This thing is awesome! Very comfortable to sit in. Even better if you have something to put your feet on. A bit difficult to get up out of if you're a bit older and out of shape like me, but it's not too much of a deal breaker, especially for such a compact chair. It's a bit awkward unfolding. Make sure the support bars at the bottom line up with the grooves on the legs for better support. I took this with me on a long distance walking trip from Gardnerville, NV to Seattle, WA. It stored easily in/on my cart that I used to haul my gear. Great for when I needed to take an extended break on the side of the road. I used it everyday, sometimes multiple times a day. I'm a bigger guy, about 250lbs, and it lasted me for most of my trip. It did eventually break, though. No problem though. When I got to Portland I got a ride to the REI store up there and exchanged it with no fuss or hassles.
I bought this chair to sit in the desert for three days and count sheep in the Anza-Borrego Desert. I really don't think there could be a better chair for this activity. Although slightly heavy it was well worth hauling it up the canyon and boulders because it was so comfortable and cool. It was never above 110ËšF and the mesh on the back and bottom was great. I could feel the "cool" breeze coming through. I was sitting for ten hours a day and never thought, "oh this chair is so uncomfortable." Definitely worth the pennies. I just wish there was some type of extension or addition to support your head for when you get sleepy.....
I love this chair. (I have 2 of them.) I use it for outdoor concerts in the summer. It's MUCH lighter and less bulky to carry than other camp chairs that fold up into a sack. With the strap over your shoulder, you won't even notice the stowaway as you haul your stuff from your car to your spot. Once you're in the chair, it's quiet. There's no creaking or squeaking to disturb your neighbors. It's a very comfortable chair for a tall woman with a medium build. Yes, it's low, but the padded handles make it easy to get up out of it. If you're spry enough to sit on the floor and get up again, you'll have no trouble getting in and out of the stowaway chair.
I bought one of these a couple of years back. Great for the beach, and concerts, camping and canoe or kayak day trips, I think it will even be sweet for day hiking with a med to large day-pack. Like when I hike somewhere that I want to spend the day relaxing in a great out of the way place. I bought two of these for my son and his fiancé and just bought one for my wife for our San Diego P.B. trip. You can easily sling two of these chairs straps over one shoulder and have a free hand to carry a small ice chest and more. dew and water runs thru the center mesh. Why wouldn't any love these comfy little chairs... I purchased on line and in store.
Just got back from a kayak trip on the Current River in Missouri. This chair fit inside the rod pod of my Ocean Kayak Prowler easily. Because its a little heavy for it's size I wouldn't want to take it backpacking but it's solid build quality easily makes up for it. Very comfortable with it's reclined position. Thanks to it's mesh body it dries very quickly and doesn't block air when sitting in the sun so it stays cooler than your average fold up chair. To me this chair is quite worthy of it's premium price.
We love this chair and each have one. We especially like the fact that they fit easily in our kayaks in the hatch (we have the Wilderness Systems Ride 135). After my husband realized that it fit in our kayaks, he purchased one too! The mesh of the chair dries quickly, which is a plus for us since our butts are usually wet from using sit-on-top kayaks. It is a pricey chair but the compactness of it out ways the money issue. Our only gripe is that the pin used to attach the back support to the frame is too fragile and is starting to bend. We have a friend that has one of these chairs and this pin is also bending.
I can't count how many camp chairs we have purchased over the years. Originally got this chair because it was the most comfortable for my goofy back. Also the strong support arms allowed me to push my body up and out without any flex or movement. As soon as my wife and kids tried it out, they all wanted one of their own. We now have a pile of older chairs that no one will touch because everyone wants this one. Looks like our dividend will be spent on more of these chairs. I never thought I would ever spend more than ten bucks on a folding chair, until sitting in this one. So worth the price.
I bought this chair specifically for motorcycle camping, altho it will certainly see other uses: outdoor concerts, beach, etc. For MC camping , this chair is great. It's sturdy, packs up easily on the bike, dries quickly so you don't have to worry if it gets wet , and most important to me, sits low enough so that I can set it up inside my 2-man dome tent and read in the evening. That is really nice. If you buy one, note that the feet fold when you pack it. If you let someone borrow the chair, show them that the feet need to be unfolded before they sit down in it. Enjoy...
This chair is great! I like the mesh back. Comfortable and very cute with a dog sitting on it. Only used camping, but we want to take it to a beach too. REI, please make the chair in a mid-tone blue color!!!
This is a FANTASTIC chair!!! I was looking for a low-to-the-ground chair for a long time, and this one totally fits the bill. I love how the feet move about to accommodate uneven terrain. The recline is just right, and the padded arms are wonderful. Though a tad on the heavy side (definitely NOT for backpacking) the other features make up for this. I've at the beach, and at the river. It's super comfy to sit in and sew (my "job") while enjoying nature :)
