Really cool accessory for your Kingdom!
So I bought the CTG over the winter to go with my Kingdom 4. I just went camping with it for the first time and thought I would add some photo's in use and stuff like that. It went up the first time, no problem, no instructions. It goes up easier with 2 people but could be done by one. Once up you can choose to guy it out if needed, we were along side a massive lake and was quite windy, so I opted to do so just in case. The interior was the perfect amount of extra room for your gear/toys/etc...I did buy 2 of the optional REI 6ft Tarp Poles to open one side up like an awning. Love it! At night you can drop the poles and zip it shut with everything inside. I would also like to add that the 6ft tarp poles fit inside the CTG carry bag, and that the TCG is very proportional to the K4. Great investment, and really completes the Kingdom tents. You will not be disappointed.
Gotta love the garage!
It's pretty much idiot proof, adds a bunch of space for storage/hanging out/pets/etc, and looks nice. It's simple to attach. One person can do it, 2 is better just for the convenience. Two zippers, 1 pole, 2 stakes and done.
Got a "K-8"...? Get the Tech Garage!!!
If you bought the Kingdom 8 Tent, you really own it to yourself the get this addition. While the tent does come with a vestibule attached to the rain fly, it really doesn't provide much space for additional gear or useful storage space. The Tech Garage does all the above and more. We recently went camping for the first time with our new "K-8" and the attached garage. The second day of the outing saw rain, rain, rain. The tent provided us with a cozy, dry retreat, and the garage allowed us a place to setup our kitchen. While the instructions for both the K-8 and the Garage cautioned against the use of open flamed lighting and cooking devices, with attention and careful placement, we were able to cook several meals safely and continue to enjoy the experience. When properly guyed, and with the addition of the garage, our tent was able to withstand winds gusting to over 20 knots + due to the aerodynamics the garage added. It also provided a great place to sit and relax, watching nature in rain or shine. Bottom line... get the garage: you won't regret it for a minute.
Well worth the $'s for add on space.
The included vestibule that comes with the Kingdom 8 is nice but the garage adds on serious space. I Bought 2 additional 8ft adjustible tent poles and use them to create an awning unzipping one of the garage doors. It was tricky figuring out how to,install it the first time. REI does not provide much in themway of directions and could make people happy by creating better "how-to" videos on their tent products.
Definately worth it.
With the fly not covering the entire Kingdom 6, I was drawn to the Connect Tech Garage. Though kind of put off by the name (garage), I was primarily interested in the complete coverage of my tent. It attached easily and included the same quality stakes as the tent. And as I'm getting older (read stiffer) it still makes an easy opening. With the awning held open by trekking poles and guys (neither included with the garage) then it's a shady place to relax.
2 years now and still truckin'
I got this expanison after buying the REI Hobitat 6 tent that connects to it. I've since upgraded to the Kingdom 6 and it fits with both fairly well. I've used it at 4 music festivals over the last 2 years and I'm bringing it to another one next week. The only 3 issues I can think of that could be draw backs would be the zipper getting caught and there's a bit of condensation in the morning or when it rains hard. I also wish it came with the REI tarp poles but I had to buy those separately (which is alittle misleading since one of the pictures for it shows it with the poles). However, it does keep upright while its attached correctly to the tent even with high winds.
Absolute PERFECTION
This addition is a MUST HAVE for any 2011 Hobitat or ANY 2012 Kingdom tent. I just wrote my review on my hobitat 4 tent and found myself absolutely raving more about the garage than the actual tent. I took a few trips with my hobitat tent prior to purchasing the garage. I received a few compliments about the tent by itself, but the ENVY did not come until the next time we went camping. I pitched the tent along with the new garage addition, and all my neighboring camping freinds came POURING in. Our garage instantly became the place to hang out. I had a small coleman 3000 btu portable heater that heated up the entire tent/garage. Everyone around us continuously joked about the luxurious penthouse suite he had set up in the middle of the woods. We comfortably fit 4 low chairs, the rei camp table, and an ice chest inside the garage. We cooked in it, ate in it, changed in it, read in it, and most definately relaxed in it. The garage makes the tent.... no matter what compatible tent you attatch it to, it will definately improve the camping experience. The only negative thing I have experienced with the garage is that it collected condisation at night. Not that big of a deal to me, but it was def something worth mentioning. I have used it with my hobitat 4 in both rainy and moderately strong winds. I am happy to say it performed well in both cases. You will be doing yourself the biggest injustice if you do not add this accessory to your tent. A small side note, if youve seen the video or pictures of the door being hung open with trekking poles, you will quickly realize you need to guy down the door to keep it open with the trekking poles. The first time i tried to do this, i didnt realize it couldnt be done with out guying the door up/down. AGAIN< A MUST HAVE ADDITION TO ITS COMPATIBLE TENTS!
It has all been said - I concur. Get it!
Everyone is right - if you have a compatible tent get this. Just buy it at the same time... you will want it. It is very useful rain or shine. The nitpick - yes, REI you should have included one more stake and a guyline for the top. I used reflective cord on mine since this is the one you will be tripping on in the dark... I know.
A must have for your Kingdome
Love the garage. Got a 4' plastic folding table from a blue label big box store and it is perfect for the end. I'm 6' 2" so I do wish it was a little taller. Also a couple loops inside to hang lights etc. would be a great addition. Overall makes a great porch, shady or dry spot depending on the weather. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money, you will not regret it.
This makes my tent a condo
This is a must for me and my wife in our Hobitat 4. We sleep on a tall queen air mattress and the garage gives us much needed space for our bags, cooler, changing area etc. We bought the extra poles to extend the fly, but have only used them once on a really sunny day at a campsite with little shade. We usually just roll the flaps up. The garage is a great place to put your cooler/chairs/firewood if you leave your site for a day hike. This is definitely worth it if you have a compatible tent.
