The fabric is heavy duty. Survived many treks with plenty of scrapes without any rips or tears. The many pockets with sturdy zippers make it easy to carry lots of items without fear of losing anything. The narrow, zipper free side pockets are great for holding longer items you want quick access to. I measured the inseam. It's 9.5 inches. They hit above the knee, just like in the pictures. They don't bind or constrict. Been through the wash at least a dozen times and they've held their shape, color, and sturdiness. My normal waist size is 32 and these shorts fit perfectly. They are pricey. But based on wear, so far, I expect to get many years out of them.
observation of this pair of shorts, size 38, khaki color - overall / outseam length of shorts is 20 inches, inseam is 9 1/2 inches not 10 inches as mentioned in the description. normal outseam for a 10 inch inseam shorts is usually between 21 to 22 inches. this shorts is shorter than what the inseam depicts it to be. description should include the outseam measurements just to ensure the proper sizing is known. color of shorts shown on website is lighter than the actual shorts. cloth is stretchy and feels durable. zipper on back pocket might scratch more delicate seating materials.
Great shorts. Liked the wide fitting waistband. The diagonal pocket is interesting, yet the internal cell phone mesh, like other Kuhl shorts I've had. seems to allow the cell phone to migrate to the inside of the thigh, and not so accesible. It would be nice if the cell phone zip pocket was still at the side, for secure unobstructed cell phone carry, and uninhibited pedaling on a bike. Also with these front zip pockets, I felt that reaching into the change pockets, there is the tendancy to catch my fingernails on the thick welt for the diagonal zipper as well, which is the reason I don't think I will be keeping the Outsider Shorts. Will be nice when they fix these issues, and could be my next biking shorts down the line if they do.
Love this short! Very durable construction, with slight elastic in waist... which makes the even more comfortable fit.
As a world traveler, having a comfortable, FUNCTIONAL pair of shorts is key! Just returning from visiting four countries, I needed a pair of shorts that are comfortable, have a functional waist band, and plenty of pockets including pockets you can secure valuables. For me, it's critical to always have my passport and any currency secure. These shorts have 3 pockets that can be secured with a zipper. Two of those pockets are on the front. The rear side open pockets are good for a standard water bottle. Highly recommend these shorts.
These have everything I look for in cargo shorts. Besides having lots of handy pockets, the zippered ones are protected from light rain yet easy to access. The waistband is elastic and very comfortable. As with all Kuhl products the manufacturing is the highest quality.
Super comfortable shorts. Not too tight but not really loose either. Stoked to wear them out hiking and around town.
These shorts have quickly become my go-to for hiking, travel, and pretending I know exactly where the trail map is leading. They’re lightweight, comfortable, and tough enough to handle brush, rocks, and the occasional unplanned “shortcut” that turns into a full adventure. The fit is great without being too baggy or too tight, which means I can move around easily without looking like I’m either headed to the gym or a middle school field trip. They’ve got that perfect balance of durability and comfort—rugged enough for the outdoors, but still comfortable enough to wear all day. Big fan of how breathable they feel, especially when the hike gets steep and my confidence starts dropping faster than my elevation gain. Great shorts for hiking, everyday wear, and carrying just enough gear to feel prepared but not like I’m training for Everest. Would definitely buy again.
My wife and I vacationed this year in Watamu, Kenya for 2 weeks. I wore nothing but my KUHL shorts, new and old. I love them, I swim in them, dance, party, dinner in them. Any documents or wallet, knife, and passport always felt secure in them. We rented a motorcycle, and yes we rode in KUHL shorts and flip flops or Hey Dudes 🤣 We even secured a property purchase in KUHL shorts. Thank You! Joe Willbee
These are durable and comfortable shorts suitable for hiking or leisure. I don’t like the somewhat rigid plastic inserts that cover the zippered openings for the two front diagonal cargo pockets and single rear pocket. The inserts are semirigid, serve no functional purpose, and just look and feel odd. Otherwise, would rate the shorts five stars.
