does fall under warranty, however I have to pay return shipping back to them for an item that should never have made it out of the warehouse. They need a QA team and I don't think I'll be buying another Hydro Flask.
Good heat retention
On a recent project, I measured the heat loss on various size stainless steel insulated containers (Thermos bottles, coffee cups, etc.). I started by filling each container to its capacity with 200 degree water. Below are the temperatures for containers in the 16-24 oz. range after a 3 hour & 10 hour period - numbers shown after the item are: temp. after 3 hrs and temp. after 10 hrs. The list includes this item as well as the others listed. I also included a pretty much standard (larger size) 32 oz. Thermos bottle and a "no-name" 16 oz. insulated container with sealing cap & cup/lid that I got free for subscribing to a magazine for comparison. Items are listed in order of the content temperature after 10 hours. 32 oz Thermos 193,178 24 oz Thermos Direct Drink 180, 152 16 oz Thermos Backpack bottle 177, 143 16 oz No-Name publication give-away bottle 178, 142 21 oz Hydro Flask 177, 139 16 oz Thermos Cup rotating seal 169, 130 20 oz Kleen Kanteen 167, 125 24 oz Oxo Good Grips LiquiSeal 150, 104 16 oz Kleen Kanteen 151, 103 16 oz Starbucks Cup 144, 100 Over time, heat loss occurs through the double stainless walls with a vacuum between them. However, most heat escapes due to poor design, location, and sealing of the lid and/or stopper. Specifically the lid or stopper should seal at or below the upper end of the double wall vacuum section of the stainless portion of the container and the lid/stopper should have some kind of insulation itself, if only an internal air space. For instance the stainless steel Starbucks cup itself has pretty good insulation qualities on its own and the lid seals just at the upper end of the double wall vacuum section. But the cap is a single piece of plastic that just bleeds heat off the surface of the liquid inside. The Oxo is even worse in that it has the same lid configuration the Starbucks cup has but in addition has a band of about an inch between where the lid seals and where the vacuum insulation starts – BIG heat loss here.
Ice Cold Water in Blistering Heat
Who on God's green earth ever thought a plastic water bottle was a good thing for bike riding? No matter how much ice you put in a plastic bottle after just 20 minutes of bike riding in Houston summer heat you will be drinking plastic tasting hot water. I love my Hydro... ice cold water, even after a 2 hour bike excursion in the blistering summer heat around Houston, TX. I cover my 21oz with a neoprene sleeve and it fits tight in bicycle water bottle holder covered then carabiner hooked top loop to bike for extra security. Stays in place even offroading on my mountain bike. Just throw away your BPA bottle and join the 21st century.
Excellent temperature retention
I had an REI dividend and bought this to replace a stainless steel non-vacuum insulated bottle. I really liked my old bottle for biking, but on warm days the water would not stay cold for long even when completely filled with ice before leaving. This vacuum bottle keeps the water icy cold for hours and even through the night. It is identical in size to the old bottle and fits the bottle cage on my bike perfectly. The powdercoat finish is durable and has a grippy quality that makes it easy to hold. The bottle does not sweat on even the hottest days. The ONLY change I would suggest is that it come with a pull-up sippy cap, although the cap from my old bottle fit perfectly. A different cap would have rated 5 stars. Best money I've spent in a long time and the REI dividend was a bonus.
Careful with the Cap
This line of bottles is very efficient. Hot stays hot, cold stays cold. I have several sizes. The problems are: Caps break easily. If you use the loop to hang the bottle or drop the bottle on the cap it will break. I have resorted to buying spares from the manufacturer. Since you can't use the cap loop to hang the bottle there is nothing else to tie a lanyard to. There is no lip at the mouth like most bottles, so you cannot hang it by a noose around the neck of the bottle. You need to use a carrier of some sort to carry the bottle.
I love my Hydro.
I was given this as a gift, and it has been the best gift! One morning I made tea, and for some reason or another I didn't drink it in the morning. I was in my car and I looked down and saw that my hydro was in the cup holder. At that point I was sure my tea was cold, but I was thirsty. I took a sip and it was still hot! I was so pleasantly surprised! Ever since then, I carry my hydro everywhere. I have been trying to drink more water, and having my hydro has been the best thing for that goal. I love my ice water that will stay ice cold for the whole day! I am so about this product, I am looking into buying the 32oz and I know I won't be disappointed! #Godbless
