Good Product, Good Company
These are really worth the $$$ for the great training benefit. Work great in winter for getting miles in and not losing everything built up over the summer months. Also, great for learning to spin correctly and converting to a clipless setup. What really impresses me about cyclops is the customer service. I bought my fluid a few years ago and had an issue with fluid leakage. This is a problem that they have supposedly fixed. They had me mail them my resistance drum(didn't have to show a receipt or anything). Within 10 days I recieved a brand new unit no questions asked. For the price it is good to know they will stand by the product.
No more excuses!
I first used the Fluid 2 when my personal trainer had me do some bike work after I developed shin splints. I didn't have much experience on a road bike, mostly mountain bikes, but mine was stolen. I recently purchased a road bike to get back in the swing of things and after using this trainer, I went out and picked it up myself. It was very easy to set up, only took about 10 min. It is easy to set the bike on and take it off when you need to get out side! The steady resistance is great with no adjustments needed. Just get on and ride! I would suggest getting the cycleops climbing block as well, gives you a great addition for workouts!
Realistic road feel without the potholes
I received my CycleOps Fluid 2 trainer as a gift. The Fluid 2 trainer is constructed of heavy-gauge tubular steel and is 90% assembled out of the box. The assembly instructions weren't very clear, however, since there are few bolts, attaching the resistance mechanism to the frame was fairly self-explanatory. Within 20 mins., half of which time was spent trying to decipher the instructions, my bike (a Trek Y26 mountain bike w/ city slicks) was standing upright in the trainer. The Fluid 2 feels stable and provides a realistic road-like feel. I especially like that my bike can be removed quickly and effortlessly from the trainer with the flip of the cam lever.
Great trainer!
Overall, the Cycleops Fluid2 is a very nice trainer. The resistance is well, fluid, and builds nicely. As stated in the listing, you adjust resistance by shifting gears which is pretty simple. If you want a low cadence burn, shift up to the big ring and smaller cogs and have at it. Similarly, if you want to burn a high cadence, shift the other way and spin till you drop. In either case, this is a very versitile unit. A word to the wise though, have something to watch or listen to because an hour on the trainer seems like 3 or 4. Be creative and use it as a tool to supplement your training routine.
Disappointed
The resistance is determined by the gear your bike is in. However, I've found that the resistance in any gear is much less than it feels when actually riding the bike outdoors. In other words, I can ride the bike using the CycleOps trainer in the highest gear (most resistance) and never even get winded. I just spent 40 minutes on it, trying every gear on my road bike, working my legs as fast as possible, and barely got a moderate rise out of my heart rate. If you're out of shape and 20 or 30 pounds overweight, this might be a good workout. Otherwise, no.
Not bad, but not as good as I expected
I originally planed to use the trainer when I don't have the time to get out and bike during the day. But after I bought it, I changed my mind. There were nothing wrong with the trainer at all. It was a solid build. What the problem was is the noise and shake it has. I live in an apartment(1st floor), it is ok when I was on the low gear, but once I kick it into the high gear, the noise gets exponentially louder. The grounds shakes as well. So I returned it because I don't want to make my neighbors angry. So I guess buy it if you have a house.
great product!
This is my first bike trainer and I was not expecting what I got, I have been biking for about 9 months and am an avid weight lifter/gym goer. I figured that it would be like all other workout equipment, loud and hard to put together. It took 5 minutes out of the box and once I got the feel for where it should be on my bike another two minutes or so to adjust the friction pad. LOVE IT. Also, this is on my mountain bike right now and even though standing up is slightly awkward it is still an easy ride, so this is not just for road bikes.
Cycle Ops
I got this to use in winter, bc of all the rain in the northwest. I only like to bike in late spring and summer outside. It's pretty easy to set it up. I even figured it out. :) Though, it takes up a lot of space when the bike is set up. It may be more beneficial to go to a spinning class, honestly. Hopefully, I'll use it this winter. It doesn't make too much noise, which is nice. I like the product and if I want to bike for more than an hour on it, it will be nice. (I did the rode from Seattle to Vancouver and Seattle to Portland.)
Solid trainer for winter fitness
I have been a serious rider and pro road racer for 30 years. I have used all types of indoor bike trainers, from rollers to wind trainers to mag and fluid trainers. I have used Weyless, TurboTrainer, Minoura, Tacx, and CycleOps brands. The CycleOps Fluid 2 is the best trainer I have owned. Very smooth, with excellent response to rider output level. It is also the easiest to set up - quick to unfold and I love the quick-release mechanism used to secure the rear wheel. All trainers produce some noise, but I have not found the CyleOps to be louder than others I've used. My downstairs neighbor says it sounds like I'm vacuuming when I use it, so there you go. I prefer to ride outdoors year-round, but when the temps drop below 20F, it's generally safer to ride indoors. The Fluid 2 has served me well as an alternative to road riding.
Great workout, easy to set up.
I watched a set up video on CycleOps website before I received the trainer so that I would know what I was in for. It wasn't as easy as in the video but was still fairly simple. Once set-up with a block under my front wheel I have had no problems. The trainer seems well constructed and durable,[...] I thought it was too easy to ride at first but that was definitely a wrong impression. Not having to make adjustments to resistance is a great feature.
