Sizing notes

All sizing is based on body measurements.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New Gold Standard for Packable Shell Background: I have used this product >1 year in rains (drizzle to downpour) with temps ranging from upper 30's to 90's F. Given its compactness it's always in my bag. This is my 4th shell ever and my most expensive to date. Pros: -Keeps my upper half dry -Light/compact -Portable, loop nice to clip onto bag -Great for daily PDX bike commute, hiking, to casual -Hood fits nicely under bike helmet Cons: -Lack of ventilation although it is more breathable than some of my former ventilated shells. Caveat: I generate heat and sweat perhaps more than the average human. -Limited pockets (understandable given its svelte design). -Cold temps (can fit only a couple thin layers underneath). Conclusion: Right on! Outdoor Research, keep up the good work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from awesome for motorcycle and camping this is the best jacket for rain i have ever purchased. breathability is real and works. no internal moisture build up and no rain penetrates. and it packs so small and is light. have had this for almost two years. it is durable and it love the hood and pull in the back to tighten around my head for full coverage. love the lime green color for night time visibility.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wind, Rain, Snow Protection PERFECTION! This is a MUST HAVE piece for any Spring/Fall and warmer winter excursions!! I have used this piece on 20,000+ft alpine climbs in Pakistan to windy cragging days in the desert. The Helium packs into its own pocket, weighs nothing, and even has a harness clip off loops so there are no excuses not to bring this piece with you EVERYWHERE you go! I promise you will not regret this crucial piece of gear!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from sausage I love everything about this item but the sizing. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars is that their sizing is small. I take XL and anything thus far has fit perfectly. I can't remember a time that that it was too small (if anything it was bigger) I bought the XL and it is shall we say….snug. My suggestion if you want to take it, is to buy 1 size larger than you normally take so you have a bit of room to move. I kinda felt like a big burrito. Other than that it what it says it is, a very light breathable rain jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best rain shell I have owned to date This is my ultra-light quiver shell. I take this everywhere all year long. It compresses to an incredibly small size, so its in my bag where ever I go for rain or snow. In the winter, Ill toss it over my OR Transcendent puffy to keep warm and dry on the street, on belay, or on a speedy ascent on a weekend crag. In the Spring and summer, its the perfect weight to keep dry without sweating your clothes out. Ill keep it in my climbing or light hiking pack, and will throw it on mid-route when an unexpected rain comes through. Pairs exceptionally well with the OR Ferrosi hoody for Spring and Fall climbing when a blast of wet cold can shoot in on you. It looks great, so it goes with me on the town or to Seattle sports events where rain is a constant factor. It has no frills and or basic features, but that's the whole point of a bomber, ultra-light rain jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Nice Jacket 1. This is a very nice and light weight waterproof jacket. 2. This jacket runs VERY small. I normally wear an XL but ordered an XXL for layering. The XXL barely fit with just a t-shirt. It is avery good jacket but order 2 sizes larger if you want to layer. Unfortunately, I had to return mine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Never Leaves My Side This rain jacket goes with me anywhere and everywhere. I take it on the trail with me for a 5 month long trip or a day hike. I take it with me anytime I ride my motorcycle just in case it starts to rain. I keep it with me when I fish, anytime I go to a concert, anytime I go spend the day in DC. When your jacket rolls up to the size of your fist why not keep it with you all the time just in case? When you need it you'll be happy to have it.

A couple of folks mentioned that this runs small in the reviews. It seems that the concern was with the XL size in particular, though. Can anyone tell me if the vertical length seems true to size? Was it just the waist that ran a bit snug?

Asked by: Christopher
We talked to Outdoor Research about how the Outdoor Research Helium II Rain Jacket fits, they say it runs true to size. It is a snug-fitting jacket that is designed to be worn with only a t-shirt underneath, as it is for warm weather activities. We recommend using the size chart and ordering up one size if you want to layer under this jacket.

Do you anticipate getting more of the Lemongrass in stock anytime soon?

Asked by: Macwagen
The lemongrass color for the Helium II Rain Jacket should be available from REI in early 2017.
