Safely integrate your phone and training

I have one on my road bike and one on my cross bike, and no complaints about the way this mount holds and protects my phone. I recommend it to other riders a couple of times/month. Only concern is the "rubber band" retainer strap, which failed after a few months of use. The model with the paracord retainer has worked much longer with no signs of failure. Comes with a wide variety of high-quality mounting hardware for any application. Even includes foul weather gear for your phone.

Parts missing

Just like a previous review the nut and washer were missing. I intended to go to the hardware store and buy a nut with matching threads and a washer. But again as someone else mention the nut should fit into the plastic molded part. Just as it does for my extension to hold my Garmin touring bike computer. A cheap inexpensive manufacturing fix on the plastic part and better quality control to make sure all parts were included is required. Not worth the risk for the cost that we pay for phones these days. REI please open a few boxes and if parts are missing send them back to the manufacture and demand better quality control. I intend to return this to REI.

Great design, poor materials (3 units broke)

This is the third one of these I've gone through. They are solid, well designed, and hold the phone very securely. Also very ready to install. The giant caveat is the plastic locking mechanism that you need to rotate to secure the phone in place -- the knob has broken anywhere from 1 to 6 months after normal use on a road bike. Once that breaks, the phone will no longer be tightly held in the unit.

Falls apart, broke in less than a year

The idea is good, but the height and guide length is not long enough. Every time I put my phone in it, the guides come out of the base and it's hard to put together. The rubber band is all that keeps it together and a few weeks ago it broke. My phone is just over 6" with it's case, and now reading through the product description I can see that my phone was a little too long for this product. If the packaging had specified what models of Samsung Galaxy it worked with I wouldn't have bought this item. I think this was the only model our store carried. Regardless, I don't think the rubber band is a very durable design.

Would be nice product if rubber didn't dry out

Bought two of these and neither lasted a year due to the rubber bands drying out that pull the top into the bottom and hold phone in place. Wish they put more thought and use a better material for these parts. Bikes are stored in condition garage or basement when not in use and over winter. Both mounts deteriorated.

Perfect for the price

I was a little concerned I would't like this when I bought it but figured I'd give it a try anyways. If I didn't like it, I would just return it. I have a Galaxy S4 in an Otterbox Commuter case and it couldn't fit more perfectly. This thing isn't coming out. If it dos it's because I've probably had a pretty hard crash and even at that the mount would probably break first. Now I have easy access to my phone for controlling music, answering the phone and of course running my biking apps. Look forward to my first ride!

Don't buy this phone holder. I bought one and it broke but I liked the design so I bought another and within weeks it broke. I will not buy it again.

Locking mechanism prone to breaking

I have had now 3 of these mounts. I purchased one of them and the other two were manufacturer warranty replacements. Each and every one of them had the locking mechanism break within three months of usage. Yes, they do have a nice warranty program, but using it a lot is annoying.

Doesn’t hold up well to vibration.

I bought this for my son for Christmas, and it worked great on simple rides, but couldn’t handle serious mountain biking trails with lots of bumps, rocks, etc. The set screw that clamps the phone holder to the handlebar, would wiggle loose, and the holder would slide down, out of position. I’m done dinking around with this product on the trail, and will be returning to REI today.
