Please bring back the original low chair
This is a sad substitute for the original rei low chair. I've had 3 of the older version for seven years, they get used daily on the beach for at least 6 months out of the year. They live outdoors all summer, under an awning. The design and quality was so great, that besides cosmetic wear, they are still perfect. This sad substitute is made of a lighter weight fabric, that lacks the support and likely durability, yet the chair is heavier because it is larger. The lack of lumbar pillow gives your back a C curve and makes it less comfortable. The larger design makes it umcomfortable to carry and uses up more precious cargo space when packing for camping.0
Lasted 6 whole minutes - no value - not robust
Broke in the first 6 minutes, thinking I was getting a better made chair than what was carried at my local big box store. I was initially happy with the look of the construction, though it was made by REI this should last at least a couple years. I sat on the chair and it was just fine until I thought to get up, in which the entire bottom seam that holds the seat stay on the side split in one loud pop. I have never experienced such a catastrophic failure in any product. If you want this chair and plan to roll out and then stand up you are probably ok.
Update to the old chair is no where near as strong
I was so excited this type of chair was being sold again by REI. However, a few months past a year from purchase I can’t say that I’m excited at all. My old REI chairs I purchased in 2014 are still holding together. These chairs, the seems are coming undone. They appear to be more robust but I’ll be falling through the seat before you know it. I love that they increased the price and decreased the quality as well as changed their warranty.
Ripped seam
I did love the chair because of the size and portability along with the shape and cushion. I thought it would be durable but have just a handful of gentle uses it has started to rip a seam.
Prefect chair
Very comfortable and pretty good quality. I was able to sit comfortably for several hours. Sits kinda low to the ground I am 5’ 10” and the chair accommodated me surprisingly well. I recommend them and look to buy more in the future.
Disregard the complainers!
This is an amazing chair, everyone complaining about its quality and construction being horrible are wrong. They are most likely falling into it like it should take their enormous body weight plus two food drop impact and hold up… no camping chair will hold up and anything they are claiming from the past to have held up most likely dealt with a much lighter version of themselves. I love this chair, find it comfortable, and it is 100% well made—this is coming from a 6’1 fit but heavy man who respects his furniture and camping equipment by treating it not like a trampoline or bouldering mat to fall full force two feet into 🤷‍♂️
comfortable but didn’t last
Loved the chair. Not necessarily a camping chair but great for yard use. Very comfortable low and slouched seat. However evidently not as durable as I had hoped. The stitching on the left side is perhaps compromised by the large tag (not pictured as it “blew out”). It blew out the other day. I’ve had it for a couple months. Moderate use. Just normal sitting you know. I’m not a big guy, 160 maybe. But it didn’t last. It seems overbuilt everywhere except where it counts. The gray fabric holding the seat to the frame is poorly designed. Too complicated for what it needs to be. A double stitch could be enough of a solution, or more durable yarn. I’ve had better life out of lighter chairs with less rugged fabric by virtue of a simple single fold over stitch sort of design. Love REI but unfortunately this product, while comfortable, is not the chair.
Bulky
Seems like a nice chair but it's just too big to take anywhere. I wanted a low, portable chair to take to events in the park, the beach, or camping. The park might be okay because we don't need to carry much else with us, despite being rather unwieldy to carry. However, any activity where you have a decent amount of gear, it just takes up such an outrageous amount of space it becomes completely impractical. We have a beach wagon and there's suddenly no room for a cooler, or even for car camping there's not room. It's not just the length and width, but the curve of the bars makes it so it doesn't pack neatly with other items. Will probably just need to return it.
Comfy chair, great price!
The only reason I did not give this product 5 stars was because I wish it folded up a little smaller, it is not the easiest or most compact chair to travel with. Otherwise I LOVE this chair, it allows me to comfortably sit crossed legged since there are no arm rests, and I don't feel like I'm forced to sit up straight backed at a 90 degree angle- I truly can lounge and relax sitting in this. Nice and sturdy, I think this is great quality item that isn't too pricy, and overall I'm super happy to have this chair with me when I'm out camping or at the beach.
Ahem. This is *not* the same Camp Low Chair.
Like others, I was disappointed to find that REI did not, in fact, bring the original Camp Low Chair back but rather supersized it (read: not nearly as packable now) and got rid of the nice adjustable lumbar pad. They're fine chairs, I supposed, but the size and comfort of the original was why I ordered two of these, which I will now have to return. A little more honestly/transparency next time?
