Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfection I live in Phoenix. I wear shorts year round. Very surprised how comfortable these are. They immediately became by go to shorts, and I quickly bought 2 more pair. The fabric is great in the heat, it also moves with you when working or playing hard. They dry quickly. I dont carry much and love the pockets. My typical day in these can find me playing basketball, jumping in the pool, then going to happy hour... I dont usually write reviews but I do read them when I buy something so I wanted to give back. You will not be disapointed. Also they are built super sturdy I can see theses lasting years so dont worry about the price tag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing shorts I had been looking online. Before paying the expensive price tag, I went to REI store and tried on. Right away I was sold. Never have I had a more comfortable pair of shorts (like gym shorts except breathe better and have lots of nice pockets, and fit well). I have ran, climbed, and hiked in these. They are well made and not dorky. They work for casual wear too around town. I got size 32 which are the same as all my pants and jeans etc. I am 6'1" and 175 lbs. There is another very similar Kuhl shorts called raptr but too short for my style. I like the 12" Renegade.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superior shorts for traveling & adventure I just got back from two weeks in Italy roaming around in a new set of these Renegdes. These shorts have been terrific. Two weeks without a wash: hiking, walking, driving, climbing...never less than comfortable, always convenient. I mean, I had complete freedom of motion, great airflow, zippered security for my Euros stash, good looks...even my old dude reading glasses never once fell out of the right hand pocket. This is a great product I'll keep until it's thoroughly worn out, and when that happens, I'll get another pair of Kuhl without even considering a return to my beloved BDU cutoff paradigm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Shorts I just took these shorts to the beach and Disneyland in SoCal. Of all my trips to Disneyland, I have never been so comfortable than I was on this trip. These shorts are the lightest and best wearing shorts I have owned. I really like the side pocket for phone/sunglasses. This came in real handy as you constantly going from sun to inside a ride. These shorts keep the odor out and dry very fast should you need to wear them multiple days with out being able to wash them. the only thing I don't like is the velcro back pocket. The shorts are so light that it is a little hard to open the pocket with one hand. I am going to buy another pair this weekend because they are a keeper!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great design overall, just okay quality. Have been wearing these for less than a year, on a handful of hikes but mostly just as casual shorts. The design is nice overall: plenty of useful pockets, the fabric is stretchy so you have full range of movement, they seem to dry quickly, no failed seams or anything, etc. Very nice. However, for shorts in this price range, from this reputable company, I am disappointed with some other aspects... Echoing another reviewer, the inside button (not the snap) popped off immediately after the first wash. Now, after not all that much use, the fabric is pilling pretty badly on the front of the shorts (upper thighs). Finally, the large "Kuhl" tag on the back waistband seems like it was mis-sewn, and extended above the waist band slightly, which was VERY irritating (felt like a little razor back there!) I had to get a seam ripper and tear it off. I guess if you can get these on sale, I'd still say they're worth it, but if you're paying full price, maybe look at a different brand of shorts.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice, but don't take them rafting... The first pair I bought had an issue with the waist snap coming undone at random and regularly. That's a problem. Returned them with no hassle (thanks, REI) with a second pair that worked normally. All was good until I took them rafting. One day sitting on a dry box and the rear started to pile noticeably. "Born in the mountains", but not made to raft the rivers. Not exactly what I would have expected from Kuhl. I'll be returning these.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from questionable sizing and poor quality All my shorts at home are a size 30" waist. I tried on the Kuhl shorts in 2 different colors both in a size 30 and they were too tight so I bought the 32. At home I put the 32's on and they are falling down. Too loose for my liking, have to wear a belt. After the first washing the button fell off and was in the bottom of the washing machine. These shorts are going back, very disappointed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works for me I own these in both colors, they fit the same. I use these for my daily commute to and from work. I like to ride my road bike from home to the station then to work and do it again at the end of the day. They are great, plenty of pockets, roomy (not baggy or saggy), belt loops and they have some stretch which for bike riders is a plus. My only complaint is the length, I would give these 5 stars but didn't really notice when I bought them until I did more research and found that Kuhl makes the RAPTR (10 inch) which is made from the same stretchy material but is NOT as long and sits right above my knee. Also, has room in the waist and butt area, so for those of us that have some extra in that area you'll be fine. So at least you have some choices.

The description indicates "relaxed fit" which to me always means "loose & baggy" which I do not like.  The picture, however, does not appear loose or baggy on the model. So how do these Renegade shorts with 12" inseam really fit?

Asked by: KA Moses
The Renegade Shorts are actually made with Kuhl's Athletik fit, which has a full cut around the waist, but narrows slightly towards the knee. They should not feel baggy.
