Just Right
I have paddled this little craft over 50 miles now. I was looking for an inflatable to help with logistics.I like to put my kayak in my BoB bike trailer pedal up the river road and float back down to my car. I did this on the Colorado out of Moab and the Jordan River near my home in Utah. This little kayak does the job. I also drag it around behind my bike to local lakes. Good workout all around. I really like the design of this kayak.the chances of this thing getting a puncture that would sink it are greatly diminished. It is an inflatable bladder surrounded by a skin that forms the frame of the kayak. Don't think rubber boat. I did buy the backbone add on and I would say that it is nice but not necessary, especially if you are a lighter person. I weight 190 lbs so I think it helps keep it more rigid, but on rivers I do not use it as recommended. I am 6'0" tall with 34" inseam. I can just fully extend my legs inside. Any taller and I would not fit. I just got the hand pump to inflate this. Works just fine. I can inflate it in 3 min. No need for a compressor. In fact a compressor would be more work than it is worth All around good boat for the money. I recommend it!!
Love my kayak!
I received this product last summer and used it about 7 times, and was so pleased with every aspect. I love that it is super fast to inflate (5 minutes for real!) and it very light to haul around. It is super stable and tracks really nicely. I used it, as did my daughter, and boyfriend, and it was very comfortable for all of our body types. The carrying case makes it very compact and it fits into the smallest of trunks. I am on the road for work, and it was so great to be able to bring my kayak with me locked safe in my trunk during the day/night, to use for exploring local lakes at the end of the work day.
Perfect kayak for me!
This is my first kayak, and it is easy to set up, handle/maneuver and stow. It's a bit tricky to get out of, but it's only my own aging body that is the problem, not the kayak. I am developing better techniques with every outing. My only cons are that there is not much storage for more than a one day outing--but some creative packing and a couple of deck bags may solve that for an overnighter. My kayaking buddy is considerably taller than I am and says the leg/foot room is a bit short, so for a long-legged person, it might be too short. I have considerable experience with quality inflatables, and for the money, this one can't be beat. I've used inflatables that were 2x the price and half the boat! I highly recommend it!
I love it!!!
After taking a kayaking class so that I would be ready for Eppie's Great Race, I fell in love with kayaking. I have been searching for a kayak that would meet my needs, be affordable and that I could somehow carry on or in my Saturn Sport Coupe. I don't have a roof rack for my Saturn. I searched on this website and read many of the reviews. I saw a kayak, that was really a raft at a warehouse store across from REI, I compared the two and decided on this kayak. Why I never considered an inflatable long ago is beyond me. I got the yellow pump to go with it, it looks like a fat bike pump and works fine. When I got home I unpacked it and immediately felt overwhelmed and a little intimidated. That did not last long. After putting it together and inflating it in my living room, I took it out to the pool to see if it floats and to practice a wet exit. I got a paddle that comes apart in two pieces and fits great in the trunk of my car. In the pool it floated fine and the wet exit went fine, but I felt it unnecessary as it took some effort to flip it over, then it was all wet inside and I had to leave it out all night with the main inflatable ring pulled out to dry all the way. The next day I took it out on Lake Natoma in Sacramento. I timed myself and it took 7 minutes and 28 seconds to get it from the bag fully put together ready to go in the water and that was not rushing. It was easy to carry to the water. I launched it in a quiet recreation area with very calm and flat water. It tracked and cut through the water just fine. Once out on choppier water it didn't seem as fast, then again I had to get used to paddling again as I had only used very long touring kayaks. This boat is not near as fast as one of those as is it shorter and flat bottom. However this little guy meets all of my needs for now as I do not plan on going out on rip roaring rapids and doing eskimo rolls. I was out on the water for a long time, I went quite a distance it never lost air, I never once felt in danger of flipping over, I had a nice time. Once back at my car I took a dip to cool off while I let my kayak sit out a little in the sun to dry. I timed myself once again, and it took 7 minutes and 15 seconds to get it from fully inflated to folded and zipped in the bag. I'm very pleased with this purchase. It is so nice to be able to throw it in the trunk of my car and go out an hit the water. I got a plastic storage bin for the accessories to go with it; life vest, safety kit, pump, and a tarp. So I just have to throw three things in the trunk of my car the kayak, the bin of goodies and the oar. I am going to get a small ice chest and some bungee cords so I can put it on the stern since there are D rings I can use to tie it down with.
Excellent Purchase
I chose the Advanced Elements AdvancedFrame Sport Inflatable Kayak for these very important reasons: weight, transportation, and storage. This kayak is 26 lbs so I can manage and lift it easily by myself, which is very important to me. Being 53 years old and single, I don’t want to be limited by needing someone to help me when I want to go out on the water! I love the fact that I can pop my kayak bag into the back of my jeep and take off at a moments notice. Being easy to store was a huge concern to me because I do not have a garage on my property and my large shed is down a flight of stairs. So I can easily store my inflatable kayak in a closet. The last and most important reason is that this Kayak is VERY comfortable and trustworthy! I never feel unstable when I’m on the water and it has proven time and time again that the air I put in, STAYS in!
Best investment!!
I am a 72 year old gal and had debated between an inflatable kayak versus a hard shell. I decided on the inflatable because of the ease to inflate, store and travel. I couldn't be more pleased. I took it out for the first time last week and was thrilled. It is so light weight and versatile.
What a great kayak
This Advanced Elements kayak for me is exactly as advertised! It inflates quickly, tracks well in the water, and then so easy to deflate and put back in the carry bag. It also has plenty of bungees to attach your water bottle, etc, and space in the kayak for a dry bag. But my most favorite thing is that I can put it in my car trunk and head anywhere to paddle.
Just What I Was Looking For
After an unsuccessful experience trying to use a foldable, I tried an inflatable (thanks to the encouragement of the manager at my local REI). Took almost an hour the first time to unpack and figure out (fortunately not waterside with an audience). The second time it took about 20 minutes beside a lake. Now it takes under 10. Handles well (although I am going to buy the backbone). Needs foot rests. I've stuffed a $2 ball and some pieces of pool noodle in the bow and that works well. The seat is fine but it a little high and can interfere with a PFD. Pump (sold separately) is fine. I'm 5'2" and weigh about 100 lbs; I can put this kayak in the trunk, carry it to the water, inflate, and launch without help. Pure pleasure and so simple.
Great Fun!
Living in an apartment, I don't have storage space for a rigid kayak. This inflatable one lives up to the product claims and the other reviews I have read on the REI site. Inflation and deflation is very quick and simple which makes it really easy to pick up and go, without any hesitation. The kayak is quite wide and while I am only 5'6", I wish I had gotten 240cm paddles instead of 230cm. I purchased the rigid bar from the start based on other reviews. It's easy to insert and I agree with others that it should be included with kayak as standard equipment. The kayak is very stable and still quite manoverable. My husband accidentally beached on a mostly submerged rock in the lake and while there is a little scratch in the surface of the bottom of the kayak, it's otherwise fine and the does not appear damaged.
Nice little boat.
Easy to get ready to use, easy to pack, and great on flat water. Handled well and the dog liked it better than the hard shell.
