I've been giving these shoes some time, but I just don't like them. The idea of the built-in gusset to keep rocks out is interesting but I find it hard to get my foot into the shoe and then it feels tight and hot once I'm hiking (yes, I've adjusted the laces). I find this toebox to be more narrow than other Arcteryx hiking shoes I've purchased which isn't helping a neuroma in my foot. While walking the forefoot area bends and hits my toes in all the wrong places. Also, not crazy about the color options on this style. This one is a fail.
This shoe is great for fast moving hiking on steep terrain. When you will be mostly hiking, but maybe jogging the flats and downs this is the shoe you want. It has good lugs for softer ground like mud, snow or loam, but still enough grip to handle rock. The GTX version won't stretch as well and will get a little hotter than the non-GTX version, so better suited for spring and fall conditions where your feet won't get as hot!
I don’t like the gusset at the top. I find I get more rocks in my shoe somehow than without it. I find the soles quite slippery, especially on wet or frosty wood. Purchased in October 2024 and the randing is separating from the fabric around the ball of the foot.
Hi Cath. Thanks for sharing your feedback on the Vertex Alpine GTX Shoe. We are sorry to hear that you are disappointed with the gusset and that you found the outsole to be slippery. In terms of the issue you are experiencing with the fabric, we recommend filling out a Product Service Request form and our team will be more than happy to look into it for your: https://arcteryx.com/ca/en/help/product-service/service-request
Look so smart and super comfy. Very stiff and stable but have a good cushion that is supportive. Have a really good squarish toe box thays quite wide so suits my feet perfectly. Really love them
