SYLAN Rocket

In a nutshell the SYLAN is a faster Norvan Long Distance (LD) 3 shoe. The SYLAN and LD are a similar shoes in many ways, yet different in key area that make the SYLAN a rocket of a trail running shoe. Allow me to explain and compare. My original SYLAN impression was mixed, a bit stiff, little narrower toe box and skeptical on new rocker sole. But after an initial run the SYLAN definitely settled into its grove in a positive way. SYLAN rocker sole is something to get use too that can feel forward rocking variance which is quite different to spring like effect from carbon insert. Outsole fully covers midsole and lug design with tread pattern is quite grippy that’s confidence inspiring. SYLAN midsole multi density foam is well applied, no need for rock plate with stack height and drop are about similar to LD. SYLAN upper is fully synthetic that’s reinforced in key areas with overlays, roomy toe box and protective toe guard similar to LD. SYLAN small heel collar surprisingly keeps out debris. Minimal yet sufficient padding in the heel counter, less than LD. As with the LD the SYLAN also has the shoelace garage. SYLAN durability is better than the LD 1, 2 and 3 or any other trail shoe I’ve used. East and west coast training with racing combined over 600 miles, upper has not rips or tears, outsole has plenty or lug live left. Just replaced insole insert. One negative: Lateral plane instability due to outsole undercut? Not sure why the undercut on the outsole was applied. Suspect for precision foot placement or too cut weight. But the consistent feedback I receive and have experienced is the side-to-side instability. Especially during a heal strike (avoidable or not) the SYLAN tends to feel unstable. I like the outsole undercut at the fore and mid foot, not so much in the heel. Overall, SYLAN is a great addition to the Arc’teryx mountain trail running product line that I tend to reach for more often than not. Also, US sizing is a bit off, recommend following EU model. Cheers- @almostalpine

Great shoe for trail / mountain running!

I love the look and styling of the Sylan Pro. The shoe works great on dirt track, trails and on grass. It's very comfortable and requires no break in. . The shoe has a nice snug fit and is good for those with narrower feet like me. I can't wait to take it on more rugged trails and in the mountains

Perfect shoe for long runs on the trails

My favorite trail shoe from Arc’teryx! Comfortable to wear durning long training sessions and races on the trails. The shoe is very durable and has good grip. I like that the toe bow is quite wide, which gives more room to spread the toes. The lacing is good and it’s perfect with the pockets where you can hide the laces, so you don’t have to worry about them fluttering around while you run!

New favourite all around mountain running shoe!

I have been loving the Sylan shoes for all types of terrain. I enjoy a shoe that feels light and durable. The shape of the Sylan feels as though it propels you forward while running, and has great grip in all terrain (tested in snow and on rocks, roots, mud, etc.) Would highly recommend to anyone looking for an all around mountain running shoe with good comfort over long distances.

The BEST Trail Runners

These are my favourite shoes for trail running! The cushion is firm yet supportive and the tread is aggressive enough to handle the trails without taking away from comfort. These shoes are wide, which is perfect for me. I did have to return my first pair and size down. Highly recommend!

Fast, grippy, perfect all terrain trail shoe

The Sylan is incredibly grippy on rock, roots and dusty or muddy trail. The lug adds decent stability in mud and was perfect for Alberta spring trails. I love the rocker as it intentionally pushes you forward and changes toe off contact gait for efficiency.

Good for hiking too

My size is 7.5, A little bit bigger like 8, but I still wear it with wool socks, it worked perfect during my 5days redwood national park trekking. After the journey, my feet no pain.

Great for stability in warm-weather trail runs!

I used to just wear road running shoes for trail runs, but these make such a difference. The height keeps you above tripping hazards like roots etc, while the outsole prevents slipping. I like these for warmer weather trail runs in the spring summer when I want something more breathable versus the Goretex version for colder/wetter weather. I normally purchase a size Women’s 8.5 Wide in road running shoes, and these fit great in a size 8.

My go-to trail runner!

Absolutely love the Sylans! Mega-grip is right - these feel so good on rock, especially when scrambling up steep slab. They feel great on tech, are light, and responsive. The thicker cushion provides ultra comfort, while the ride pushes you forward making you feel fast. They initially fit a little bigger than my usual sizing in Arc shoes, but I did not end up downsizing at all for personal preference.

Runs very well on technical trails

This is my favourite shoe for easy to slightly technical trails in pretty much every conditions. It runs well on the flat, but especially in the downhills the traction is great and the outer sole grips well on muddy and rocky trails. I had get used to the banana-shaped rocker construction of the shoe, but after a couple of runs I really feel a benefit of having the rocker guide the stride.
